Has anyone found a lapidary who is able to inset a stone within a stone?

I have seen this done in high jewellery and I just love the look of it.

I’ve come across a high domed cabochon emerald, not expensive, with a nice colour round the sides but a horrible whitish “garden” in the dome. I’d love to drill out the centre of it and set a spess garnet in that hole using yellow gold. But I don’t know if it’s even possible to do that and what kind of cutter would be willing or able to give it a shot.

If it didn’t work I’d only be risking a couple of hundred bucks. But I think it could be really cool.

Gemfix's gem-trusion comes to mind, but I don't know if they do it for cabs.

David Klass does this.

I love this idea!!!!

Nothing helpful to add - just want to follow this to see where the project goes! I loooove this idea and the color combo is yummy!

Fascinating idea! Can't wait to see where this goes!

@Rfisher, I know because I inquired about doing something similar, but the project did not materialize. Not sure if he's ever posted examples of the style.
