Hi All,
I think I may have a problem I never anticipated. I was all set to have Knox mount a stone (pink Tourmaline, square cut) for me when I was informed that "soft stones and square cuts are a no, no in white gold." They could only do it in platinum. I am sure I have seen Tourmalines in white gold on PS. Am I hallucinating? What gives? Have any of you had this problem? What''s to do? I need advice. Sundragon

Are you sure that''s the whole story? Square tourmalines are set in white gold all the time. There must be some other reason.

Does the metal used depend on a stone''s hardness?

Is it perhaps that they don''t want to take blame if it should break for some reason? I had a jeweler say to me that he would not set a stone he did not source himself unless it was a sapphire or diamond due to hardness of the stone.
Maybe you should try another jeweler?

I think all of you are right. Today I think I will take the stone and some pics of the setting I like to a jeweler here in town and see how I fare. Thanks to all for letting me vent. Sundragon
