melring.jpg Purchased on Etsy. I have never seen a gray Old Mine diamond so I'm hoping it's at least somewhat rare. It was very difficult to capture the correct color but this is pretty close. Sold as a Victorian ring from around 1840. I estimate the diamond to be around .125 cts - still worth it for a GIA report?

It's not something I would send for paperwork at that size.

I would not because it is very small and not super rare like a pink or blue diamond. But that's me. YMMV

I wouldn't because unsetting it for an accurate appraisal could ruin that lovely setting. What are you looking to achieve with a GIA cert?

I wouldn't need to have it unset to be graded. I think there's a slight chance it could be graded as a fancy violet gray diamond (the violet is not coming through in photos). I'll probably just get a friend to look at it unofficially and let me know how I did. :)

If those are pearls, do not use regular jewelry cleaner - and never use silver cleaner - as it will dissolve the lustre.

I love the swirly setting. So intricate.

Wow! That's a pretty ring. I love the antique style.

For me, personally, I'd be more curious about the ring itself, whether it really dates to 1840, etc. I'd probably take it to someone knowledgeable about antique jewelry, but that's just me and my curiosity.

Aside from that, I say enjoy as-is. It's quite lovely.

That is a beautiful ring! I would personally just want to know how best to take care of it, so it doesn’t get damaged.

What a cute little ring! I love the look. Given the size, I probably wouldn't go for grading due to the expense, but if you think it might come back as a violet, it might be worth it! Regardless, I just love it. Do you know any more about the origin?
