Hi Ladies-

I''ve booked my photographer and florist, so now I''m on to my entertainment. I think we''re going to go with a DJ, but as the guests arrive and then during the ceremony and cocktail hour I want live music. What do you think about a steel drummer? The wedding is on July 4th on a cliff/grass overlooking the ocean (not a beach theme- just the beautiful setting). The cocktail hour would be held right next to the ceremony site. At first I was thinking acoustic guitar, but I really love how this would be different, and bring in a fun vibe. What do you think, is it cheesy? Too carribean?

I don''t know about cheesy, but steel drums always make me happy and put me in a festive mood!

Oooo, I agree with TGal. It would be fun and not the same thing you see at everyone else''s wedding. Go for the Steel Drummer!

I have booked steel drummers for my cocktail hour. I think it''s a great idea that you don''t see too often. I hope my guests love it!

Steel drums always make me happy too! They bring back lots of fond memories of being on vacation! So here''s another question- he can play various types of music on it. Do I have him play some more classical songs for the ceremony or would that sound wrong on a steel drum?

Here''s the song list on his website. Not sure yet if he can play anything outside of the list...

I have a friend from Antigua who plays a steel drum! It will be very nice and set the right mood, I think!

Who did you end up choosing as your florist? Did you end up going with Semia?

I thin steel drums are really cool, but your venue is so "Newport" I don''t know if they really match, cause they do make me think Carribbean. But I know you wanted a destination wedding in the first place, so it may be a way to incorporate some of that tropical feel!

Yeah that''s what I''m worried about- I don''t want it to look completely out of place. If I had to describe the look/feel I''m going for it''s sophisticated infused with summertime fun. I.e. classic white color pallette with turqoise and apple green accents. Classic low flower arrangements on half of the tables, and more artistic/fun taller arrangements on the other half. Traditional ballroom chairs inside the tent and firepits with adirondack chairs outside. Do you think the steel drum might be too different?

I did go with Semia btw. She worked with me to make some changes that still give me the look I want, but are more affordable. I''m very excited!

Ohhhh! When I read "steel drummer" in the subject line, I immediately got excited! We had one for our cocktail hour and it was a hit. We had a DW, followed by a Post-Wedding reception and wanted to continue the tropical theme. So the steel drum fit right in. I say go for it!

That''s awesome! I''m sure you''ll be pleased with her, she gets such rave reviews.

Ok, to be completely honest, I probably wouldn''t do the steel drummer if I had your venue and your theme ideas...But that doesn''t mean that if I were a guest, I would think it was out of place. I''d probably think it was pretty cool. That''s just me though.
