Gorgeous color, and unusual brilliance for a sapphire.

Nice work.

Any hint as to the country of origin?

love the colour!

WOW! I love that!

Thanks for your kind words Richard! I was pretty surprised at how much light return the stone gave forth. I was told it was likely heated but they vendors did not specify probable origin. My guess is Sri Lanka.

Here is my other sapphire... the bigger brother to the first with a non-precision cut that is every bit as brilliant as the first with a slightly more pronouced violet component :) Starting with the vendor pictures:

oops sorry that was far too small!

The stone is 4.88 cts AGTA certed as unheated and purported to be from Sri Lanka. The vendor is Simply Sapphires... a great company to work with!

Big brother doesn’t need to chase away the blues – he looks to have good colour himself.

Aww shucks TL you are always so kind to comment, I quite a bit of time trying to get just the right shot, I am happy to be able to share the results with people who can enjoy them! Here is a neat shot with the stone showing its more violet side... at this angle no tilt window to be had!

The newest picture shows a lovely violet shade and I can see the portugese faceting.

Here is a picture I happened to take with my cell phone... rather grainy but it shows its size in comparison to a hand... done in my office as soon as I opened the box heheh

Hi Matata,

Its been a while since I''ve seen you post here :) I think your red spinel saga way back when was what got me interested in spinels in the first place! Thanks for your compliment, I appreciate it

If you get the chance here is a LINK to my own spinel collection, hope you like the pics.
