Rainbowtrout i LOVE your tattoo...it''s FANTASTIC!!!!
6.gif

I find it very classy (especially since its large !) I love it!!!!

I think it is probably my favorite tattoo (that I''ve seen!)

Aw, thanks. It took me a long time to find someone I was comfortable with, and it was custom. I gave her a few different drawings, she poked at my back and then drew something over about a week.

I''d wanted one since I was 10, and I knew I wanted some kind of rose design...rest fell into place pretty naturally. My mom and BF were hesitant until they saw it and now they both love it. My dad still doesn''t understand, but he and my stepmom (whose rose tattoo first made me want a one) actually went with me to the parlor for the consult and the session and such. I think it was the first family/parents coming to the place they had seen!

People always seem shocked that I would have one...so I don''t know what that says about me?

Me too Tawn!!! I look pretty young for my age with that "girl next door" kind of look so people are ALWAYS shocked when they see or find out I have one. Mine is pretty small too and easy to hide but easy to show off if I want.

Athough I have issues with my own tattoos, I think your tattoo is EXTREMELY sexy Rainbow Trout!

I''m an artist with a specialty in anime. I designed my own tattoos and one isn''t finished. I can''t afford to have it finished yet and my artist is nowhere to be found anymore. Here is the part that I''m waiting to have done. It is supposed to go above the leaf-work tattoo and she is to have large wings added.

Don''t have one. Don''t want one. Don''t like needles. Don''t want anything permanent anywhere on my body. I have pierced ears but at least I''m not stuck with the same earrings for the rest of my life.
I''m the same as Pearcrazy. Perhaps I''m boring, but I just like skin, although have seen some lovely discrete and pretty tattoos on friends, so I''m not against them, just not on me.

my husband is getting one done right now as I speak. It will be a bass fish. He''s really into fishing now.
He also has 3 others, all pretty small. I want to get one but am too afraid! I''ve heard they are very painful. I want a flaming meteor (sounds wierd, I know). I have yet to see anyone with one of those!

I''ve got 2 right now, a black sideways butterfly on the inside of my right ankle (not very noticeable as it''s on the inside, lots of people forget I have it). It''s def not that great...I wish I''d have thought of the fact that the butterfly would look like a black blob from far away if I didnt get any color added to it. It''s not bad though, I dont want it removed, I just wish I''d realized that. I have a 2 flower design on the small of my back just under my jeans line. I was debating getting it there or on the back of my waist where alot of women get theirs and I decided lower was better b/c when I''m in my 50''s I wont be wearing the low rider jeans and string bikinis that I wear now...and even with ultra low jeans only about half is visible. I''ll post pics when I get some bateries for my camera.

I''m thinking about getting a 3rd on my hip, but i havent decided yet. It''d have to be small, so that if it streteched out, I could have work done on it to fix it, which would ultimately make it a little larger. I love tattoos, on me they look better more discretely placed but on others they look great out where everyone can see--it''s all a matter of style and personal preference. FI on the other hand hates tattoos, doesnt even like them on other people, but doesn''t mind them on me (but still doesnt like them haha)

There was a question about getting a tattoo tattooed over and you can definately do that, and have it come out well, the only thing is that it will likely be quite a bit larger and takes a really skilled artist to do it, I''d really reasearch it out and even "interview" artists before going into that.

I love these aphisi!! Esp the neck one, that''s great!!

No way I would never get a tattoo! I don''t mind them on other people though...

I want to be buried in a Jewish cemetary and if they find one of those--ain''t gonna happen.

If I think about getting one though I bet I would get something small in Hindi, my favorite langauge.

When I speak it I feel so close to the beginning of the world-weird and I can''t explain it!

I just want to say ...

Don''t come near me with any kind of needle!!! Hands raised and shouting loudly .... AAAWWwwww!!!

I have seen a few tattoos that I actually thought were pretty, not for me though.

My Dad was a Navy Career man ... when he was very young, him and the guys would go get drunk when they were on leave, and then get some really "interesting" things put on their bodies! My dad would never ever be able to be buried in a Jewish Cemetary ... good thing he''s not Jewish!

Working in the medical field, I must say ... A women should never ever get one on her breast! I am not kidding ... that thing called gravity does happen!!! I remember I was trying to help a mom get her new baby to breast feed, she was about 42 ... and of course to break the ice (I was so young and naive!
20.gif
) I commented on her pretty eagle ... Ooops! She very quickly corrected me and let me know "It was a butterfly!" Well it sure didn''t look like no butterfly to me, and I am sure when she is in her 60''s it''s gonna look like a vulture or something scary!
39.gif

ok ... I gotta go ... I can feel the pain ... and I am cringing with fear! Yes, I know ... I am such a lil'' scaredy cat!

Have fun though!

I believe the governor of Iowa (at the time, back in 1986) presented the award to her. I sure do wish I could meet her. Her name is Eenie and she lives in California now. That is all I know.

WOw Singer ...

Your story is so incredible! You definately have an angel over you!
12.gif

It would be something to be able to meet her. Have you tried contacting the mayor of the city that gave the award out? I think I would try the city mayor, or the govenor of the state of which issued it, and let them know after all of these years if they could see if she would be interested in meeting you, and you could give them permission to give her your name, addy and possibly a tele #.

Thanks for sharing your story. Have a wonderful week!

Wow, Singer, you went through quite an experience! I am so glad that kind lady was there. Mrs Joy has some great advice, I would definitely look into contacting the mayor.

As far as tattoos, this thread really reminded me how much I''ve always wanted one. So, I talked my FI about it and I think he''s going to pay for me to get one as an early B-day present. I just hope I don''t chicken out. I tend to get really nervous with things like that (like getting my navel pierced) and laugh at myself when its over.

Caribou, mine is about the size of a half dollar, I was trying to turn around to see what size it was, and totally pulled something.
20.gif
I think I''m getting old. I still love my tattoo, and the detail in it was awesome. It didin''t hurt at all, doing it on the fatty side of my back. Now, the foot???
23.gif
Ow!!

I love my sunflower and have never once regretted it (the freaky looking tattoo dude did a fabulous job on it). I got my lady bug a few months after I got my sunflower (24 years old) and I have to say....the lady bug hurt like all get out! My sunflower didn''t at all, although I''m thinking because there''s more detail in the sunflower that the area went a little number. My lady bug is about the sice of a nickle..it was done free hand and it looks like a big ol'' mole.
20.gif
Oh well.

I''m sorry that you pulled something.
32.gif
I know all too well what it''s like to get old...it stinks.

Just my opinion....but I don''t like tattoos

It''s graffety on the skin. There''s nothing worse than seeing a beautiful women, in a lovely femine dress, with a tattoo on her arm.

I''m all in favour of the temporary kind, that wash off after so many days!

Blod

Mrs. Darlin Joy,
Thank you for the good advice! The only thing is that she now lives in California. I just don''t think they would have that information, or would they? My mom tried to track her down when I was in junior high, and she was unable to find her. She has probably gotten married and changed her name, so I think it will be somewhat difficult.
7.gif
I''ll look into that though, hopefully something will turn up. I would be ecstatic!!!
36.gif

I started getting my tats when I "should know better" as many people told me- at age 23. My first is gothic band around my upper left arm. Couple of years later I have a gothic raven on my back. For he past couple of years, Ian and I have been plotting going together to have some more work done. I''m having my Libra zodiac and pentagram done on the back of my neck. I also want the same infinity knot that my grandfather has, but I don''t know where yet and my dad''s intials on my wrist. Of course my mom keeps asking, "you''re going to cover those for the wedding, right?"

The pain isn''t bad at all. Getting my piercings hurt more than the tattoos. With tattos it''s the unreal itching that starts when they start healing! I certainly agree with not getting one on your chest if your female. If I did, at my size, it would be at my hip by age 60.

I have a yellow and orange Sun (without a face) as close to my left ankle as one can get. I didn''t want something floating in the middle of my leg - It looks better anchored closer to my foot. Hurt like he11 too because the closer the needle is to hitting bone, the more painful it will be. That''s why getting a tattoo on the breast or buttock is less painful because of the fatty tissue.

Boy is this appropriate. I am addicted to gems so I got my first tattoo in Japan and it''s of a little guy with a magnifying glass and a bunch of gemstones lying around. I had found it in a Rock & Gem magazine. My second is just above my hiney and it''s a buterfly.

Ladies, I just want to get some opinions now. I'm so excited.
5.gif

I want something sort of like this
sm20.jpg

Or maybe this, but without a face and smaller
smf16.jpg

Or maybe something like this?
sun-and-moon-tattoo-1123644106881.jpg

Any opinions or suggestions?

LOVE LOVE LOVE Number 2!!

Xchick, the one on top looks like the sun I have on my lower back, especially the flames around it. I really like that one!

I have two tattoos, the one on my back (I was 19), and a palm tree on my hip bone (I was 18). One of these days I''ll get one more, probably a quarter-sized monarch butterfly.

I don''t really worry about my tattoos stretching out with age...I figure no one has to see them, so who cares?! I remember when I got mine and my mother got really upset with me--I told her, well, if I ever turn up missing, you can tell the authorities I have two identifying marks on my body, lol! She definitely didn''t think that was funny.
35.gif

monarch, I''m not really worried about the age issue either. I plan on getting it on my lower back and who''s going to see that after I''m old anyway.

I''m so torn, I just found a tribal sun/moon design I really like too. Right now, I am leaning towards a combination of the first and second, but I am not sure I want something that intricate, which is why I really like this one.

XChick, I really like the last one you posted. It''s simple, but also interesting. Hey, wanna talk about regretable tattoos? My MOM got her first tattoo last year on her 60th birthday!! And it''s on her ankle, and get this: It''s a freakin'' hot pink pig with WINGS. I almsot smacked her.

XChick, I like that last one you posted a lot. It's simple, and I can't see anything about it that'd be regrettable.

I've always kinda wanted a little something...tiny, though. Like the size of an M&M or smaller. A little heart or a ladybug. Who knows? I just might get one. A TEENY TINY one.

My mom got a tattoo when I was 15, right after my parents got divorced. She got it as a symbol of her new independence. It''s a really pretty rose on her ankle. After she got it, she repretted it though. So imagine my surprise when she got another tattoo of a dolphin on her shoulder.

Thanks, I really like that last one too. I love how simple it is. I think i am going with something like that.

"Well it sure didn''t look like no butterfly to me, and I am sure when she is in her 60''s it''s gonna look like a vulture or something scary!" ~ Mrs Darlin Joy

Too funny! One of my patients works as a radiologic tech and takes mammograms. She was telling me one time about all different breast tattoos that she''s seen and what they''d morphed into over time.
23.gif
She also had a story about a young woman sent by her doctor for a mammogram to check out a lump who refused to take out her nipple rings for the x-ray. As it turned out the nipple ring had caused the infection that made the lump in the first place.

I guess there are pros and cons to both piercings and tattoos. Piercings aren''t permanent but they can cause serious infections. I''ve seen many tongue piercings come into my office through the years and I warn them every time of the risk of broken teeth and infections. One young man we sent straight to the emergency room as his tongue piercing had infected and swelled his tongue to the point that we were worried about his airway becoming obstructed.

I''m just a wimp with piercings and tattoos. I had my ears double pierced in the 80''s and I couldn''t even handle that. I let the second hole grow over only 6 months after I did it.

A biohazard sign (it''s a career thing) above one ankle and the black and red tribal heart in the small of my back (see below, mine is the top drawing)

flash8.jpg

Oh, I love that! I''ve never seen a tribal band with a heart before, very unique.
36.gif

I have a very small black one on my upper left errr, ummmm bottom LOL... So you can't see it in clothes or a bathing suit...It's too stupid to identify...got it when I turned 21 (about 11 years ago)...And I plan on having it turned into a black cat with my scotty's name below it when he passes (which sadly, will probably be within the next year...he's that special! :) Still, you won't ever be able to see it which is what I like..

I have 3. First one is of a dragon peeking through clouds, size is about 8" x 5" on my back where my right shoulder blade is located. Second one is my last name and "Trunks" the purple hair guy from Dragonball Z series on my lower back on the left side. Everything is in black except for his hair, which is purple.

The last one is the number 23 is Chinese characters on my left hand, located right at the joint area that connects my thumb to my hand. That one is in baby blue and slightly less than an inch long.

If I can go back and do it all over again, I''d probably only get one large dragon on my back.
