LOL, well, I actually think the prices on chrysos are still decent, you just need to know where to look, and that's all I'm saying. ;)

I saw a really neat tycoon type cut rectangular 1.7ct stone for like 70 bucks.

I have paid more but when I do its for I think a bit more unique colors. Something a bit outside the norm

I agree, but even so, TL, you gotta admit that the days of $29 ebay neon chrysoberyl are largely over, you know?

What is this? I've not heard of it and would love to see a photo of one?

It depends on what you consider neon. There are some great buys of chrysoberyl, and some have really nice color.

Im sure there's another name for it in the CS I was just thinking of that branded diamond cut of that name.

LT what size is by our princess chryso?

Gotcha. I'm not greatly knowledgable about cut names, just know what I like when I see it

Perhaps that would be called a radiant scissorcut?

Probably.

Sorry, I should put a disclaimer on the end of each post I write to say I'm a newbie with no knowledge and a new love of coloured gems! You'll have to forgive me for my confusing descriptions etc. I'll do my best to learn the correct terms so I can join in a bit more haha.

Yes niel is right :-)

Its OK. I'm newbie in this world too. I knew what you were going for.

I took this pic yesterday. I love the setting, but I was thinking of flanking it with two smaller cushions, one a lilac spinel, and the other a mint tourmaline. This is a 9x7 cushion, 3.01 carats. The brown color in the stone is the reflection off my peachy shirt.

That is fabulous, TL!

Thank you Euphony. :))

Is that set in green gold, TL? Its so pretty.

TL, I'm not a yellow gold person, but I love yellow gold halos, and yours is no exception. Please don't change it!

Thank you MInous, Pregcurious.

Minous,
It's in 14K, with white gold shank with a yellow gold halo. I had it customized for the stone.

It's beautiful, TL. I'd hate to see it changed but I know we get bored with a setting sometimes. Your 3-stone idea sounds luscious & I'm sure we can look forward to something else delicious in that setting, right? Or, you can give it to a VERY worthy charity.....me! :appl:

Thank you JF,
I am surprised at all the positive responses to this ring, after all, there is a small window in the stone, and it's another boring halo  . Maybe I'll just keep it in there. ;)

Joining the fan club, TL. Your ring was one of the reasons I decided to keep my Richard Homer chrysoberyl. The color of your stone with the mixed metals and the diamonds is just so very lovely.

If you ever get rid of that cats eye I call dibs! Lol

Thank you Lula, very flattered.

LOL, Niel! Thank you! The cat's eye is a keeper, though!
I'm looking forward to seeing your new chrysoberyl ring. Isn't Peter T. a great guy to work with?
Thanks for starting this thread. It's been fun to see all the different colors of chrysos in one place.

Thanks, Niel, Chrono, Woofmama, NKOTB, and Minous -- I am so happy with the cat's eye. The color is identical to my Homer chrysoberyl, but they are so different in "mood" if that makes sense. The cat's eye is subtle and mysterious. The Homer Portuguese-cut is bright and brilliant and flashy.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to set the Homer stone in a bezeled three stone, mixed metals, with diamond sidetones. The hold up is that I can't decide whether to use old cuts (OECs) for sidetones or round brilliants. I wish I could find Portuguese-cut diamonds -- now that would be one firecracker of a ring, LOL.

I will probably set the cat's eye first. It was a splurge, and I bought it to celebrate (finally) finishing my Ph.D. and a big move for a new job. I'd like to set it in a right-hand ring. I like Art Deco design, and I like the way the cat's eye cabochon cut looks with step cuts, strangely enough. Here are some photos from a completed ebay listing that is close to what I want (but I am open to suggestions! This stone is only 6mm, so I don't want to overwhelm it :)
I'll start a new thread...

Thanks woofmama, that makes me happy! I've had it about 3 years now and I still am over the moon when I look at it!

I assume thats a concave cut? if so, id LOVE to see it with these. They are so perfectly matched they even have the same undertone.

Niel, you have a real talent for searching the diamond sites, and a great eye! Those stones are great. My Richard Homer chrysoberyl is actually Portuguese cut, not concave cut. Richard does occasionally cut traditionally faceted stones or other specialty cuts. Portuguese-cut stones are very brilliant, with many facets. So the criss-cuts you found could work beautifully with my Homer chrysoberyl. You can see the stone in my early post; it was originally set in the halo with lavender sapphires. The setting was beautiful, but was way too fussy for me. So I had the chrysoberyl removed and sold the setting. I considered selling the chrysoberyl, too, but I just couldn't bring myself to part with it. The stone takes my breath away when I look at it. It is just so bright an alive. It's been loose for several years, and I keep it in its box on my desk. I like looking at it, but it's time for it to find a home. It's 6.5 millimeters, so sidetones in the .40 range would be lovely for a three-stone

Thanks, preg. I love the way the setting showcases a cabochon stone. So streamlined and elegant!

Was your setting made by an Etsy vendor, Packrat? I can't find your original thread! I've always admired your chryso ring.
