Tale of a Blue Sapphire

I’ve been saving up some money for about a year now and had a nice amount for a couple of things I wanted. However, oops, my savings is now gone in one fell swoop and in its place is a most beautiful sapphire! :rolleyes2: :kiss2:

I couldn’t stop thinking about it while I tried to convince myself a lighter colored one was for me and more budget friendly. This sapphire will one day be a ring; one of two really nice rings I hope to ever have. I’d love to collect and acquire so many more, but once I get this set and find myself an emerald and set it, I will have completed my cs goals. Because I only want two nice cs rings,I decided to go big or go home. Actually, I was thinking it might be too big at 7mm, but now that I see it, I know we will get along just fine. It’s just beautiful!

It is heat only and comes with an AGL certificate. I plan on setting it in platinum with possibly an Art Deco feel to it, but I’m not sure. I’d love to see ideas if anyone has any.

Thanks for looking. Here it is!

Swarovski snow crystals in the window doing their thing. :P2

Props in pic to help me get the right white balance with my iPhone. Sapphire blue looks as accurate as I can get it since props look spot on.

Your sapphire is so beautiful! Congratulations :)

I’ve realized I’ve made it sound like it’s hugely expensive. :confused2: That was not my intent. My budget was smallish to begin with. My point was to say sometimes it’s worth it to get it right the first time. I hope that’s how it comes through....

Your sapphire is so beautiful! Congratulations :)

Thanks! I’m pleased and am sure this is how everyone feels when she gets her first “big girl” gem.

Beautiful!:appl:

LOVE it! Do you mind sharing where you got it? I'd love to keep it in mind for the future. The color is so pretty and the cut is lovely!

That's really lovely, congrats!

Have a look at Ivy & Rose. They have a website Ivy&Rose.com. They offer a range of Art Deco style settings at very good prices. I couldn’t see any specifically for a 7 mm gem but they do make to measure so if there’s a style you like I’m sure they can make it to fit your lovely sapphire.
I’ve got my eye on a few of their settings for my loose gems. Other PSers have purchased from them and were very happy with the quality and workmanship. Also on eBay but by the name “mydiamondzone”

I look at their site often and see many things I like. Would you say their settings are on par with David Klass’ work?

I don’t think so, though I don’t have either. I think Ivy and Rose is good and a more budget friendly option whereas David Klass is better but you pay more for that higher quality.

Very pretty sapphire! Congrats!

I have setting from both Ivy and Rose and David Klass and would say in my experience that DK's custom settings are higher quality than the stock Ivy and Rose settings. They are both nice though, but since you believe in getting things done right the first time, I would go with David Klass for this stone.

I like Ivy and Rose and would trust them to adjust a stock setting to fit a stone. I would not recommend them for full custom design work. Stick with DK or IDJewelry or another recommended vendor. IDJ can also semi customize some settings.

Beautiful sapphire!
I agree with @rockysalamander for a custom setting I recommend DK or IDJ.

It's a really nice, high quality color and the cut also looks very good.

It is a beautiful shade of blue and in a highly desired round cut. There are so many possibilities when it comes to setting this ring in an art deco setting. I recommend David Klass and I am sure he can create an excellent platinum setting for your sapphire. He made my avatar ring and it is almost 10 grams of platinum yet feels so smooth and comfortable to wear.

He may still have french cut diamonds that can be used in an art deco halo or as sidestones in a three stone ring. Here is an art deco style ring that I think would be amazing with a blue sapphire center stone.

@LisaRN (I hope this tag works....) Do you have any more pictures of the Art Deco ring you posted above? I keep coming back to it. :rolleyes2:

That's a beautiful stone! I'm not good with millimeters; do you have a carat size/weight?

I found a few... Hope it’s ok if I post them! They aren’t the best pictures - I’d love to see this ring outside and/or on the hand.
