when i first went looking for dresses, i wanted something with sleeves. of course the dress i fell in love with was strapless. i''m still thinking that i''d like a little something to cover my shoulders just for travelling and some outdoor pictures since the weather in ohio is pretty unpredictable in early october.

option #one
after some looking on etsy, i found =tags&includes[]=title:2o8h065d]this.
i would get it in a champagne color, and snap it into my dress instead of the big bow.

option #two.
this little bolero. i''d get it in either a champagne/taupe color or go a little nuts and get it in orange or green to tie in with my wedding colors.

i have a fingertip length veil i plan on wearing as long as possible.

is this a dumb idea?

here is my dress:

I prefer option 1.

my personal taste would be option 2 in ivory or white... but I can get REALLY over the top, the 1 is really nice too.

I like them both, although #1 might not really provide much coverage/warmth if that''s what you''re going for. #2 is definitely a bit more fashion-forward, but if that''s your style, I say go for it! I don''t think you can go wrong with either one, it''s just a matter of taste and how you want your personal style to shine through in your pictures.

I could be wrong, but I feel inclined to say that the second shrug would look better with the dress. That said, I think they are both beautiful.

EDIT: I just reread your post - If you aren't doing the bow, I'd say #1

#2.

#1 would look OK, #2 would knock your look out of the ballpark.

I think number 1 would look better with the dress, but honestly don''t think either are going to do anything at all for warmth, considering the material of 1 and the fact that 2 doesn''t actually cover any of your arms at all.

Ditto. You need a little satin shrug with sleeves.

Possibly not at all what you're looking for, but fun and would at least give you some warmth from the cool weather! (Saw some FABULOUS feather boleros/wraps, but sadly they wouldn't make sense if you need possible rain protection.)

Or a slightly different style in a ton of colours: shrugs

Another ditto from me.

What about something like this? You could customise it with some pretty champagne ribbon around the edge, or with a champagne-coloured silk flower corsage...?

ETA: Gwen I love that faux fur wrap! So glam!

i like them both! LOVE the style of the second one, but i wonder if it would be too much with the veil? i agree with gwen-neither will keep you that warm! as far as prettiness is concerned, you could not go wrong with either

hopefully the link works

I bought this from etsy and I was blown away. It is SO perfect in person. It is small--smaller than it looks in the photo, so there is not all of this extra material. It is very soft and gauzy and it is pretty sheer. It really is amazing.

you cant tell from the pictures, but the border is thicker and then the wrap is thinner with a thicker design felted in. it is amazing!

this may make no sense.
i know i mentioned the weather being one factor, but i think i want coverage on my shoulders just because given the fall season, bare shoulders in an wedding gown just might look silly. once we are indoors, i''ll be fine, and i''m sure even outdoors ill be on such a high that i won''t feel any chill that might be in the air. it''s moreso that i don''t want to appear "naked" on top when travelling. i think i just love jackets and own a million, so i want a wedding "jacket."

i LOVE that fur wrap- if it were winter, i would be all over it.

that''s gorgeous! it looks so warm! i know you said it isn''t so big, but how do you wear it? haha- i''m a doofus.

Just my 2 cents but...

if you aren''t really concerned about being cold, then i say just stick with your dress and don''t cover it up! i don''t think it''ll look strange to have a strapless dress in October at all. You can always pull your veil over your shoulders too.

thanks everyone! i''m not sure what i''m going to go with yet, but i''ve decided i want to get SOMETHING. i really like the statement of the 2nd one, so i might order it an dsee what happens.

i thought about it and if the tulle isn''t the same material as my veil, i think it might make the veil look dingy since its sort of old and yellowed (it was from my mom''s veil''s material).

In that case, I say #2 for sure. I think it''ll go really well with your dress, and it would make a wonderful wedding jacket keep-sake (that can be used again!).

I like the second one...would be fun for pictures. Looks like the seams need to be ironed out a little better
though.

I like the 2nd one...and the fake fur wrap! I love how those fur wraps look for colder weather weddings. But, maybe not too cold yet in October? I could see it being more Dec/Jan in the snow!

BTW - is there some color in the detailing of your dress? I can''t really tell...is it silver? I would match the bolero to that detail.

I like the idea of the second one but I have to be honest and the construction doesn''t look too good. I''m also not a fan of the no back bolero. There are other etsy options but they are a little more expensive.

To help with the veil question...I had a bolero made to match my dress and it''s way too much to wear with the veil. However, I am taking my veil off after coctail hour to wear the bolero/jacket. I hope that helps. Let me know if you want a picture will all the accessories...it may help you visualize.

My guess would be that the construction is easier as well as it makes it easy to fit. At least that is what I think. I could be wrong but it eliminates the need to size.

i like option #2 best w/your dress!

hi charbie

i vote for #2 but i would like to see a photo of your veil to see if they go well together

another thing, will you be wearing the bolero or wrap for the ceremony as well? i know you aren''t supposed to have bare shoulders for church ceremonies, so i was just curious

i''m gonna go against the grain here. after talking with my mom, i think i''m trying to do too much with the dress. the veil, the details, the jewelry, the shoes. i think throwing something else into it is going to just junk things up. so i''m gonna go with the simple wrap and see what happens...i still love the other shrug. im gonna talk my sister into having us wear those at her wedding next year :)

i bought some pretty organza"ish" fabric today, and am going to try to DIY. i''m putting snaps into it so i can just snap it right out. i get my dress back in 2 weeks (i''ve been dying for the past 3 months without it...!) after my final fitting, so i''ll see if it works. i''ll keep you all posted!!
