#JOTW Show me your Luxury Watches!

Adding my sweet Rolex datejust. My birth year watch and a very special gift. Can't believe how comfy the band/links are.

I fell for this!

The AD has had to order in the interchangeable rubber and leather straps in a Small so I can’t share photographs of those yet but I’ll update when I get them.

I think it’s the only Holy Trinity to offer decent water resistance in a watch with a small enough case size for small wrists. It really annoyed me with the PP Nautilus and AP Royal Oak so I didn’t consider them after after initial research. I don’t expect decent water resistance in a dress watch or high complication watch but in a watch sold as a sports style watch it’s disappointing. I don’t want to take off an expensive watch and leave it in a locker or bag to take an unplanned shower or swim.

The blue dial is mesmerising! I’m very happy with it.

I’ve purchased three watches in just over a year having not bought one previously for about 20 years so I’m a bit worried about myself and I need to stop now as I consider myself a wearer not a collector…

This is one of my favorite threads for all the beautiful eye candy! Adding my new watch, a Rolex oyster perpetual 31 with a pink dial. I got a surprise call yesterday, after stopping by my local AD for the first time in December to let him know the watch I would like if he got one in stock. I wasn’t expecting to hear back so soon - or ever.

This is so gorgeous!

Tell me: is this something one can walk in and buy/order -- or do you have to sleep with a bunch of people and buy some crummy ones for a few years and then maybe an AD will throw you a bone? (Looking at you, Rolex, Patek, and VCA. :roll2:)

Hi, sorry it’s taken me ages to reply, I missed this.

I would never buy something I didn’t want in order to get something I did want. I just couldn’t do it.

I waited perhaps three months for this having been told it could be up to two year’s wait. I have no previous purchase history with VC. I did online research triggered by I can’t remember what, not just into this watch but other high end sports type watches but this is the only one I viewed in person having eliminated the others by specification. I made contact and expressed interest by emailing the European Concierge and then made an appointment at the London Bond Street store just to see if the size worked for me and if I really wanted it. They did not have one available to purchase but had a wrapped one waiting for collection that I could see. I decided I did like it but needed to buy it from the EU country I now live in so confirmed with the EU Concierge which Boutique I wanted to buy from and around 3 months later I got an email to say it was available and had been sent to the Boutique for me. I didn’t pay a deposit but from what I read online it seems that paying a deposit is commonplace. They offered to deliver the watch to my house, presumably after cleared payment, which surprised me, but I wanted to go to the boutique to collect for the adjustments and for a full introduction to the watch. I also like to build a relationship with people.

It was a very painless process and I wasn’t at all pressing, I stated honestly that I really liked the watch, thought it beautiful and wanted it but that I was quite happy to wait as I do have another perfectly serviceable sports watch along with my dress watches.

I think you would be very lucky to walk in cold and walk out with one but it might happen if a customer has changed their mind or chosen another watch from a selection the AD has secured for them to choose between.

I don’t get the impression that VC tries to complicate the purchase process or cloak it in mystique. They produce relatively small numbers of each model of watch, each of which is high value, the Overseas are particularly popular, so you wouldn’t expect each boutique to hold a lot of stock and they don’t need to. There is no Arthurian trial of merit like Hermes seems to putting people through these days. Perhaps if your first question related to resale values you might find yourself waiting indefinitely but I’ve no evidence for that.

I’m very happy with my experience of VC. I’m not a member of the super-rich, an influencer, a VIP or a beauty; just a paying customer whom they treated as you would hope customers would be treated; with warmth, courtesy and attention.

This is a great overview -- thank you! And this seems like how a scarce commodity should be handled -- you may have to wait but we will treat you professionally!

Love this !
I must ask - do you have a favorite watch?
Spam us with more pics please

OMG - thanks, but I've already shown so many of my watches here, I don't think there's much left. Do I have a favorite watch? Not really, my mood changes and so does my choice of watch. Worn more often than others is perhaps one of my DayDates!
