I am in love with cabs right now, and these pieces are just making me fall harder...
The sapphire from Lang Antiques is just so rich and velvety. I'm really glad it's not faceted, though it does appear to be of facet-grade.
Perhaps one the lappies can chime in here, but why would a cutter decide to cab a stone rather than facet it? It seems like a financial risk... But can produce beautiful results!
On that note, I am also REALLY into Colorluvr's cabbish tanzanite. Another question for the pros (but anyone really!): Is there an established way to cut from the start for the flash of facets but the smooth glow of cab?
Sleepy Spinel - I really love the look of that ring, but ESPECIALLY in the handshots. IMO, the other shots really don't do it justice... which really often happens, I think. Jewelery has to look alive! But anyway, I love the geometrical shape mixed with the organic-i-ness of the catseye. It kinda reminds of the movie/book series Dune. Like, future-mystic.
