A piece of news colored stone aficionados may find relevant. Haven't kept up to date with Pricescope lately so apologies if this has been brought up already.

High CRI LED light bulbs are now available at Home Depot for decent prices. Depending on your zip code the Cree TW series can even be bought for under $10 each in stores. They are nearly as good as incandescent light bulbs in rendering color, run much cooler and use a lot less electricity. They come with a 10 year warranty.

Based on local electricity rates, I save around $9 each year for each 60W incandescent light bulb I switched out, assuming daily usage of around 3 hours. I bought the 60W replacements for less than $8 each so they'll pay for themselves in less than a year. The money saved in subsequent years will be put in a gem fund. :naughty:

And your gems - how do they look like in this new light??

Very much comparable to incandescent light bulbs. Reds and blues are a tiny bit less saturated, but it's more than acceptable to me. Hence the switch!

I had a problem with LED light and green and color change gems - they looked ugly, brownish and the change was weaker.

Mahenge lost the "fluor" a bit and blue stones looked better. I bought many classic bulbs.

I had similar issues with older CFL and LED bulbs with lower CRI ratings too. The new high CRI bulbs are vastly improved. Now I'm looking forward to new high CRI bulbs with GU24 connectors to drop in price so I can replace the kitchen lights as well!
