Hi everyone. I had been waiting on the jeweler to call so I could go see the ring. Yesterday I went in and well, I'll probably do some changes. I wanted a simple halo. And he did something quite different. Although I don't dislike it, the basket waa way big so in order for him to show it so I could visualize how it would look if the basket was smaller he filled the gaps on the sides of the stone with gold. And well, the prongs are certainly not finished and more of a stand in.

I am now trying to wrap my head and decide if I want to go to the halo or keep what he did just have him redo it and create a smaller basket and finish the claw prongs. Decisions, decisions! image_1962.jpg

If you want to go with a halo, I would go with a setting that fits the spinel correctly. If the jeweller puts in a smaller basket, you will either have an air-gap between the halo and basket, or the jeweller has to compensate for that gap by setting the basket higher up above the halo.

Thanks Chrono. I appreciate you commenting and helping along the way in this ring project. I am so new to this that it's hard to know why things look off and have an idea of how to fix it. I don't mind the difference in the style. I actually like what he did but it would be great if it just fit the stone. And of course the prongs need to be fixed.

A custom halo should fit perfectly.
