Somebody's Gotta Buy This Stone!

For those with the funds (>$5k), because sadly I do not. Please, please buy it, a fellow, PSer! I've talked with Roger about this one for awhile and it's finally listed on his site. There's a neat story behind it, so I'll leave that discovery up to the person who grabs it.

I know there are some of us keeping our eyes peeled for a vanadium chrysoberyl. One popped up on Multicolour:
http://www.multicolour.com/detail/?/details/single/chrysoberyl/cb10100aa/&1244716636

It could have greater saturation, but not too bad and 3.26 cts if you have $2,400.

It would be interesting how this cHrysoberyl looks like in real life.

I think it is a bit more on the green side - I miss the typical bluishgreen of a fine V-Chryso...

He offer this stone for a long time now - around 500 pct maybe interesting - I think it is to expensive...

Agree with your summary - didn't realize this was the same one that has been hanging around. Still, in the absence of finding a bluish one, this is still green. :))

Yes, I have some with a lime color - I like them - next to an ordinary golden or brownish yellow they look great and very special but next to a fine V-Chryso you see the difference and I would pay so much for them...

A european gem dealer offered me around 12 V-Chrysoberyl - only 3 have a good color - some have a yellow hint so interesting but not for me. It is like a fine Merelani mInt and a pale lime grossular..

I just wish the stone was cut better - but then again, its a zircon so I'm sure it will be forgiving!
It was supposedly recut by Dan Stair. I haven't seen any of his stones before in person so not sure of his cutting skills. Guess I'll find out soon!

Here's the video of the recut stone
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=N0hNI8MGLEg

I have a large green zircon (runs about 3.5cts) and though not precision cut, it sparkles like mad. But yeah it could certainly use a recut (can't lie!). I've always found the greens to be a bit hazy, so if yours is, don't be too surprised by it. Can't wait to see what you think!

It arrived! I would say that it seems slightly silky occasionally but not all the time, depending on the lighting. It's not as dispersive as blue zircon but it has a subtle sparkly effect I quite like. The cut is also fantastic, Dan Stair did a good job recutting it.

I posted more photos in the "vendor vs owner photos" sticky. :wavey:

Awesome! I took a peek over there and thats really a gorgeous stone! So many greens can be more olive colored so I'm happy this one turned out more like the vendor image! Greens have their own sort of magic IMO. :appl:

Such a sweet little sapphire from Jason Brim. Cut by Ryan Quantz

That sold within an hour according to the FB page!

Love the culet on that!

Yup - the minute Ryan posted it, I knew it would be sold instantaneously. It hits all the right notes for color, cut, and shape.

Ryan (Stonebender) is an under the radar, up and coming cutter. When you see his stones, don't hesitate to jump on them. He is underrated but I doubt he will be for that much longer.

Thanks for the tip! I thought it was lovely too.

Mesmerizing colour on this Tanzanite from Jeff and a nice size too! It comes with a pricetag but you could ask Jeff for his 'best price' if you tell him you are a PSer.

Wasn't someone looking for a tanzanite recently? This one looks gorgeous!

I swear, this website is going to make me broke. So many pretty gems I want to collect. Now I know how drug addicts feel. :errrr:

Lusting for more green? Then consider this green zircon by Jim McCormick. To my eyes it looks really good in the video.

This stone has been sold, just wondering if a PS'er got it? Was seriously considering it but waited too long I guess! Just curious, and a little jealous maybe! :saint:

Ah, that would be me. Jim had told me that there were three other buyers interested and I wondered if any of them were PSers [emoji4] I've never seen a green /metamict zircon before so I'm not quite sure what to expect, hopefully it looks as amazing as the video.. Apparently green zircon is hard to find in this quality so I'm curious and excited to see it in person.

I probably won't get it til next week because I'm in Asia though, but will try to post pics once it arrives.

Hi junebug17. I have a sneaking suspicion that I might regret this somewhere down the line since a green zircon with this size, precision cut and color is extremely rare, but I decided to return the green zircon (I am kind of regretting it already since it is a collector's piece, but...). So it will be available again very soon, if you are still interested in talking to Jim. :wavey:

I don' t think this is a metamict green zircon!!

There are fantastic "middle" zircon with a beautyful green color and a lot of sparkle - always interesting to buy them course quite cheap compared to other deeper green gems.

Metamict zircon ( then you will a reading on the refractometer) looks like ekanite or moldavite - boring, dull .

I'm just a beginner so I may well have got confused. Just to clarify that the vendor was not selling this as a metamict zircon, only as a green zircon. It was my (mis?) understanding that all green zircon were metamict to some extent, eg low to high. Marlow, thank you for the clarification :) really helpful, I learned something new!

Having a 'bespoke gem' cut can be a very special alternative to buying an already cut gem.
Only buy from a trusted vendor and let it cut by a trusted cutter. The more experienced PSers can advice you in this.

The charming mr Doug Menadue from Bespoke-gems.com has some great rough and is an amazing cutter. If you are in for some blue, watch this! He has some great topaz rough, including a large chunk of untreated top colour topaz (#3). 'Rare as hen's teeth' according to Doug. Rough # 3 may cut up to 5 or 6 gemstones. 2 pieces are earmarked for Mochiko and myself.

Prices are very reasonable (at the moment euro to Australian dollar conversion is much much better compared to euro to USD conversion.
The top colour rough will cost around 140 Australian dollar. The other pieces range from 70 - 90 AUD.

Just adding that prices as mentioned above are per carat.

I tried contacting Doug about pricing for getting one of his tourmaline rough pieces cut, but never heard back... :|

Ah, I have been watching that stone for a while. I am so glad you bought it. Please post lots of pics when you have received it.

Thanks Acinom! I sure will. I love all the stones you and others post here. It's so educational, and I discover new vendors as well.
