We really want to get one of these in lieu of a traditional guest book because, well, they are just darling, and also we feel we''ll actually look at it more if it''s not in some book somewhere. But then I got to thinking that plates break whereas a book does not.........so maybe a framed mat is a better compromise?

Which format did you choose for your guest "book"? And to those that chose a plate style, do you intend to use it or just display it?

We did the framed matte from pottery barn and it is hung up in our hallway. I think it is a great conversation piece and it is nice to see everyone''s comments.

My sister got married last summer and she did something I hadn''t heard of before but I thought it was great. I may even do the same. They had a basket of post cards on display and guests chose a card and then wrote a lovely message on it. My sister''s friend (or was it my mom? I can''t remember) collected all the post cards after the wedding and mailed them out, one by one, each week after they got back from the wedding (they had taken their honeymoon before the wedding). Each post card was already stamped and included my sister''s address. I''m not sure if they''re planning on framing some of the cards or putting them in photo album.

we had a large glass vase, sterling silver pens & wish cards (pre-cut cards from paper source). we also had a poem telling guests to fill a card with advice & well wishes. their cards were then placed in the large vase. it really encouraged people to fill out more than their name. we even got cute little drawings

pics are in my pro pic thread.

I''m thinking about doing a signature mat, with an engagement photo in the center. Once we''ll have our pro wedding pics we''ll switch it, and have it framed!

Ours still has our engagement picture. Once I got my pro pics printed I kind of decided to leave it as is (since we have a bunch of wedding pics framed).

For those that used a signature matte, any recommendations? I don''t want to get "stuck" with one that doesn''t look nice or is of poor quality etc. Or all they all the same?

Jcrow~ That sounds really pretty :) However, I wasn''t able to find pics in your Pro thread. Do you just sort of display the vase now in your home or did you do something else with it?

I did hop on over to PaperSource to check out "wish cards" but I have a feeling I took that too literally as nothing comes up under that name. Did you just use one of thier flat cards of a certain size and buy a silver pen that''d write on it?

Thank you for sharing your beautiful wedding ideas. You have, quite clearly, been a wedding-inspiration to many of us

yes, i bought flat cards from paper-source. the luxe ones. any regular pen will write on them, but i got sterling silver (black ink writing) pens from whiteaisle.com

i think it was the 4 Bar Flat Card.

Thank you, Jcrow!! What a nice alternative :) I love the idea of offering the space to guests to write longer comments...it makes it more personal. I just wish there was a way I''d be able to display or otherwise have around those wonderful words. Hmmm.....

That led me to google again and I did another search for alternatives and found this.......

This would be another great idea as it of course wouldn''t break like a porcelain platter would and it can be used quite nicely at holidays etc. While I LOVE Jcrow''s idea........I think I''m going to have to decide between the pewter tray or a framed matte piece.

Is it overkill to have both? One wishing well type thing for the comments and then also one thing, like a tray or platter for signing?

ooppps, forgot the attachement.......

uh......that time it was my computer......really!!

i''ve seen brides put the cards in an book, similar to a guest book after the wedding. just a thought.

So Happy, I''ve been thinking about doing a mat or plate too. The traditional guest book just doesn''t feel like me, plus, it would just sit on a shelf somewhere. I like your platter idea but would you display it somewhere? Mine would probably sit in a drawer if it''s anything other than something that can hang on the wall. I know that lots of places sell the mats, Michael''s does and I get various catalogs that sell them. I''d love to hear if one is better than another too.

I don''t think it''s overkill to have both the mat and the cards. One thing I loved from a wedding was a book and someone took a polaroid of that person/couple when entering, then they attached it to a page in the book and signed and/or wrote comments underneath. Although that too would sit on a shelf, I really like that idea b/c it incorporates someone signing but also allows for comments.

So Happy, mine was from pottery barn. It is a bit more expensive but HUGE and a great frame. Really nice quality. I can post a picture if you are interested.

Dixie~ You and I are pretty much always on the same page :) I want one book like the one pictured below to capture wedding wishes (I just think those are precious) and then one thing that can be displayed (like a frame). I love the idea of the pewter tray as I do need a large serving platter anyhow (and thus will use it........oh, and it can''t break or chip thru the years) but the framed matte I could see everyday. Hmm....I wonder how many hours of thought and research this choice will take, eh?

Tacori~ I actually attempted to find it at PB''s site but had no luck. I''m sure it''s fabulous tho and I would love to see it! I am sure it costs more than I''d like but it never hurts to look! So, if you have the time, a pic would definitely be nice :) Thank you!

So Happy, where''d you find that book for wedding wishes? Something like that would be great to have! I think a book like that and then the mat would be perfect for me. Have you found a good mat yet?

So Happy, I thought of you yesterday when I came across an idea in a bridal magazine -- I think it was the most recent Brides. One couple they profiled used decorated tiles as the placecards (with a pretty design and each person''s name), and then left special markers for each person to write their message/wishes on the tile. Then they took all the tiles and made a big hanging plaque thingy out of them with a frame. Sounds like it could be really cool, esp. if it isn''t too big of a crowd.

I found this little book here Link to guest book alternative. VERY affordable and holds 72 cards which should be fine as I can imagine not everyone fills one out. And it looks quite compact and easy to keep around at least out on the coffee table for awhile so we can appreciate all the wonderful words :)

Hey, thank you!! I really like that idea and I very much appreciate you passing on good ideas like that! I don''t know that we are quite that industrious but will keep it in mind

Great site! Thanks for posting it!! But now that I''m looking at it, I''m wondering about whether to get one or two things. Will people think they''re repetitive? I didn''t initially but it seems that (based on the plates on the site) people do write messages and not just sign. Hmmm, another decision to make.

Haha! Yeah, that site has a few more options than my brain can handle too lol. You may like this one, too...............(a bit pricey but hey...mine as well get all the options out there at one time so we can obsess accordingly and all at once)...........idoengraveables.com

Ok, the stuff on that 2nd site was a bit pricey for me but very nice! I think I like the idea of having the mat and book still but just not sure. I''d ask my FI but I don''t see him having any input on this question.
What to do, what to do..........

I just remembered that Ms Flutter has the CUTEST guest book. Search for her thread.
