I’ve made no secret I scour auctions for items
Latest find is this spinel pendant
Diamonds look earth mined they have some inclusions that suggest such
The spinel is beautiful and almost too clean…. As I read most spinels have inclusions.
I don’t know enough about synthetic spinel.
Best I can do is these 2 pictures.
Any thoughts on it
Colors beautiful
Does have some extinction
I noticed the wavy looking areas upon zooming in
I didn’t see them with a loupe so I’m not sure if it’s reflecting off the surface but those more experienced may have a comment
I also don’t know if it’s reasonable or normal that a synthetic stone would be paired with real diamonds??

It doesn’t have the flux inclusions I’ve seen j. A ruby but it doesn’t seem to have any inclusions

wow- its a very pretty piece

Synthetics can be paired with real diamonds, especially in vintage pieces. If it looks too pristine, almost like a piece of cut glass, it could be synthetic. I would have it looked by a gemologist that specializes in colored gems to be sure.

When you say auction, do you mean from an auction house or like ebay?

My gut tells me it's a synthetic spinel.

Not promising I'm afraid... I sighed when I read the words "almost too clean" and "wavy looking areas", since synthetics can have curved growth lines.

You can see what I'm referring to in the picture. Since it's a cell phone image I'm not sure if what Im seeing is reflections etc.

In the time thats passed I contacted the seller who supposedly has GIA certified gemologists inspect items; they swear its natural I took it to my local jeweler he said its not synthetic. I am sending it off to GIA now.

Something about the setting and the colour of the stone. But it's entirely based on biased assumptions so may well be completely wrong.

I think the color maybe is what’s making me question
It’s very nice

FWIW I tried to find something similar online to indicate any possible manufacturer
Nothing similar I can find

Not bad? I’d say you scored a deal! Gratz!

My preliminary GIA report lists it as a natural, unheated spinel! I'm a little surprised b/c it's so beautiful and clean. Not a bad find for $275 roughly?

Omg, this is amazing! This would make my decade, as red spinels are my absolute favorite. Congratulations

Can anyone give me an estimate of value
Just ballpark
I know the diamonds are real
Some have some black specs almost like salt and pepper
Not real high quality

Spinel is .83 ct

Sorry can’t help you with value. Tanzanian or Burma are the best origins. Lovely stone!

The Gia labeled the color as “red” while the seller had it as pink
