Rookie question here:

I upgraded my stone to what will be 2mm bigger all around. I’m pretty sure my current setting cannot accommodate it.
Wanting to use the same ring, could the basket be changed out without messing with the structural integrity of the ring? It’s 14k yellow gold.

Can I go to any jeweler to do this or should I go to one that is hand forged?

I’m also open to adding a halo or additional diamonds on the prongs perhapif any of that is possible.

any information on this would be useful. Thanks in advance.

You could always go to a few jewelers and ask if they'd be able to modify it, but I suspect the answer will be no.

The best outcome is if the stone still fits in the basket and the jeweller just needs to make longer prongs to hold the stone.

I think it is unlikely they would agree to cut out the basket as yours is a cathedral setting and it will most likely ruin the structure and the pretty details.

If it doesn’t fit, I would suggest making a new setting, and turning this ring into a lovely right hand ring. If you’d like a sapphire, we can help you look over at the colored stones forum.
