I got a very apologetic email late last night from my matron of honor (mind you, we are having a destination wedding and fiance and i are only having one attendant) saying that she didn''t order the dress when i sent it to her and told her about it over a month ago. she said she was in a tight financial spot, which i understand because she has a 6 mo old baby and a new house. and that now the dress is only available in sizes 16 and 18 (she is a 6). i am REALLY frustrated. i wish so badly that she had just told me this a month ago, and i would''ve bought the dress for her! i bought her a necklace to go with the dress and was really excited about having her wear that dress.

i did not let her know that i am annoyed because i know how much she has going on with the baby right now, so i just said don''t worry about it! she is calling the store today, but it looks like i have to find a new dress for her.

any idaes? this was the dress

Did she have a sales person check to see if it was at other stores? A lot of times, things that are not available online can still be found at individual stores. Have an employee do a search on their computer system. I will do some searching online to see if I can find an alternative - it''s very pretty, and I love dupioni silk.

what do you think about this

That''s too bad. You should not have too much trouble finding something else, though. What is the most important feature of the dress [color, length, halter, etc.]?

Here is a short silk halter in a dark blue, for instance.

Also, you said that she is your only attendant, right? I think that if money is tight, and there''s no concern about matching colors exactly to someone else, then maybe you could let her shop for a navy dress on her own... find something in her price range. You can give her parameters like "knee length and x,y, or z material" or whatever. This might give both of you a little less stress.

i really want it to hit right at or below the knee, preferably strapless, and either silk or taffeta. thanks for the links!!

what do you think about these:

a lot cheaper

she is tall, so she looks better in slightly longer dresses. is this ok? personally i don''t love the length, but the color is right and it is only about $100.

That''s pretty. You can always shorten it if it is too long.

I love jcrew dresses at bridesmaids dresses, so I don''t think you can go wrong. The second one is really straight through the hips, so just make sure that a straight skirt ill be flattering.

The lord and Taylor dress is pretty as well. If she does have to shorten it, she may want to get some of the volume taken in out of the skirt. I''m 5''5" and I know I have to do this whenever I shorten a dress that is supposed to be knee length on others, so I would think the rule applies to a longer dress, on a taller girl...make sense?

Coco, so sorry that this happened to you! I''m sure she didn''t want to bother you with the bar and everything. You''ll be able to find something that works!

I''m sorry to hear this cocolaw! That is super annoying and frustrating! I like the tea length one you found quite a bit and you could pay for the alterations if you really want it closer to knee length. If I was an avid, savvy shopper I would help. But alas, I know nothing

Well, we could do a phone chain...

Anyone interested in help could physically call the stores in their area/state. It might take some time, but I''d sure be willing to help. I live in Chicago, so I might have some luck. If it was found, we could ask them to hold it--let you know it''s been found, have your friend or you call and pay over the phone via CC and have it shipped.

Just an idea...let me know what I can do...

It''s an on-line exclusive, so they don''t carry it in stores. I would check ebay. They have a lot of Ann Taylor dresses on ebay.

Just checked ebay. No luck.

Coco, is your only color navy? Reason I ask is because I have a size 6 silk shantung aria bridesmaid dress hanging in my closet that I would be willing to get rid of for a very very low price however it is a light green color.

thank you everyone for all of the suggestions!! i think it is going to work out fine. i sent her 3 options:

lord and taylor

jcrew1

jcrew2

i did not love the lord and taylor one, but i wanted to give it to her as an option because it is a lot cheaper. she got back to me (feels terrible) and said that her favorites were the jcrew dresses, so i am letting her pick between those two. i think both of them are beautiful, and she can decide which one will compliment her figure the best or is the most wearable.

again, thanks pricescope ladies

Online exclusives can be returned to stores, and frequently are. They usually end up deeply discounted, because only one or two end up in the store. However, it would make a phone chain terribly inefficient...
