Hello everyone. I am an easy tanner, but I am also proned to freckle (shoulders and such). As much as I love to tan in the sun, my dermatologist just fussed at me and told me I should really consider, and I quote, "spraying it on". So, I am trying that new micro mist sunless tanner from Neutrogena. I wanted to see if any of you have some tips before I try it. I got a scrub to exfoliate first. I have NEVER done this before. Any suggestions or helpful pointers?

Thanks!

I''ve used several tanners and my personal favorite is Ban de Soliel''s Streakguard Foam (not lotion)...I like the way it applies and it doesn''t make my skin orange...very easy to use...

Exfoliation can be as easy as lightly scrubing a clean washcloth or loofah sponge/mitt all over your body while in the shower before putting on the tanner. Or you can buy a simple body scrub (doesn''t have to be expensive at all) and use that in the shower...it''s a very easy process...

Good luck!

I used self tanners for a few years and just couldn''t ever seem to get the application part down. I''m fair skinned and the best I found that the neutragena brand gave me the best and most believable color. Remember when applying to use sparingly around your knees, elbows and ankles. Really anywhere there are creases. Be certain to wash your hands immediately so you don''t get the dreaded orange palms. I have become a Mystic tan junkie since last year. I''m just amazed at the ease of the spray booth and the incredible color. It''s a bit pricey, but lasts on me for around a week. Let us know how it goes!

Thanks, AChiO!!! I am going to try it in the morning. :)
Woo-hoo! Here''s to not being orange!

Thanks, Libster! A good friend of mine swears by the Neutrogena brand and she is olive complected like me. I''ll let ya know how it goes!

The one from Lancome for your legs is awesome. It''s really natural...

i''ve turned into a sun junkie as of late

but would love to find a good sunless tanner.... especially one that works well on the unblendable areas of the upper body. it seems like a spray would work well for that (?) i will be looking forward to hearing of your experience! good luck!

I did the mystic tan once...and I the smell of the stuff sort of bothered me. I have a supersensive nose...and it smelled paintlike to me! Anyone else find that, or should I just try a different place?

I like Neutrogena self-tanning products. The new foam is very good. I find I MUST exfoliate very well to get even color. And to be honest, I usually get a real "base" first and then use the self tanning products to continue it. I get my base on vacation in late May, then use the self-tanners. I go to my mom''s pool every weekend for a few hours to continue the natural base (I do wear SPF 15 too). I am lucky--I have a lot of Italian in me and it seems to manifest in my ability to tan easily. But Neitrogena is not expensive and very nice--nice scent and not heavy, too.

So far I have had NO luck with any sort of selftanning. I turn orange or streak and my favorite was the "great" Mystic tan experience....think Ross only bright orange and stripey.

I am using a tanning bed now for my wedding to get a little oomph of color.

Sunless.com is a great website for self tanning. I have had great results from the people over there. There''s a wealth of information, reviews and message boards.

well??? how does it look? are you tan?

The new body lotions by Jergens and Olay with just a hint of self tanner are fantastic. Just apply like regular lotion, and they give you just a hint of color, no worries about streaking or exfoliating.

I keep hearing about that but it is sold out at both walmarts the target and Rite-Aid and CVS....must work prett well since everyone has bought all of it.

I too was searching for the one by Jergens and came up empty, until I saw one by Coppertone. Same stuff it''s a moisturizer with a hint of self tanner. Just got it today, so I will let you guys know how it works. I did read that Jergens will restock shelves by June 13.

Oooh, those sound interesting!! So--it''s an actual self tanner in the moisturizer and not just a bronzer? I may have to try that. I''ve had a couple of rather orange self-tanning experiences (admittedly in the early 90s and I haven''t tried again since and I KNOW the products are much better now)....so I will eagerly await the report back! My albino self could use the help!!

It''s supposed to be a no brainer, we''ll see. I have a graduation on Tuesday so I''m not going to do it before then, in case it looks awful. I will try it later in the week and report back.

Oh, I saw the commercials for the Jergens...I have to try it!

it''d actually be good for the winter when some of us get so pale--it''d be a nice subtle boost.

It''s very subtle. I don''t think it is possible to mess it up, you barely see any color after one application, but after a week of use you have a nice glow.

Strangely, none of the drugstores around here are sold out. Maybe because I''m in CA, and not as many people need self tanner?

Belle, I do make a point of washing my hands after using it, just to be safe. But I just smear it on my legs like regular lotion, no special exfoliation or care around the ankles and knees like with regular self tanner.

cool! i''m gonna have to check it out! thanks mrsfrk!

I have the Jergens Natural Glow stuff- and it works great! It goes on as smoothly as lotion, so you can really rub it in without worrying about it streaking, and dries almost instantly. When I first got it, I applied it every night for 4 days, and now I am just using it to maintain the color, once or twice a week.

I have gotten compliments on my tanned legs (little do they know). Never had it streak, but it does smell a little bit.

Oh yeah, and they sell one for fair skin and once for medium skin.

I have been searching for the jergen''s natural glow like crazy. Their website said there was a waiting list. My local wal-green''s is supposed to get a shipment tomorrow. So ladies call your pharmacy and ask when they will get some in and they can hold some for you.

Has anybody tried airbrush tanning? I think thats when someone sprays you with the tanner instead of you going in the booth and getting sprayed, right? I was thinking of that for my wedding.

PnP...

I did this a couple of years ago before a trip to Cancun. It comes out VERY even and usually needs a "touch-up" session several days later. It looked natural and they woman who did my airbrushing sold me a special lotion that helped enhance the "tan" and let it last longer...

I would like to try that. How much does it cost approximately and how long does it last?? I went to my pharmacy today and put my name on the list for the Jergens stuff, they said they will get it next week.

I think (if I remember correctly) that the first session (the initial airbrush spray) was about $55 and then the "touch-up" session about 3-5 days later was $20. Then the lotion I bought was about $20 and it helped the tan last about 2 weeks more when used daily (it''s a lotion with the same chemicals as the other sunless lotions to help "enhance" the tan)..

hope this helps!

I do NOT recommend Coppertone. I was an orange freak for 3 whole days on a recent Vegas trip! I''m going to have to try Neutrogena and Jergens. Even though I''m almost 100% Asian (some Dutch ancestry), I cannot tan like most yellow-skinned Asians. I turn from pasty mayonnaise white to hot pink (even with SPF 30+) and then back to mayonnaise white without a hint of a tan. Here''s a picture of me and my recent ''orange'' tan. I''m the one in the salmon tank top. See how my color is different than my daughter''s natural dark tan?

I use banana boat "vitaskin" for exfoliation followed by Neutrogena "Instant bronze" for a quick result. It''s a sunless tanner and bronzer in one. Another reason I like the bronzer is it helps you "see" your way through a more even application.

Good tip about the knees - I''d add ankles to that as well. Yes, always wash your hands after application.

For my face, I use clinque "self sun".

These have worked for me.
