Songs that mention sparklies - let's make a PS playlist!

Bruno Mars "That's what I like"

"Gold jewelry shining so bright
Strawberry champagne on ice
Lucky for you, that's what I like, that's what I like
Lucky for you, that's what I like, that's what I like
Sex by the fire at night
Silk sheets and diamonds all white
Lucky for you, that's what I like, that's what I like
Lucky for you, that's what I like, that's what I like"

And also 24K magic:

"Players, put yo' pinky rings up to the moon
Girls, what y'all trying to do?
Twenty four karat magic in the air
Head to toe so player
Look out uh"

I just heard this one on the radio.
"Sweet Gypsy Rose" by Tony Orlando and Dawn

Now she's got rings on her fingers
And bells on her toes

Band Of Gold by Belinda Carlisle from the 80's. Originally by Freda Payne 1970.

Now that you're gone
All that's left is a band of gold
All that's left of the dreams I hold
Is a band of gold
And the memories of what love could be
If you were still here with me

Two out of Three Ain't Bad by Meatloaf

You'll never find your gold on a sandy beach
You'll never drill for oil on a city street
I know you're lookin' for a ruby in a mountain of rocks
But there ain't no Coupe de Ville
Hidin' at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box

“She’s Got You,” maybe? One of my favorite songs. I know it from “The List,” a Roseann Cash album made up of songs from a list that her father had prepared for her, of 100 country and American songs that she ought to know if she was going to be a musician.

Yes, She's got you. Interesting anecdote!!

Lips are movin’ by Meghan Trainer
We found love by Rihanna
Otis by Jay Z and Ye

“The Right Left Hand” by George Jones

I put a golden band on the right left hand this time,
And the right left hand put a golden band on mine.
When our hair is snowy white,
Time will prove I’m right.
I put a golden band on the right left hand this time.

Jack's Mannequin - People, Running

We are just these people, such tragic little things
You take a girlfriend to a drug deal
Fall in love and now she wears a diamond ring
We are tired of waiting, all bandages and strings
Hold you together and keep you up enough
You drift in no direction so it seems

All My Friends
by The Revivalists

"I'm in my twenties, not getting restless
Got some hip now on my diamond necklace
It's a brand new world, I got a brand new heart
And everyday I get a brand new start"

99

"Back then we were trading
Cards behind the swings
Oh no, now it's money, gold, and diamond rings
Now those days are over
And we are all ghosts"

Satellite

“Satellite in my eyes
Like a diamond in the sky
How I wonder
Satellite strung from t he moon
And the world your balloon
Peeping Tom for the mother station”

Tomorrow’s Gonna Be A Brighter Day-Jim Croce

“And if I had my way
I would reach into heaven
And I'd pull down a star for a present
And I'd make you a chain out of diamonds
And pearls from a summer sea”

The Weight of Dreams
by Greta Van Fleet

All across the west we traveled wayward for
Find the weight of dreams in gold
Heaven sent us here to meet the hallowed shore
To claim the wealth that we had sold

Gold mines melting men in the sunshine
Spoiled wine tastes so sweet we have gone blind
Gold mines melting men in the sunshine
Spoiled wine tastes so sweet, we have gone blind

We stole from her a cloak of studded majesty
The queen is dead, we robbed her grave
You can still bathe in the river but it ran dry
And all of us have turned away

Gold mines melting men in the sunshine
Spoiled wine tastes so sweet, we have gone blind
Gold mines melting men in the sunshine
Spoiled wine tastes so sweet, we have gone blind

Gold on the Ceiling Song
by The Black Keys

Down in the waves
She screams again
Roar at the door
My mind can't take much more

I could never drown

They wanna get my

They wanna get my
Gold on the ceiling
I ain't blind
Just a matter of time
Before you steal it
It's alright
Ain't no blood in my eye

Clouds covered love's
Barbed-wire fence
Strung up, strung out
I just can't go without

I could never drown

They wanna get my

They wanna get my
Gold on the ceiling
I ain't blind
Just a matter of time
Before you steal it
It's alright
Ain't no blood in my eye

They wanna get my

They wanna get my
Gold on the ceiling
I ain't blind
Just a matter of time
Before you steal it
It's alright
Ain't no blood in my eye

Gold on the ceiling
I ain't blind
Just a matter of time
Before you steal it
It's alright
Ain't no blood in my eye

John Prine, You’ve Got Gold:

All of these are awesome songs, thanks y'all!

I need to update my playlist!

Taking some liberties here! Just pasting the more relevant lyrics. I swear nearly everything mentions jewelry in some form.

Paper Rings, Taylor Swift
I like shiny things, but I'd marry you with paper rings
Uh huh, that's right
Darling, you're the one I want, and
I hate accidents except when we went from friends to this
Uh huh, that's right
Darling, you're the one I want
In paper rings, in picture frames, in dirty dreams
Oh, you're the one I want

No Diggity, Blackstreet
I like the way you work it
No diggity, I got to bag it up, bag it up, babe
I like the way you work it
No diggity, I got to bag it up, get up
Hey yo, hey yo, hey yo, hey yo (Hey yo, that girl looks good)
Hey yo, hey yo, hey yo, hey yo (Play on, play on, player)
Hey yo, hey yo, hey yo, hey yo (You're my kind of girl)
Hey yo, hey yo, hey yo, hey yo (Hey yo)
'Cause that's my peeps, and we rolls deep
Flyin' first class from New York City to Blackstreet
What you know about me? Not a m-f- thing
Cartier wooden frames sported by my shorty
As for me, icy gleaming pinky diamond ring
We be's the baddest clique up on the scene

Ride Wit Me, Nelly
I like the way you brush your hair
And I like those stylish clothes you wear
I like the way the light hit the ice and glare
And I can see you, boo, from way over there

Bejeweled, Taylor Swift
Best believe I'm still bejeweled
When I walk in the room
I can still make the whole place shimmer
And when I meet the band
They ask, "Do you have a man?"
I can still say, "I don't remember"
Familiarity breeds contempt
Don't put me in the basement
When I want the penthouse of your heart
Diamonds in my eyes
I polish up real, I polish up real nice

Uptown Girl, Billy Joel
Uptown girl
You know I can't afford to buy her pearls
But maybe someday when my ship comes in
She'll understand what kind of guy I've been
And then I'll win

Jenny From the Block, Jennifer Lopez
Don't be fooled by the rocks that I got
I'm still, I'm still Jenny from the block
Used to have a little, now I have a lot
No matter where I go, I know where I came from (from the Bronx)

Diamonds, Rhianna

Truth Hurts, Lizzo
I just took a DNA test, turns out I'm 100% that bitch
Even when I'm crying crazy
Yeah, I got boy problems, that's the human in me
Bling bling, then I solve 'em, that's the goddess in me

If you want to go just on titles:
Ice, Ice, Baby, Vanilla Ice
Under Pressure, Queen
Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Deep Blue Something
Clarity, Zedd
Fancy, Izzy Azalea

Hi:

A little late, but "Santa Baby". HoHoHo.

cheers--Sharon

There are certain things in life that you proceed with caution. For instance, tequila has a weird side effect of making clothes fall off.

But diamonds. Holy crap. They make babies!

So clear, like the diamond in your ring
Cut to mirror your intention
Oversized and overwhelmed
The shine of which has caught my eye
And rendered me so isolated
So motivated
I am certain now that
I am
Vindicated
I am selfish, I am wrong
I am right, I swear I'm right
Swear I knew it all along
And I am flawed
But I am cleaning up so well
I am seeing in me now
The things you swore you saw yourself

Dashboard Confessional Vindicated

So here's a question. In Nelly's "Ride with Me", there's this line:

Shorty wanna see the ice, then I ice the wrist

I always thought it meant he's going to buy his lady a tennis bracelet. But my husband who is more worldly than me swears its a reference to crystal meth.

What do y'all think? If its diamonds, I'll put it on the playlist.

Hahaha. Diamonds! Definitely diamonds.

White Feather
by Amanda Shires

"We're drownin' in diamonds borrowed and charged"

If I Ruled the World (Imagine That)
by Nas

"Black diamonds and pearls"

Diamonds
by Ben Howard

A little off topic, in that it's not a song you would put on your playlist as an adult, but I found it humorous and ironic reading this thread; I have a two year old granddaughter, and a song that I sing to her often is Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star (like a diamond in the sky) All I could think was, my gosh, we start this fascination with diamonds and gems early!

Anyway, proceed...

You are right!
An early memory of mine is loving the song "Crystal Blue Persuasion" by Tommy James. I was about 5 years old, and this was 1969. I thought the song was about sapphires!
