Has anyone seen a spess cut into an asscher? Would it work? Any ideas for a similar look?

I don''t believe I have. I wonder why that is?

I tried looking for a spess asscher 2 years ago. Did not find any. Dan was unable to cut me one as well because the shape of the rough just wasn''t suitable. I did find one from All That Glitters with a modified asscher cut (the bottom was step cut but the top was a brilliant. No it''s the other way around. The top was step cut and the pavilion was a mixed cut...I think). It was lovely but a wee to dark for me but another PSer bought it after I returned it. Since then, I haven''t seen anything else close to an asscher spessartite.

i haven''t seen one either! imo, it would be a waste of the high RI [its #4] but then i like emerald cut diamonds and most think that''s a waste. actually, it would be interesting....unless most rough has inclusions that would be too visible in that cut? just guessing though.......

Well, I am sending my cutter an e-mail and we may soon see one. Let''s just see what he says.

There is no reason that a spessartite couldn''t be cut in an asscher cut. Actually the high RI would work good in this design.
One of the obstacles of the asscher is that you want a really clean stone since it''s more of a design that you look into rather get a lot of reflection out of. The new spesartite find from last year in Tanzania produced very nice colored stones, but they all have some bubbles in them. The Africans call these "sugar". By the way, that Tanzanian find of spessartite is dried up.

I do have a yellow-orange sapphire asscher that I bought recently. It is very bright and sparkly. I''ll try to take some pictures this weekend for you. I haven''t decided if I want to keep it because it is a little too orange for my taste.

I can''t tell if I like it or not. The color is somewhere between a yellow stop light and orange soda... It''s very bright and sparkly though.
