By the way, not to threadjack even more but Violet I have been meaning to tell you how awesome it is that you will be getting married in Carmel! It is so gorgeous there and it is my FI''s favorite place (he always says he wants to buy a house there one day).
----------------

I had to move this to a new thread so we weren''t threadjacking!
Buying a house there would nice but I used to live in Santa Cruz. It gets mighty boring down there unless you like the slow quiet life. It''s pricey too. For anyone visiting the area I highly recommend staying at www.theticklepinkinn.com. The most romantic place ever. The view is spectacular. I''d get married up on that hill if could afford it. The highlands inn is a rip though.

Sunny, where are you getting married and where do you guys live?

Hey violet - way to start a new thread! As for my measurements, I don't remember the exact measurements from my trip to salon a couple months ago (they are written somewhere but too lazy to get up and look). Something like 34-26-36-38? how embarassing to post that on internet! Basically the low hip is definitely the largest measurement. I have however trimmed down a bit since then so maybe a little better overall than before. i dont know - I have to remember that I chose the dress for a reason and it must have looked okay! Or my mom wouldnt have let me get it! There were definitely mermaid style dresses that looked awful on me - especially the sort of gradual soft mermaid (Do you know what I mean?) So there must have been something about the Mila that worked. Also, I think I tried on the Amsale you mentioned and that one looked decent on me too so who knows.

Oh and you dont look hippy at all in your dress - you have the perfect hourglass shape!

As for Carmel, I am pretty sure he means as a second home haha. I told him he better get crackin on that plastic surgery fellowship he is thinking about for the future if he wants that to happen. Prices are ridiculous up there but it is definitely gorgeous. We live in LA area and are getting married in Santa Barbara.

PS I think I gave enough information in this post to make it pretty obvious who I am if anyone I knew were reading. Do you all ever think of that?

For the sake of fairness my measurements are (roughly) 36-29-38. That's about as low as I'll ever get hip-wise. I wear about a 29/30 in jeans (true religion, joe's etc). That probably sounds big since I think the biggest they make is a 31! But I don't personally mind. When I first tried on dresses I refused to try on ANY mermaid style dresses. I was pretty sure I wouldn't be able to get them past my hips. For some reason that dress just worked on my last shopping trip. The other mermaids I tried on wouldn't fit. I tried on a straight fitting Caroline Herrera and another Amsale as well. The Amsale probably worked on you because you have smaller hips!!

I think Haven in her post may have said she'd gained weight or something in those pics (which I don't see AT ALL) and if so she still looks fantastic in it!

My one teensy regret is that I had an appt at a salon in the south bay to try on Melissa Sweet. I didn't know much about the designer though and the place I went to in the city was pretty posh. Plus my friends live up in SF and I wanted them to be there with me when I tried on dresses. The only consolation I have is that I really need the sweetheart neckline of the lian carlo to make the strapless work for me and since the Mila isn't as pronounced it makes me feel somewhat better about my choice. Also my wedding is early in the day outdoors and I'm not much of a poofy dress person. ANd lastly of course I'm betting (hoping) it wouldn't fit on my hips, heh. Anyways, I refuse to go anywhere near where a Mila may be seen or tried on! What's done is done! The cool thing about your choice is that EVERYONE loves Melissa Sweet you should have no trouble at all selling the dress later on. Me on the other hand, I may be stuck with it who knows.

I have a friend dying to move back to Santa Barbara where she's from. She's even married to a doctor... prices are so HIGH though that they have yet to move there. It sucks to buy in California. At least the LA area is cheaper than Silicon Valley. It's awful here price-wise, really awful.

I've done the same thing in posts by the way (given out info). I even posted pics of my face at one point and told my stepmom to check out the post of my new dress so at this point she knows my username (ie dont talk bad about the stepmom!). Most of my friends don't spend time on message boards much less this one so I *think* I'm okay. Although the one thing I did forget was I gave a link out to one of my bridesmaids so no talking bad about bridesmaids either!

You should post pics of yourself in your dress, I'd love to see it! /envy
