I''m on vacation the week after next and I''m hoping to find shoes for my wedding then. My dress is ivory lace with a champagne sash. I can''t do heels, so I''m looking for something with probably nothing higher than a 3/4"-1" heel. Strappy heels look terrible on me so those are out. I have such a horrible time finding formal shoes that fit right and are comfy, so ordering online isn''t something I''d love to do. With my luck, I''ll order 5 pairs and end up sending them all back for one reason or another. I''d rather go to a real store and try them on before purchasing something. What places should I try? DSW? Macy''s? Kohl''s? Even Payless? I could just try going to each one but I''d love a few recommendations first. Thanks!

Those Jcrew shoes are darling! I am a strictly flats girl, too!

I have big feet(11), so I understand how you''re feeling about ordering online. Its risky, but the worst that can happen is that you''re out some shipping. I am a huge DSW fan, so try that and if you truly can''t find anything, use online as a last resort.

I''d try Macy''s, Dillards, basically any department stores, DSW, etc. I''d honestly stay away from Payless because I''ve only ever bought one pair of shoes there that I could stand to wear for more than 5 minutes. No harm in looking though. Where are you going for vacation?

I say go to them all! You never know where you might find your dream shoes. I started at DSW, found a few contenders, then went to one of the bigger malls here and stopped in a Boston Store and then other various stores throughout the mall. I ended up buying the ones I found at Boston Store (which has different names depending where in the world you are) because I found the pair I had been drooling at online. But I do love DSW because you can just look and try on as many shoes as you want without having to ask for any of them! I never know what size to pick so I hate going to department stores where I have to hunt someone down and then ask for a size, only to get it wrong and find them again to try another size and so on...

Karasue, I really like those shoes! Thanks for the link.

Frekechild (can I ask what that means -- I''ve always wondered?), I''m a teacher and we have a vacation week coming up at the end of the month. I''m not going anywhere but I''m hoping to use the week to find shoes and start browsing around for welcome bag ideas.

Patyjewels, I''m actually not too far from Boston, so maybe I should check out that store. I know what you mean about shopping for shoes in a department store. It can be annoying. It''s funny, I''ve only bought a couple of pairs of shoes in Macy''s and I actually didn''t find that they were any better than shoes I''ve gotten elsewhere. They didn''t last any longer and I regretted spending more money. Oh well. Maybe Macy''s will be my last resort.

Bensbride, I think I will browse different sites and hopefully I''ll find something to keep in mnd if nothing else works.

Boston Store isn't anything special really, they just happened to have the shoes I wanted :)

Boston Store

was thinking, maybe even though you don't want to buy anything online, you could at least browse the department stores online to see if they have something you'd like to try on. Of course sometimes what's in the store isn't always online, but it might narrow down your search if you find a couple of places with shoes you'd like to try rather than randomly going around like I did :)

Zozo, if you order from Zappos, the shipping is overnight and free, as are the returns, plus, you can search by shoe width and heel height. So it might make sense, selection wise, to order about 15 pairs from them (costs you nothing!) adn try them all on. My guess is that no store is going to have the same selection.

Ditto the recommendation on Zappos. At least look there before you look in the stores so you know what is available. I think I''ve ordered about 10 pairs of shoes from them and kept 3 or 4. It''s so satisfying, I swear it''s like a hobby. When you want to return, you just go online and print out a prepaid return label, tape it up in the original box, and drop it off at the UPS store. Returns are accepted for 1 year, so you have plenty of time to decide.

Plus you get to try on in your own home instead of hobbling around in those stupid peds and bothering the clerks in the department stores. Another advantage is that you''d be able to actually see them next to your dress to see if they match.

I agree with the others who recommend Zappos. They are fabulous. Next day free shipping & returns. You can order a bunch to try on at home and send them back and have credit on your cc within just a couple days. There are now a lot of competitors to Zappos such as shoebuy.com, onlineshoes.com and piperlime.com. They all have free shipping but they are not as fast as Zappos.

What about picking up the pretty pink tones in your dress with shoes like these?

Thanks ladies! I''ve just spent the last hour looking online at Macy''s and a few other places. I''ve always kept Robbie''s shoes (Sketchers) in the back of my mind, so I might see what they have. I looked quickly and I think mom would kill me if I bought a pair for my wedding. No offense Robbie! I love them, personally!

Okay, you''ve convinced me to browse through Zappo''s. Basil brought up a good point. At least then I''ll be able to see how they look with my dress. I''m more concerned at this point with the color than the style. What color do you coordinate with ivory? Nothing really looked right but maybe my computer makes things look different than they really are. Oops, IslandDreams, I see you''ve suggested pink tones. I''m not sure if you''ve seen pics of my dress here or not but if so, the sash is champagne, not pink, as it might look here. I''ll have a look at what you suggested. Thanks!

I''ll be back.

IslandDreams, those are really cute! I''ll keep them in mind and continue looking.

Hi Zoe,
So weird that the Boston shoe store suggested doesn''t exist in Boston! But you are north of the city right? Stay warm, I wanted another snow delay, did you get one today? Thinking of the pink in your dress, these are on zappos like everyone suggested pink lace something feminine but comfy like sketchers perhaps since they are rocket dogs.

Me three! Why are there NEVER any cute shoes in our size? I''m resigned to a life of wearing boats on my feet.

Zoe, I had a cute pair of champagne ballet flats from Payless that I wore for the wedding, and then a pair of lacy ivory Skechers similar to Robbie''s for the sailing trip afterwards.

You''re in the Boston area too? Maybe I knew that. I''m about an hour north from the city. We had a snow day today. We had 2 late starts last week due to weather and road conditions and now today we had a cancellation. I think we''re up to four now. Oh yeah, we''ve also been dismissed early from school twice now this year. At this rate, we''ll be in school until July and I''ll miss my wedding day to finish out the year.

Oops, Swimmer, I forgot to reply to your suggestion. Those are really cute! There''s no actual pink in my dress though so I think they''d clash. If they came in ivory though, I''d get them in a second. I found a bunch of shoes on Zappos that I liked but they weren''t the right color. Either too white or too dark.

Frekechild (can I ask what that means -- I''ve always wondered?), I''m a teacher and we have a vacation week coming up at the end of the month. I''m not going anywhere but I''m hoping to use the week to find shoes and start browsing around for welcome bag ideas.
The story of FrekeChild:
When I was 14 I went into a big Catholic high school. I was about 5''1 (haven''t grown much, I''m 5''2 now). Anyway, I had a few classes with this big football guy who was about 6''2, he and I didn''t get along in the slightest. He made fun of me every single day until I kind of snapped and bit back. So he backed off of making blatant fun of me, but began calling me Freak child. Well about that same time, my parents bought our first computer and signed us up for AOL. I then decided to utilize my not very nice nickname and tried to have my screen name be "FreakChild" but it was taken. So I tried FreekChild, but I didn''t like the way it looked and went with FrekeChild instead. And for the past 10 years or so, that has been my main online persona. I''ve googled FrekeChild a few times, and all kinds of stupid stuff comes up that I wrote years ago. It''s kind of entertaining to go back and see the cr4p that comes up. Anyone remember Paradise Hotel? Ohhh...the embarrassment... (Is it bad that I want to watch Paradise Hotel 2?) I wonder if big football dude remembers that...
And so is the story of FrekeChild.

I think that if Zappos has the free shipping, you should seriously consider it, since there isn''t any harm or money loss in trying it out.

OY, with all the dress pics on here, I got confused...have you considered silver or gold? zappos
Well stay warm and enjoy Feb vacay, I''m hoping to find shoes at Jasmine Sola or something once the spring sandals come out. I figure metallic will be wearable again and not too hard to match?
