The following is a link to a shorten transcript of a recent interest item report from a local Boston news station: http://web1.whdh.com/features/articles/specialreport/A374/

It appears that Apollo Diamonds are planning to start selling near colorless diamonds starting just shortly after the new year for the Valentine''s Day market.

However the report did not make it clear regarding the sales channel. It''ll be interesting to see how it is marketed and whether there is sufficient price differences to make it a viable alternative.

I have no idea about where these current developments (artificial diamonds, fancy colors have been around for a while now) may lead and how... But, I am just writing to remind that the story of artificial white diamonds fludding the market is quite old. The oldest account I know dates back in the 60s with wide spread allegations about Russian rough. At the time the story got detailed down to industry reports fresh from Syberia and such. I would really like to hear a good analysis of these new developments compared to what synthetics did to the colored-stone market... Maybe this thread!

Last we heard, the diamonds were itty bitty, like 2 - 3 mm, but we haven't looked in on this development for awhile. We don't think this will have any major effect on the diamond industry as a whole, the reality is that some people will only buy synthetics, others will buy simulants and the majority of people prefer real... When the Yehuda clarity enhanced / fracture filled diamonds hit the market, everybody panicked, it was "the end of the industry" the sky was falling... When Chatham began to sell laboratory grown gems it was the same thing... When L.K. and G.E. began color treating diamonds, everybody ran amuck... This will no doubt be a similar experience, some people will buy them, other's won't, it doesn't matter, it's just one more thing to sell for most stores.
