Suggestions on how to use a 7.4mm OEC!!

Hi guys!

I purchased an OEC from LAD some time back. Unfortunately... I have yet to decide how to set her. Because of this, LAD is still currently holding the stone for me and I have yet to lay eyes on it (I'm located in Australia).

I got bitten by the OEC bug sometime last year and spent months trawling over photos. Then I saw this on her instagram and jumped on it, mainly because I really liked the flowery pattern with the 'thinner' petals rather than the big round ones. I feel I trust Erica when she says it's a nice stone... though I know it's hard to judge these things online! While I've tried to see some OECs in real life, they are few and far between here. Hopefully this one is not a dud!

My initial idea was to set this in a 3 stone trellis setting ring with much smaller side stones (I like the contrast of sizes). Sourcing side stones has proven difficult however... while LAD found me a pair initially, they weren't as well matched as I would like (I am ridiculously colour sensitive). One was sadly a lot whiter than the other and I didn't think I could live with that. While I have approached other vendors to find me a pair of side stones, no one else has gotten back to me...

Given how difficult it has been to find side stones etc, I feel I may have fallen out of love of the idea of a 3 stone ring... The problem is, I don't really know what else to do with the stone!

Can you guys please give me some suggestions on how to use this stone?! Would love to hear any of your ideas!

Here are a few things about me/my jewelry so you have some background:
- Already have a solitaire e-ring and wedding band which is always on my left hand... would not be looking to change or upgrade this ever (sentimental and all that)!
- Currently wear a FI yellow diamond halo ring as RHR which gets changed out with bands now and then. I'm accumulating a whole stack of CVB bands!!
- BGD Barbara pendant with 0.5ct stone is my typical day to day pendant. Also have a rose gold duchess cut pendant coming shortly!
- BGD studs 1.1ctw which are worn as earrings daily


I feel like since I joined pricescope, I've accumulated what jewelry I've been wanting for ages and have pretty much everything that I want... but I still wanted an OEC!! :shifty:

I work in a job where I cannot easily wear rings as I rip gloves on and off 30x a day and wash my hands constantly... yet I do love rings :D I just seem to have a lot of them at the moment and feel like I don't have enough fingers (or days off!) to wear them all reasonably lol!


I would LOVE to hear any thoughts or suggestions any of you may have on what I should do with this stone- I really want her set somehow and in my hands already but I just don't know what to DO with her!!! Please help!!! :)

That's a pretty good idea missy!! I do already have 2 of grace's bangles as well (oops forgot to mention it!) but one is a heart and the other is the trefoil version. I will certainly consider a bangle though I'm not sure it will get as much wear as I want with 2 others in the picture (though I seem to remember these DO stack well)!! :D

Crystal, I think you have just the right number of beautiful pieces and diamonds. I know what you should do with this 7.4 MM OEC...Give it to me! Pretty please! :pray: :appl: :cheeky: :wavey:


JK! How about a Toi Et Moi Ring ring? You would need one additional stone though but not necessarily an OEC. If you check IG there are some great examples of beautiful Toi Et Moi Rings with sapphires or rubies etc. Just another idea. Good luck!

Put two coloured stones you like either side of it - problem solved!!!! I'm a fellow Aussie too btw!!!! :wavey: Be persistent, Adam from OWD has a large stash of stock but you have to phone him rather than email him because he is so busy he just isn't overly responsive to emails. Grace also travels around a lot so you have to keep hassling her but if you do you should be able to find stones eventually that match. You could get someone like Steven Kirsch to put a matching coloured halo around it as another option. It's a beautiful stone!!!
 
I was in a similar situation. I fell in love with a particular OEC, ~8mm. I thought I would put it in a vintage setting platinum which is totally different than what my engagement ring looks like. I will never switch my engagement ring. It is a ring from my husband's family and has much sentimental value. When I received the stone in the vintage setting which I had plenty of time to see prior it just didn't "sing" to me. About the same time Caysie debuted her Astrid halo ring and I fell in love. I loved the brushed finish, the bezel, the halo that doesn't distract from the center stone, etc... it was a perfect compromise. It was funny, but when the stone was in a ring I also felt a little like I was cheating on the ring from my husband's family......I know, wierd! I also have a diamond solitaire pendant that is an ~6mm OMC in an engraved bezel. I love having the 2 options. I have not posted a pic of my CVB pendant because I am horrible taking photos of jewelry but I will give it a try if you are interested in seeing it. Good Luck!
 
three stone! Call Ilya at diamond zone or Adam at OWD. Ask him to find matching sidestones.
 
I knew I could count on fellow priceacopers to come up with some ideas!! I would love to see any and all photos of settings you may think would work!! Caysie doesn't seem to make many pendants- I remember searching on PS and google and didn't come up with much, so lilysweet I would love to see yours!!

Ahh I did email Adam but never heard back. Now I understand why! Grace and Caysie are also aware but again, no luck so far.

I know I said no more rings (indirectly) but the settings are always SO gorgeous! I know this will obviously vary for each setting, but in general, how much leeway is there to place a different sized stone into a given setting? Say something currently holds an 8mm stone... 7.4mm would be way too small... right?
 
I will try to get a few pics of my necklace but I think it is also listed on her Etsy page as the Astrid halo pendant and there are a few better shots somewhere on her instagram and Facebook from around last fall.
