I am getting ready to graduate from college, and I couldn''t have done it without my mom. She is a jewelry person too. I want to get her something really special. She doesn''t have a lot of expensive pieces (so I don''t want to overshadow the pieces she feels are). Do you have any suggestions for gift ideas? Do you think a necklace? RHR? I want to get her something timeless. Something she could wear everyday if she wanted. Something really special.

What would you like to receive from your daughter (future daughter)?

What would mean a lot to you?

What have you received that was really special?

Any opinions/input would be appreciated!

Thanks

I think a necklace would be nice. Were you thinking diamonds or gemstones.....Maybe something with her birthstone.

Sparkles, what''s your budget? And it is a very sweet gesture. I know my mom nearly lost it when I gave her a token of my appreciation when I got engaged. I just told her she had been there for me all my life and now I was about to be someone else''s wife and she was the best example I could have had. Honestly, I could have given her a ring pop and it probably would have opened the floodgates.

Looking forward to seeing what the PSers and you come up with!

That is so sweet! You are such a wonderful daughter to want to do this. As the mother of two college students I would be thrilled with anything they gave me that had that sentiment attached to it. I think a nice pendant would be lovely as would a pretty right hand ring. How about something that incorporates your birthstone with some diamonds? Some of it depends on what she already has, what you want to spend, and what she likes. She will be very pleased with whatever you choose.

I haven''t really thought of a budget yet, or whether or not diamonds or gemstones. I am open to any ideas/suggestions.

I guess I just want to get something special.

I like the gemstone idea with a diamond halo...maybe a pendant or a ring. A ring would be nice because she could look at it often and be reminded what a lovely daughter she has.

She has a RHR with a sapphire surrounded by diamonds she wears everyday on her RHR. It was a gift from my dad when they were younger (before they were married), so I know that is not something I am wanting to replace. On her middle finger she wears a CZ 3-stone 14kt gold ring she really liked and bought herself (I know she wishes it was real, but that might be a little out of my price range). She usually wears more than one necklace, but one that she wears everyday is one her dad had set for her its a pear-shaped diamond with diamond sidestones 16". She usually wears an 18" necklace with it, but no specific one. She likes to wear the cheap beaded bracelets (so I don't think she's a real bracelet person for fine jewelry).

She has a lot of jewelry, so I want to find her something special, something she wouldn't buy for herself.

Would she want a rolling ring with diamonds? You can say each ring represents where you''ve been, where you are and where you are going...none of which could have been done without her.

Or what about gemstone earrings? I think Chrono (hopefully I am not wrong) got some cool leverbacks a-la Alj that were modified a little.

Or an half eternity band from signed pieces? Have you checked their site for consignment stuff yet?

Have you thought about a nice watch? That could be something special if she would wear one and doesn''t already have something that she really loves. You could say that it reminds you of all the time she has given you.

I agree that a nice watch has some of the right sentiment, is daily wear and there are so many great options in all price ranges and styles.

that is really cool of you wanting to commemorate her like that. I am sure she will love whatever you get her.

What a thoughtful idea! I''d definitely get her something she doesn''t already have. A rolling ring could be fun, and I was going to suggest a small diamond pendant but it sounds like she already has one she wears.

Depending on your budget, you could also get her a silver Tiffany ring or a silver Tiffany necklace. I know my mom loves it when we get her stuff from Tiffany, and the silver is not super expensive. (Although of course for silver it is very expensive!)

What about a small brooch. My mom adores them! this one is similar to one that I got her with amethysts in it(my birthstone)

Thanks everyone for your great suggestions. What is a rolling ring? I think budget wise I want to stay probably under 500, just because if I get her something more expensive then that she would be upset that I spent so much on her (since I am not working in my career area yet, still have boards to take, etc). Do you think I can find something nice with that budget?

Thanks!

Hey Sparkles, there are several lovely and unique estate pieces on Signed Pieces at the moment that are within your budget. Check them out!

I think a heart pendant would be wonderful. The heart would be a more of an organicly shaped heart (not the perfectly symmetrical, standard heart shape) and along the right side above the bottom point would be five graduated diamonds. The heart would not hang straight, but the bail would be on the top left curve so the heart would kind of "balance" on it''s side and the diamonds would be at almost a vertical angle. Or it could maybe not have a bail at all and the chain could go directly throught the heart. I think a design like that would say everything, be sophisticated rather than juvenile, and something she could wear all the time. Anyway, that''s something *I* would like to receive from one of my children.

Sparkles, congrats on graduating from college!! How sweet, how about a beautiful diamond pendant.

I rec'd a brooch which is super special but I wear my diamond pendant often; you are such a sweet daughter! Here is a link to a rolling ring https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/one-more-rolling-ring-post.70297/

I love the idea of a diamond pendant. That''s soooo sweet of you!!

TravelingGirl: I looked at the website, nothing really screamed "mom" to me, but thank you for the suggestion. I will definately keep the gemstone earrings in mind!

Lumpkin: Do you have a picture of the pendant you''re describing? It sounds beautiful

Skippy: What size diamond pendant do you think is nice?

I don''t think my mom has ever had a diamond that is really well cut, not included, or colorless. She always tells me next time she is looking in the market for a diamond she is going to have me help her. I know she wouldn''t ever get any for herself. I saw a pendant I really liked the shape was beautiful, I am very picky about heart shapes, it was perfect, EXCEPT the diamonds were dull and lifeless. It was an open heart, with big to small diamonds all around it. It was originally $499 on sale for $299 (1/4 carat). I will try to find a picture of it... just have to remember which store it was in.

Thank you everyone!!!

Probably not much more than $500, ideally I would like to find something beautiful for less than that. I know that would probably be pretty hard though for diamonds...

Congratulations on graduating soon. That is so sweet of you to get your mom something special. I like the idea of a heart diamond pendant - it''s certainly one of my favorite pieces of jewelry. You might also consider getting some sapphire earrings to go with the ring she loves to wear. Of course, I am sure she''ll love anything you get for her.

Is your mother''s birthstone a color that would look good on her? Last year I bought a good-sized, untreated aquamarine for my mother and had it set in a simple, fairly standard basket-style pendant. I was expecting protests after she got it, but she didn''t once tell me I shouldn''t have!

She loves wearing it, and I like to keep my eyes peeled for tops that would go well with the pendant when I''m out bargain hunting!

I think this is one of the sweetest things I''ve ever heard ... and now, I''m almost wishing that my mother didn''t already have such lovely watches (well, not really, since they were all gifts to her from my dad, and I know that she enjoys them), just so that I could do something similar ... but Mother''s Day is coming up soon, and obviously, I''ll have to start my own thread for that.

But, on that *note* ... I''m getting a watch from my husband for an upcoming b-day, so I''ve been eyeballing places like OverStock. For $500, you can get a really lovely watch - with diamonds, even! What about something like this?

Below budget, but valued slightly above ....

Or, alternately, maybe something a little snazzier, like this?

Now, admittedly, I have no idea what your mom''s taste is - silver tones vs. gold tones, round faces vs. tank, etc. - but there are some lovely pieces out there that fit your range ....

Circe: Those watches are both very pretty!

Minimis: Her birthstone is garnet (which she doesn''t like) and mine is pearl/alexandrite (she doesn''t like pearls~ I bought her a gold and pearl beaded necklace that is really pretty but she doesn''t ever wear it, I don''t know if she likes alexandrite)

Maryc: My mom loves hearts too. She has one that is similar to yours that I love, except it''s a lot bigger (and YG) so she never wears it (clams it is too big, she wore it for a long time, and stopped). I don''t know if she would wear one similar (I would though, I love it). I also don''t know if it''s because it''s YG and she just recently started liking WG or if it''s because she lost it once (someone found it and turned it in thinking it was fake)

I saw this the other day when I was at Shane Co picking up my finished ring (pics to come Sat). I thought this was pretty. It''s big though (like and 1 1/2 inches maybe).

Sparkles, the one you posted is really similar to what I was thinking. Sorry I didn''t see your reply until now.

Here is one a little closer to what I had in mind. The only real difference is that the heart would be tipped instead of vertical, and the heart would be slightly larger and no sharp corners. It would be really fluid. I have not ever seen exactly the pendent I was thinking of, but there are lots of styles that come close.

How sweet of you to do this for your mother.

I thought that pendant was very pretty too but I wouldn''t like one that big. Since your mom has no clue you are getting her something you might ask her about the heart pendant she used to wear. I had a 1 carat heart pendant and sold it because I felt like I was wearing a 50 cent piece on a chain; it was too big and heavy for me. She might give you an idea of something she wants. I can''t wait to see your pictures tomorrow.

I also saw this pendant there (in WG) and I thought it was really pretty....

It''s a 1/5 carat round diamond

Sparkles, I''ve tried this pendant on and really liked it. It''s nicely done - very classy looking.
