Just want to hear what other people think about strapped vs. strapless when it comes to weddings and dances after i read another article quoting an anti-strapless view - http://daily.stanford.org/tempo?page=content&id=16152&repository=0001_article

one of my friends said there is nothing wrong with a strapless dress as long as it is fitted properly

I''ve found that most of the wedding dresses now are strapless, especially the ones I really like. But I''m a little...nervous wearing strapless shirts/dresses which dates back a really embarassing incident I had. I''d prefer my wedding dress to have maybe spaghetti straps, just so I feel like I have something holding the dress up, but I might end up with a strapless.

Strapless dresses are the norm these days. However, there are many beautiful dresses with straps, or off the shoulder straps. I think its houstonmedgirl on here that has an amazing off the shoulder dress. I wouldnt choose straps out of fear of it falling off. I think wedding dresses are made to stay up! Saying that I also wouldnt choose strapless because that is what you see the most of. Have some fun and go try on dresses and let us know what you think of what you find!

Yes, make sure it is fitted properly and that you have the right bra to go with it. I think strapless is a great look, but the most important part is that you feel comfortable in your dress. If you are worrying all night about it falling down, sagging, showing too much skin, then it will show. Go with what you KNOW will look good on you and wear it with confidence and grace!

I am wearing a strapless dress. I have worn strapless before so I am used to it. I thought that article would bash strapless more than it did. Perhaps if I was doing professional ballroom dancing I would see her point. I think you should wear whatever cut is the most flattering on you.

I worn a strapless dress, and it stayed up and fitted very well all day. I love love love strapless dresses and tops normally, and sometimes I had to occasionally pull on them to stay up. So that was on the back of my mind when I got my wedding dress, but with the longline bra and dress fitted, there was no problems at all. I think the article about ball gown and evening gown is totally different from a wedding gown because a lot of time women can try on a ball gown in different sizes before buying it, so they can pick the best fit size and not make any alterations on it. With wedding gown, you don''t necessary get to try on the right size and almost always need some kind of alterations, so the fit ends up being more custom for you.

I really appreciate the compliment, but I have to say, I think you might be referring to Appletini''s gorgeous off-the-shoulder gown! :) Mine''s strapless, but I commented on her thread about how fab her dress is!!!

Where can i see your and Appletini''s dresses?

houmedgal's dress is here on page 27 of the "let's post our wedding dresses" thread....fabulous!

OOps, sorry about that. I knew it was one of the gorgeous dresses from texas!

Add me to the strapless dress brigade, and the back of my dress dips to just above my waist. Luckily, I''m pretty small up top and my dress is well boned, so after the dress is finished being altered, it should have no problems staying up. I''ve worn several strapless dresses before, and have danced in them, and I never had any problems. It''s all about what you feel comfortable in . . .

I think that if you are going to be "twirling" like in ballroom dancing, than perhaps strapless is not the best choice.

In terms of choosing between straps vs strapless for a wedding gown, or a non-twirling dancing event, I think you choose what looks best and feels best on you.

I chose a strapless gown for many reasons, one being that most of the dresses to choose from out there are strapless but primarily because I think my gown looks good on me. I have broad shoulders, and really enjoy showing them off (despite my flat chest

I did consider a halter type top, but ended up looking like a body builder (lol!)

Appletini''s dress is elegant and timeless with it''s off the shoulder straps.

Basically, I think you pick a dress that works best for you for the event that you are attending.

Well, my opinion probably isn''t worth much...I''m almost two generations removed from you guys...

But I''m getting bored with all the strapless dresses! They all start looking alike to me!

Am I the only one?

I sort of agree...I see all these wedding pics and everyone''s dresses look the same. I feel myself wanting one though, just because strapless dresses have clean lines and seem like they would look classic 10-20 years from now.

Another thing...not to be mean, but not everyone has the figure to wear strapless on top and lots of times I think other styles would be MUCH more flattering on someone! Strapless are kind of hard to wear unless you have absolutely no pudge that would get squeezed out the top.

Nope. I''ve never been a fan of strapless dresses.....I think they aren''t really flattering on most people, and they end up all looking the same to me.

But, for those who love them.....enjoy them.

i love strapless but not everyone can wear them....sometimes you need straps to balance out or support a big bosom or similar...and sometimes the dresses are too tight or too loose and it doesn''t look appealing either. i love unusual straps on dresses like criss crossed tulle or similar to kind of set it apart from a typical strapped dress...my prom dress when i was a senior in HS was a long red to the floor silk column, and then i had criss cross pearl straps that went down to my lower back. i had it custom made for 1/2 the price of what prom dresses were going for in stores and it was exactly what i wanted!!

I have to say I love the look of strapless gowns. However, I went against the trend when I got married and had an a-line gown with spaghetti straps and a detachable train. I tried on some strapless dresses and they looked great, but I knew it would be a pain in the yin yang for me because I was a 36 B at that point and I really hate seeing a bride yank up her dress all the time if she''s worried about it falling down. My other beef with the strapless styles was that, as others have mentioned, they''re everywhere. My husband and i have made bets a few times on whether the bride will be wearing strapless. I''ve voted strapless each time and won. I just didn''t want people to look at my wedding pics years from now and go, oh that was totally 2000 (like the Victorian styles from the ''80s or the flowy styles with big hats from the ''70s.) Then there''s just the fact that I like to be different, not over the top different, just refreshing different!

Thanks, RMS :)

Mechminx, I think you just have to try on the dresses to see how they feel. And it''s totally personal opinion on whether you like strapless or not. I wasn''t set on a strapless dress, but it just so happens that the dress that felt like "the one" when I put it on was, indeed, strapless. :)

Give a few different kinds of dresses a try...strapless, spaghetti straps, off the shoulder, halter, etc. You''ll get to know what looks best on you and what feels best as well.

When I first started looking at dresses (first place was David''s Bridal online) it seemed like the only dresses I were interested in were strapless. Then when I looked at all the favorites I bookmarked one day I had to ask myself what I was thinking because I look terrible in them (mostly too small upstairs to stay in and then if I can find one I don''t fall out of it just makes me look even more like a pancake). I do think they are very popular right now but I think they are classic too. They look just lovely on many girls and if you are one that can wear one I suspect the fit would be good enough for general dancing purposes. Of course there are alterations too.

She is asking because she needs a dress for her highschool V-day dance (hope you don''t mind Molly) Does anyone have an suggestions on formal dresses that would be right? (she DOES like strapless)

I like halters, criss-cross, and one-shoulder. Strapless should be fine for dancing if it fits right.

I''m wearing strapless. Although I''ve never been married before I have worn strapless formal dresses without any problem, however, I was not blessed in that area so I have no worries of things ''popping out''.

Hello! I love this aqua dress! Where can I find it online? Thanks~ Courtney ([email protected])
