LJL- that's a beauty!

Heliotrope- I love the mixed metal look on those rings! The 3 stone one looks like it would look really pretty on!

I've got a few to add to this thread soon when I have time for some photos. :)

I bought my setting from IDJ in NYC and even tho it is not sold as a reproduction, it has that type of feel to it... so I hope you don't mind my ring joining your thread!
My OEC is 1.68 ct, Q/R, VS2 clarity. Side diamonds - .51ctw FG colour SI1 clarity. set in 18k WG size 8.

Oh my.

Oh.

My.

This was my mother's engagement ring, which my dad gave to her ~1960. It's funny because the main diamond is an old miner's cut, but the rest of the ring seems fairly typical of the late 50's/early 60's. I have heard that the old miner's cut went out of style around the turn of the century- I wonder if my dad got the stone from an estate sale or something and had it placed in a new setting?

That's a truly lovely classic vintage setting j, though the diamond doesn't look to me to be an old miners cut (there doesn't appear to be a culet, and the faceting looks a lot more like an early modern stone). Did a jeweler tell you that? I think a lot of jewelers either don't understand what an old miners cut actually is (or use the term to make sales because they are popular right now). It's a beautiful piece regardless!

Oh it's beautiful, I love the classic elegant setting! I agree with bastecat though, it looks like a modern round brilliant to me. It's certainly a really gorgeous piece!

ETA: Here's an example of an old mine cut:

I am definitely finding my style, because there is not one ring in this thread that I don't really, really love. In other words, more directly stated, I love antique and vintage rings :cheeky:

No kidding. And I keep coming back here to drool at the step cut and asccher rings now. :lickout:

I've been meaning t add on here as well. Here's my 1.13 M OEC in a reproduction setting from Leigh J Nacht with vintage style milgrain and floral bands:

Antique Edwardian style garnet ring and vintage silver stacker. Hubby gave it to me as a Christmas surprise. :) It may be a reproduction, I'm not really sure, but it was super sweet of him to remember I like this style when I had seen stuff like this so that's what counts for me!

Thank you Circe! It's not an expensive ring or anything- but I love the setting a lot and I like to wear the stack as a RH color stack.

And here is the very pretty antique ruby and rose gold ring I got as a surprise from Hubby via you on LT. I am pretty sure that is where I saw that one! :)

With any luck, here is my restored Edwardian white-gold, three-stone, north/south ring, with three G/SI diamonds totaling about 1.25 carats. The restorer replaced the thin and worn shank and copied as well as he could the remaining setting details from the center stone's surround. Without being asked, he added rhodium plating; do you think this adds or subtracts from the vintage appearance? img_3514.jpg

P.S., the ring was originally my grandmother's and she and my mother wore it constantly.
