I received a couple of spinels in the mail to day from Dan Stair - he was wonderful in answering all of my emails and cutting these great stones for me

I wrote to Dan originally enquiring about the beautiful asscher that Mercoledi got (but unfortunately was on a very long list!) - then I asked about the rough, that ended up being the Freke''s second potential engagement ring spinel....in the end Dan cut me one of each for myself

I have been wanting a stone for a ring for my anniversary present...but now have no idea what I''m going to do (because I love them both!)

The round is 1.44ct 6.99mm which is soooo sparkly in real life (unfortunately my photography skills suck, and there wasn''t any sun today, and these pics were taken in the evening); the asscher is 1.40 ct 5.93mm

Both stones are blue in daylight (although I haven''t seen them in real daylight yet) and purple under incandescent light...

I''m afraid after this long winded post - I only have a couple of pics to share at the moment...I will try and get better ones during the day tomorrow, or on the weekend

Indoors, cloudy day - end of day (so not really daylight)...but sort of shows the blue colour...I can''t wait to see them in the sunshine!

Thanks Diamondcookie! I''m very happy with them - which is why I couldn''t help sharing with people who love gems as much as me - even though my photos aren''t any good!

Yay! More Dan stones!!!!!

I''m sorry I got that spinel out from under your nose! I haven''t even gotten to see it yet! But it looks like you got two incredible stones--I can''t wait to see more pics of them as well as what you end up doing with them!!!!

I need a dang Dan Stair asscher...One of these days...

Thanks Old Man Coyote - hopefully my pics will eventually get better

Thank you, bling, for posting the great photos of those stones. I''m still learning what Dan''s photos look like in real life, and your pictures are a great help.

Beautiful spinels. I''m afraid I would end up keeping both, if I were you. Such a lovely pair!

, cushion cut nut (I''m about to try and get some better pics), Kelli (I''d recommend asking Dan to cut what you want when you''re ready - I kept missing out when I waited to see something I liked!), Geckodani (I know you want an asscher - go on ask dan to cut you one

), Thanks AJ and Gladys

It''s just that I will only set one for now, and I''ll hold on to the other one probably for a litte bit and set it later

If anyone has any suggestions for setting ideas I''d love some help! I definitely want to set one in a ring, but haven''t decided which one.

For the asscher - I have been thinking of setting it in a plain bezel, or x-prong solitaire
For the round - I have been thinking of setting it in a halo - like a round legacy style ring, or a simple three stone ring....

Any thoughts?

Well I''m going to see what I can do about getting some better pics now!

I managed to take a few more pics today which show the lovely blue colours these spinels look in the daylight

I can''t wait to set them - I think that it will now be in my husband''s hands....so hopefully that won''t mean a long wait....
