@MMtwo , the scarab is topaz - carved in Germany during the Egyptomania fashion of the late 18th century, and didn't sell, so it was returned to the man who carved it. His family still had a bunch of the semi-precious carvings left in the middle of the twentieth century, and our family jeweler bought many of them. I picked it out and the jeweler and I collaborated on a setting for it inspired by ancient Egyptian rings. I wear it virtually every day for decades now.

The same stone cutter/carver did (I think) my carnelian intaglio:
Set in rose gold, designed by the same family jeweler.

Thanks @empliau, it just had the look of a story to go with it. It's a beautiful, special ring, I can see why you love it. The carnelian is also lovely!

The rest of the story:
I am a little superstitious about it – the first day I left the house without it was the unluckiest day possible: Friday the 13th of January, 1984. All the bad juju in one date. I had an unfortunate accident, slipped and slid down a steep hill - I wasn't injured, but tore the seat of my jeans rather thoroughly, and couldn't go home to change. Luckily I had a sweatshirt I could tie around my waist, making me decent if drafty.

Believe it or not, the next four Fridays - I was in a program that did fieldwork on Fridays - I was injured every week. So I will very occasionally wear another RHR, but I never fly without my scarab!

There is so much story. I love the details. Thanks so much for sharing. Your little scarab is so unique and adorable. I love the good luck it bring you too.

I've told this story so many times, but I really do believe the universe is more than random and we should pay attention to our intuition. Honor that belief. Mom and I once were chatting out cats and our old boy who never caught a mouse. Right then he wandered in with a mouse in his mouth and let it go. As God is my witness, this was a joke played on us by the universe...or my Dad in spirit form. In any event, when you start to calculate the timing of an 18 year old cat, that conversation, and that exact timing, you cannot tell me that was random.

My new chrysoprase ring:

(Direct sun, direct sun, open shade)

Some might say that the setting, in 18K yellow and white gold, with baguette diamonds, is a bit much for a chrysoprase. But it's a very clean and glowy chrysoprase. It's from the Yerilla mine, Western Australia, not the more familiar Marlborough, Queensland. There is no reflective back.

It has a lovely glow! The baguettes complement the chrysoprase so well :kiss2:

Gorgeous! It’s your money and your ring… do what you want!
