Show us your food!

I was just about to tag you???!!! Do you have a lettuce problem?

Mind you I think people are just silly here! The trendies are shopping at their trendy supermarkets and are paying $10 for a lettuce. My asian grocer sells HUGE ones for $3.50!

I can understand probably the wholesale price has gone up and why the restaurants are struggling but people should know better than to shop at a swanky grocer or expensive supermarket!

Coles and Woolies are great for seasonal things (sooooo many cheap grapes but I hate grapes!!!!) but horribly pricey for things that are out of season or short!

Wow you have an orange shortage! Cheap here right now! $1.65 a kilo if you buy a 3kilo bag!
So much is weather dependant
A lot was made in the media about Australian watermellon at $99 each somewhere in Auckland but that harvest was effected by the same
weather that took out all your lettuce

Here the local navel oranges have finished before the valence (not spelt right) have quite ripened
Your ones are arriving mid week to tide us over
But pipless manderines are $3.99 kg so i just brought those

I got a really big juicy crunchy iceberg for about $3.99 last week - cheaper than the summer (which was too dry evidently) - i made a shrimp salad last night for tea
Tomatoes are up but its winter people ! I read once winter it the only time the growers actually make money on tomatoes

I only like grapes with no seeds
we have a lovelly sweet vine in our garden that rippens early Autumn but its full of pips
kiwufruit harvest in full swing so just got cheap at countdown (wollies)

Put chicken and veg in the slow cooker tonight
only to discover ive had it set to warm for 2.5 hours (i have done this the last 3 times:wall:)
Ive even written on the slow cooker L H & W in big black letters
Usually the house would smell of chicken by now ....

So we had Hansills Thai green curry packet soup with a tin of chop chop chicken from out of the apocalypse/ covid supplies because 6.30 pm and no tea is an emergency :lol-2:
I like to try everything in there
As dont want to be experimenting with a potentiality yucky meal for our last one :lol-2:

So cats will enjoy some chicken at bed time
it makes them sleep through the night rather than playing and making noise at 2am

I had a spell where I just stopped cooking. Just not interested after 2.5+ years of working from home and planning 3 meals a day. However I recently Taiwanese home cooking page and got inspired to
Cook again. These are some meals I made the last couple of weeks:

I made low carb lasagne last night, using these egg wraps from Trader Joe’s instead of pasta sheets. Worked really well, texture and taste etc was just like regular lasagna! Here it is in all its reheated glory for today’s lunch!

I share way too many “eat at my desk” pics!1362A221-49B1-4ACC-B446-104AFD3D8248.jpeg

I honestly like making food at home, even if it is semi-home cooked. I made pan-fried Trader Joe’s gyoza for a block party last Monday (Labor
Day) then C13A1D54-BE1C-46EF-B54D-493FC6E99174.jpeg

During the week, I work from home,
so I make what I like to eat for lunch…this is a brunch or cauliflower thins, egg salad and lightly dressed arugula.

Last is Chilaquiles with rice and beans…all homemade. My kids love Mexican food, and my fusion family (Mexican brother-in-law) taught me how to make the best rice and
Beans!

I've had two great meals in the past week! On Tuesday night my friends made sun dried tomato ravioli and a plum buckle for dessert.

And on Wednesday night we had a department dinner at Oriole in Chicago. They used such interesting ingredients, including a lot of little flowers, which I just love!

I have no idea why my photos are different sizes in different posts... sorry!

I've had two great meals in the past week! On Tuesday night my friends made sun dried tomato ravioli and a plum buckle for dessert.

Idk wtf is a buckle but I love the rhyming possibilities. Jk it looks amazing and kind of like a cobbler. I’d inhale it

According to some random food site...

"It's called a cobbler because its top crust is not smooth like a pie crust but rather “cobbled” and coarse. It's usually dropped or spooned over the fruit, then baked. Buckle: A buckle consists of fruit and cake baked together, with a streusel topping."

It was :lickout: !

But now I feel cheated because I didn't get any "streusel topping" (whatever the he!! that is -- this whole food thing with the fancy words is quite confusing to me!).

We went out for Japanese food last night.
DH had caterpillar roll and spider roll.
I had salmon teriyaki teishoku

I feel like it has been fall weather the past week, and Costco is still not selling soup! So I made my own. A hearty creamy chicken mushroom soup. Delish! I made a huge pot which should last me about 3 days…..breakfast, lunch and dinner. I love soup!565FBDC9-22B1-444D-BBAA-D032FC42C4EE.jpeg
