Tanzanite too soft for a ring?

Hi I was just wondering if Tanzanite''s hardness is too low to wear as a ring?

Anyone wear a tanzanite ring daily?

I would say that it''s okay for a special occasion ring that will be worn with care, but for everyday... no way.

No, not for a daily wear ring, not even with care. It is a special occasion wear ring only as Pandora said, not just because of its hardness but also because of its thermal sensitivity.

I wear mine as a weekend pendant and always take it off at home.
I don''t get to see it as much but I get many more compliments!

If its not very expensive and you are ok with the stone accumulating damage and eventually need replacing. Then I think its ok to put on a ring if that''s the way you think you will enjoy it most.

I have many Tanzanite rings and wear them. I used to wear one daily.

Yes they''re a soft stone but then so are many others. So long as you take care, don''t get it near water and protect the stone with the setting as much as possible then go for it. Life''s too short not to wear something you think is pretty!

I had two tanzanite rings and both of them got scratched because they were set so the stones were exposed. I don''t have one of them anymore and the other one had to be recut. I have another tanz in a ring now, but the stone is smaller and more protected, so I wear it occasionally, but not for every day.

just be careful with it

Thanks everyone!
That settles that: When I get a tanzanite stone, it will be a pendant.

I wear them in rings but not for every day. I have never had any problems with it.

I agree with LD and Marcy - I don''t wear my tanzanites daily, but I wear them more often than special occasions, and they''re fine. I''m sure there might be some damage if I louped them, but they''re eye-clean to me. I will continue to put tanzanites in rings because I love to see them.

It depends on what you plan to DO with your hands whilst wearing the ring.

I say wear and enjoy beautiful or beloved things. What does it serve for jewelry to sit in a box somewhere (this is just my philosophy but when you starting looking at less time rather than more, you calibrate certain things).
