13.30ct GIA CERTIFIED UNHEATED VIOLETISH-BLUE TANZANITE

For some reason I can not paste the link - the problem started when I deleted cookies. But it is the only tanzanite of such a size. With GIA certificate. I do not believe tanzanites evern come as unheated

Yes it is possible

OH MY GOODNESS!!! I was thinking the EXACT same thing two nights ago when I was shopping!!!!! Isn''t that odd? I thought it was impossilbe too. And from what I read, I was sure there must have been a mistake. I didn''t know that tanzanite could come out of the ground and be that color without heat...

I should add that while possible, it is unusual. Most Tanzanite comes out of the ground looking much like the ground. It is then heated to bring the color out. However the heating cannot be detected afterwards. The good color then, cannot be cited as evidence of treatment. Since it is found in a formerly volcanic area it may be that the stones that are lovely blue out of the ground were heated there by nature. Adding to the confusion then is when a cutters acquire their rough close to the source, then cut it and heat it themselves with improvement in color. Was their rough unheated or does the stone respond to two heatings? I wonder this also about zircon.

There is a market for unheated sapphire because gem labs can determine if a sapphire has been heated. Thus unheated sapphire sells for a higher price.

There is no market for unheated tanzanite because gem labs generally cannot determine if it has been heated. Thus there is no premium for unheated tanzanite -- the market prices tanzanite according to color and clarity, and assumes that it has been heated.

Did you also see his 9 carat eye clean chrome green tsavorite? He has some major stones. Some of his sapphires are huge and unheated as well. I think it''s possible it''s unheated, but don''t pay a premium for the untreated status, but for the quality of color/clarity/size combination.

Oh I''d "dabble" in his sapphires but I have already ordered one from another vendor. With Gary B''s it will make two... Let me see how it goes.
