I was recently going through the list of recommended vendors because I am looking for a red garnet around 1 ct to put in a ring that I already own. I went to africagems which had the red red (not pink red) garnets I was looking for. But two things are leaving me confused, the first is that they have a sample picture of what the stone will look like but is not the picture of a the specific gem you'll receive. I think they have a great return policy but is that normal? Also, the prices seemed really low. Like the oval red garnet that is 8 x 6mm is 19 dollars? I am kinda wondering what's wrong with it, if it is less than 20 bucks. I am new to colored stones, I usually buy vintage gemstone jewelry that's already put together. Any help would be lovely.

Red pyrope garnets are not very expensive, and tend to be very dark. He probably has a bunch with calibrated sizes, hence it's not a unique photo.

Thanks for the info. :)

Pictures of the actual stone are expected for one of a kind gems that are at a higher price point. If you are looking for a brighter red, and have a higher budget, you can go for a red spessartite garnet
