My mother just offered to make my dress and veil for my wedding!

I love vintage look gowns but I am busty and hard to fit into regular sizes, and my mom sent me a link to this pattern:
Simplicity ''30s Wedding Gown

it! She has offered to create this dress for me in any fabric I want, and we can add vintage brooches or other sparkle to it with embellishments. SO excited!

I already have these shoes to go with it, I saved them from my previous engagement:
Special Occasions Maggie

Just wanted to share! Can''t wait to show you all pics of this gown in progress eventually...

equ! THat is STUNNING! I think that is the dress Karen from the show "californication" wears in the finale of season one. Totally worth seeing (I like the show!) but just to see that dress in action! I was swooning over it hard core. If you have Netflix, they stream Season 1.

Seriously, will be stunning! I wish my Mom were a seamstress

wow, so beautiful! definitely post more pics showing us the work in progress, it''ll be so exciting seeing it all come together!

equestrienne, that is great news! And I''m sure your Mom will be easy to work with! Can''t wait to see the final product! Do you have in mind what kind of fabric you''re going to use?

I love the retro vibe of the dress. I think it will be very figure flattering with curves. Lucky you that your mom is both talented AND willing.

Swooooooon.... I cannot wait to see photos as the process begins! Lucky, lucky lady, you are!

Hello gorgeous, that dress is fabulous!!!

ETA: I found a picture of Karen''s wedding dress in Californication.

Equ! That is so exciting! After my mother made both of my prom dresses (and I knew she had made her own wedding dress), she explicitly told me she would NOT make my wedding dress for me. I laugh about it now, but was a little sad at age 18!

It''s dreamy. Love it!

(That''s weird, totally thought I commented on this thread already?!)

Eq, that dress is absolutely beautiful! What fabric do you think you''ll choose? How long will it take your mom to sew it? How exciting!

Thanks so much for all your comments, PSers! Dannielle, thanks for the photo - her dress is lovely! I hope mine looks just as nice when done. My mom worked in a bridal shop in her high school years, and has tailored and/or made many dresses and veils for others over the years. She used to make all my Halloween costumes as a kid, I had some super cool ones. Her most recent wedding project was a mantilla veil for my cousin's wedding. I'll attach a photo. This is going to be such a fun sewing project for Mom and a really special dress for me.

I am waiting to finalize my date to see what season I will be working with, and the dress fabric could change based on that. Could go charmeuse, lace, duchesse, a combo of fabrics, anything! I want to find some fabulous vintage dress clips for the shoulders of the dress, and maybe do a brooch or applique for the front of the dress. Once we get the pattern, she'll start with a muslin mockup of the gown and we'll go from there with sizing and fabric. I will definitely keep you all posted on our progress.

My cousin''s mantilla. There was a blusher added for the ceremony.
