The LIW Small Talk Thread

oh, sometimes i just hate technology.

Freke--I hear you on the name thing. SO ANNOYING. My favorite is when you''re like "Hi, my name is Liz Snuffalufagus" and they''re like "Oh, hi Snuffalufagus!" WTF.

Sunny, glad everything got worked out with your cruise.

Elle, adorable halloween costume!

Good Morning

LOL--Freke and I have almost the exact same name, actually. It''s kind of hilarious.

no two first names here, but my name is incredibly manly. thats what you get for being named after your dad!

Oh my yes. I can't stand that!

WL, yeah she's a member of the two first names club. In fact, LP and I are almost-name-twins.

ETA: Oh, I see she already responded. That's what I get for not reading ahead.

And I got ONE RSVP! Yay!!!!!! And new undies. That always makes me happy. Plus my bra looks pretty. Can't beat that!

I am need of new undies. or at least cute ones. i feel like all i have is granny panties right now.

VS baby! I always hit up the 5 for $25, buy ten pairs and I''m set for about a year. (FI seems to think that''s overkill since I have an exploding undie drawer, but WHATEVER.)

Hey I''m in that club TOO! I was supposed to come out with a P instead of a V but my Mom was too lazy to change my middle name so it''s a boy name.

Freke - Oooh la la!

Morning, ladies!

Well it''s your lucky day because I''m a fashion junky. What are you going for? Casual? Dressy? Relaxed? Nude?

P.S. Also, can I somehow magically drop 10 pounds by Saturday? LOL--probably not.

LOL--K actually already suggested the last one, but I think not.

I''m thinking sort of dressy casual? I have some cute sundresses, but it''s November so I don''t know that they are totally appropriate, you know?

Oh, and also it is supposed to rain. Great.

Poll time:

What''s on your Thanksgiving menu besides turkey? I''m making a list now, and hoping that I''m not leaving anything out. Here''s what''s on so far...

turkey
stuffing
mashed potatoes
gravy
sweet potatoes w/ brown sugar & pecans
cranberry sauce
green beans
corn
bread or dinner rolls of some kind
pumpkin pie
apple pie

What''s missing from the "standard" menu, and what do you have that''s awesome that I am not thinking of?

Rain makes for some good shots though!

Um...What is K wearing?

(I have to start thinking about this because we''re having like a practice shoot a few days before the wedding since our package came with an e-pics shoot. So the Thursday before, we''re gonna have to dress up and go get our pictures taken. I''m really looking forward to it because we have next to no pictures of us together, but I have no idea what to wear!)

Are you doing outdoor pics?

I think it could be cute to incorporate umbrellas.

I do kind of like this idea--we were thinking of doing pictures in the woods as well as some downtown and I think the rain would be very us. Hmmmm....

Dude, you''re missing an exclamation point. It''s supposed to rain. Great! You can get some of those adorable under the umbrella shots. Just get a bright umbrella and you''re golden (rubber ducky yellow umbrellas make CUTE pictures).

I''d definitely say heels - do you have leather boots? With K''s height, you need something. I''d do at least two outfits - a dressy-casual jeans outfit (maybe a black or white wrap top, jeans, and boots? Or maybe just fun coloured heels) and a dressy outfit (dress for you, nice pants and a button down for K). I don''t think you''d ever regret having the fancier shots taken, but having something a little more casual is nice, too.

My menu (when I''m cooking):
Turkey
Apple and onion stuffing
Mashed potatoes
an abundance of gravy (my dad loves the stuff)
Caramelized sweet potatoes (I''m sorry, but I think mashed sweet potatoes with marshmallows is gross.
15.gif
Unless, and this is the chef in me, the marshmallows are made by hand, in which case, why would you waste them on sweet potatoes?!)
Blanched and sauteed green beans with red bell peppers
Green salad
Cranberry sauce
Rolls
Pumpkin pie with whipped cream
Pecan pie

My menu if I was cooking for just FI and I this year:
Stone ground mustard and pepper rubbed pork tenderloin stuffed with maple syrup sauteed apples
Mashed butternut squash
Blanched and sauteed green beans and red bell pepper
Pumpkin pie

My SIL''s menu:
Turkey (SIL''s FI)
Cherry basted ham (SIL''s FI)
Rolls (brown and serve)
Cranberry sauce (canned)
Mashed potatoes (all me)
Gravy (All me)
Caramelized sweet potatoes (I have to contribute this)
Mac and cheese (SIL''s FI is in charge of that)
Collard greens (SIL''s FI has this one too)
Corn (from a can)

Um. It just occurred to me that she doesn''t actually do much in the way of cooking for Thanksgiving...

Really though, I should just make it for everyone, since I went to school for it and all. We''re having our turkey day at my cousin''s this year I think, so she''s in charge, which means my dad will be irritated since she serves greatly reduced chicken stock as gravy (which doesn''t thicken without a roux, DUH!), and my dad (as I said above) is a insane about gravy. So maybe I''ll make some gravy for him on the side, and then I''ll give the leftovers to my dogs...

My usual menu:

Turkey

roasted garlic mashed potatoes
sweet potatoes with ginger & lime
cucumber/tomato salad
orange glazed carrots
cranberry orange relish
rosemarry dinner rolls
either asparagus or brussel sprouts in lemon juice
corn with chile butter
pumpkin pie
sweet potato pie
pecan pie
apple pie

MK - Two thumbs up on the umbrella idea!

See, at real Thanksgiving (with the fam) my gma and all of the aunts take over, and I''m lucky if I get to mash potatoes. Because I have this overpowering urge to cook it myself, I host what we call "Fakesgiving" every year, and invite friends over the week before for a feast. Doing some menu planning now, because it''s easier to spread the grocery shopping out over a couple of weeks.

I like your blanched & sauteed green beans with red bell pepper. Much nicer than the plain-jane steamed green beans I was planning on. Salad is good, too...don''t know how I forgot that!

Ooh. Cranberry-orange relish sounds great!
