Show me your Pearls!

Pardon my ignorance and the threadjack, but what is a torsade?

Thanks Kelli! I loved making it. I had just learned to knot pearls and wanted to practice. This is why I used inexpensive materials so that if I got frustrated or did not like my work, I would not be out anything. Now that I know what I''m doing, I''m going to start buying quality pearls and collecting them until I have enough to make a gem quality strand.

I''m sure you have seen a torsade Kelli, but like me, did not know what it was called. The torsade is a single strand of pearls that is twisted relatively tightly to be a thicker, multiple, twisted rope. I quadruple my strand in my hands. Honey228 showed us a link to a "pearl shortener" similar to what I use. After I quadruple my strand, I put one end on the shortener. Then I hold one end tightly while I twist the other hand until I have the strand as snug as I like it. I put it behind my neck so the ends are in front of me (I need to see what I''m doing) and hook the second end of the strand into the shortener and fasten it. I do have one fairly fancy shortener that I use sometimes and wear it so that the shortener is like an ornament on the side...

Honey, thank you for the link. I''m going to look into ordering several to give to my sisters with the ropes I am making for them for birthdays.

Szh, now you know my trick! I use the shortener (clasp) to keep it all together. I do tend to twist them a time or two extra to be sure they stay tightly twisted. I am not afraid to do this with this cheaper rope but I will be watching it closely to see if there is any damage to the pearls before I twist it this tightly on my better strands.

Catmom, I love this tourmaline strand! It takes the single pearl pendant and gives it a unique, pretty twist. Do you have any photos of you wearing it? I would love to see it on you. I''ll bet it is beautiful!

Thanks jmtomaui. I love the strand that you made. It's beautiful!! Here is a pic of me wearing the tourmaline and pearl strand.

ETA: The tourmalines look dark in this picture but they are much more like the color in the other picture.

vintage white strand from ebay. These need to be worn so they warm/luster up a bit.
I hate to be dumb, but...is this true?? I bought a pearl strand (necklace and bracelet set) from ebay to wear on my wedding day. I have no idea if they are real or not - cheap or otherwise. But they don''t exactly ''luster.'' Would wearing them more bring this out?? I def. want to do so if that''s the case...before my big day!! :)

I will post photos and a description of them in a sec. :) Nothing to compare to what YOU GUYS have, though...GORGEOUS
Yes, you can also leave them on the bathroom counter when you shower.

I''ve just received my 100 inch strand of freshwater pearls from TPO and they are gorgeous! I''m delighted with them especially when I got them for a steal.

Here they are...a bad shot taken in the bathroom and it looks like I have no chin :P
Is that a diamonds by the yard necklace I see peeking out from under your pearls?

Wow! Brightlight you have VERY sharp eyes. Yes, it''s a DBTY-like necklace that my jeweller made for me. I was too lazy to take it off while trying on my pearls.

I love the look of "floating" necklaces mixed with pearl strands!

I was right Catmom! It is as pretty on as I thought it would be! I really like the look...

Thank you for the very kind words Skippy. I really enjoyed making it.

Brightlight, I had not heard the shower hint before! It makes good sense and will have to do that more often... And you do have sharp eyes - I had to go back and look at DD''s photo and did see the necklace this time.

DiaDiva, again, that is a beautiful rope and looks terrific on you! I too like the look of diamonds and pearls together and you wear them both with a simplistic elegance that is beautiful.

Thanks Kellli, Skippy and jmtomaui!

HI:

Thank you iMssy! Do you wear your peals all year long, or are they seasonal for you? Truthfully, I wear mine more Spring/summer--perhaps as I am in lighter colors more often..

cheers--Sharon

I definately wear this long necklace (can make bracelet out of it also) almost exclusively in spring/summer

So pretty Canuk-gal!

Canuk-gal, your earrings are beautiful but this coin necklace is my favorite! I love the lightness so I can see why you wear it so much in the Spring and Summer.

sharon -

can we pls have some shots of the coin pearl necklace/bracelet on you? i cant quite work out how it hangs and it looks gorgeous....

Whitby:

Hope you enjoyed your BD. This is a terrible picture of this piece--but the only one I have. The large heavier gold oval pieces are spring loaded to open/close, allowing for detachment of a smaller piece for your wrist. Altho I bought the necklace without much convincing
9.gif
, the bracelet feature is definately addeed value--it is often the only jewellery I take when travelling as I can wear the necklace long, as a lariat style, shorter with bracelet, or trippled three times around my wrist as a bracelet or doubled around my neck as a choker. Thanks for asking!

Thanks jmaui, Skippy, szh07, for the lovely compliments

Sharon, this is such a cool necklace. Just beautiful!

I recently bought a strand of fun pearls off a recommended seller from ebay.

It''s exactly as described...and is an interesting shade of gold. According to the seller it''s all natural.

Color - natural gold, a light pink, with gold rainbow orient, untreated! (see pictures)

Shape - Very round/round to the eye/near round

Diameter - 6.0~7.0 mm

Here''s a neck shot.

Oops.....sorry it turned out so huge and such a close-up of my neck. Yewl.

Here''s a smaller one.
