The LIW Small Talk Thread

Hmmm...BG that makes me want to clean at least my bedroom at moms house. Gggrrr

Too- No, you dont want to trade. The high today is suppose to be 112 i believe, and we have a heat advisory warning until sunday.

I work at a funeral home, selling pre-arrangements. So i pretty much sell life insurance. It doesnt pay well at all, but i stay becasue there no other jobs, and because i get to help people in a great time of need. I am going back to school for Theatre and Special Education and ive deicde a minor is Classical Studies, such as Latin and Anciet Greek.

Thats cool about being the go to person for everything. Do you have freedom at your job?

No freedom. It is just me and the two guys I work for (65+, and 72+ years old). Neither cares for technology so I have to deal with paper stuff a lot more than I should be doing. (we have most stuff on the computer but they insist on paper copies too). Regulations in the industry stink and make things take a lot longer than they should. Audits are no fun (we've had two so far this year).
The older guy is VERY set in his routine and hates having anything out of order so I don't really get to take any of my 2 weeks vacation (last year I used 1 day) and calling in sick is a pain (I called to let them know I wouldn't be in -- what with taking FI to the emergency room -- and he actually had to check his calendar and say that he didn't know if it would work with his schedule :rolleyes: ). I guess that is the worst part. If it weren't for his routine I'd have a very flexible schedule and it would be pretty okay. (he's been on vacation for the last 6 weeks :bigsmile: )
Other than that, the pay sucks, "raises" are crazy ($20 more per month last year), and since I am an Independent Contractor I have no insurance and have to pay the "business" taxes too.

I've always had mixed feelings about funerals. I love planning stuff and I've always liked the pretty wooden caskets with fluffy lining and polished handles, lots of flowers, pretty music... But then it is so sad because a funeral means someone is dead and the family is missing them. For a while I thought I wanted to grow up to be a funeral planner.

What do you want to do after school?
 
Jessie: sounds good for a Friday. My plan for the rest of the day after teaching. I'll take a nice bath (maybe do my toes and nails too), cook dinner, bf comes over right after work, watch tv and cuddle.

Too: I'm a piano teacher. You must be so busy since you have to do everything! What do you want to do after you graduated?
 
o wow. Yeah, that sucks. I am so sorry hon, i know what its like working with old man, i work with 2 71 year olds and stuck in their ways is a understatement.

Yes, funerals are sad, but its apart of life. Before i was afraid of death, and still am to a point, but not so much anymore. I now know its a cycle and everyone has to complete the cycle. ( you tend to do a lot of soul seraching for the truth about the after life working in a funeral home)

I really dont know what i want to do after school. I was thinking of just doing the usual going to be a teacher rountine, but im trying to find something else. My dream job is being a Actor, but i live in the real world and have real bills and cant drop everything to purse my dream. I wish i had the guts like some of my freinds have and do that. But than again, a lot of them are in their late 20's early 30's, living with roomates, not in successful relationships, running to La for auditions, working as waiters and other jobs. I cant do that, as much as i love acting, adn know the work that goes into it, i just cant run blindly into something. I was doing commericals, auditions, indepents films, lots of classes, meeting with small time directors, it kind of all changed when i met my SO. I asked myself, could i live a normal life, and act int he community on the side without the fame and fortune and crazy life. The answer to that was obivously yes. I will admit though, God forbid something happens and im not with my SO and i have my degree, i probably will go running to LA never to look back, or possibly go out and study anciet civilations. As much as i love acting, i cant imagine not having a family, settling down and possibly having kids. Yes the money is nice, and doing big films has got to be so exciting, and wonderul, and everything, but to what costs? Is selling your soul worth it? Ive been asking myself this a lot lately since i have been contacted for some things, i keep thinking of maybe staying in a smaller market as far as that goes. Granted my SO supports me, but i dont want the crazy, people are following me around everywhere, we cant eat in piece, i have to have bodygaurds. Maybe im thinking too deeply about it. I dunno some days.
 
I'm actually not terribly busy most of the time and I'm only here 4 days. (different for the summer when the one guy is gone)

Once stuff is filed, it is pretty quiet. Well, except for tax season (expecially Feb-April) & end of the year stuff (Nov-Dec). Oh -- and audits make it REALLY busy.

After school? I really don't know. I'm thinking software engineer. FI thinks I'd like robotics so I might look into that. The university I'll be transferring to in a couple of years has a master's program that focuses on robotics and stuff so that might be a possibility.
My dream job (what I'd do if money wasn't an issue): caterer or restaurant owner/chef.


Jessie -- how about teaching theatre? You'd get to teach & be involved with theatre stuff while getting a regular paycheck.

just a random thought....

I'm just watching a SPCA commerical. I'm a big sucker for animals. It's so sad looking at those animals looking at me on tv. I really did start doing the monthly donation because I have a soft heart. Ever since BB went through that painful foot injury, I feel like I should do something for the animals who have no owners to help them. At least with BB, she is lucky that I can afford to give her the best treatment. I'm like tearing up... maybe PMS ... :shock:
 
Okay, about those commericals...i believe there should be a warning before, cuz " Tilly" caught me off guard one day and i balled my eyes out for 15 minutes about it. I hate animal cruetly, and those commericals kill....Tilly looks so sad...o BG, now im crying. Espically after trying to understand Time Travel, with Physics, and 10 dimmensions...i need something sweet now. Poor Tilly, Poor 2 Dimmensoinal peope

Shabbat dinner just after sundown tonight. Reading and relaxing tomorrow. FI probably has to work Sunday

My mom and her husband are flying to Hawaii tomorrow morning for 10 days on Maui -- pinapple plantation, good food, snorkling, snuba, zip lines...


Big week for my family this last week:

My Great-great-aunt won the senior (over 50) spelling bee as the oldest participant (age 98) and was on the front page of the newspaper. :appl:

My grandma got hit by a truck :o
Just found out about an hour ago (it happened 2 days ago). Apparently she was trying to get the dog out of the driveway and grandpa didn't see her. He started to back a bit faster and she put her arm out to stop the truck. :errrr: Well, it knocked her on her backside and she hit her head on the stair railing on the way down. The dog got rolled along with the wheel. Grandma screamed as she fell so Grandpa stopped the truck and neighbors went running to help.
The dog is fine. Grandma just has a bump on her head.
WHY DIDN'T SOMEONE TELL ME 2 DAYS AGO???? :angryfire:



Gotta go for the night. Maybe back Sunday. :wavey:

OMG. I'm glad your grandma just got a bump on her head. When you said she got hit by a truck, my heart stopped. Hope she'll feel better soon! :wavey:

My bf had to work at my place all weekend. We went out for his b-day dinner on Sat though. My mom came back yesterday and she bought me lots of stuff. :bigsmile: Didn't really do much again but my bf told me he won't propose next sat on our anniversary because it won't be a surprise then. He told me he'll propose by the end of Sept. GOOD NEWS!!!

How's your weekend girls?
 
awwww.....well im glad you know its by sept, but it will a complete surpise now.

Our weekend was boring....we just stayed at home. We went swimming twice this weekend and cuddle in the pool. Our dog jumped in the pool after a bird this weekend. No ring here though.

Let's see...
Dinner Friday was yummy. Saturday FI and I talked, read, sat in the sun, played with the dog, took a long nap, finished the pudding, and watched a movie (after sundown). Sunday we went to the rifle range then worked in the yard and made a pizza.
 
it seems like everyone had a relaxing weekend.
Almost forgot, we watch ""Our Family Wedding" and cuddle. I thought it will get him into a "wedding" mode. He didn't like the movie. I think it's kinda boring too. HAHA He said the movie is depressing and makes him not want to get married. LOL OPPS!

awwww....Too...that sounds so nice.We have a Lasha Apso and a Poodle....the poodle jumped in the pool

LoL....my boyfreind let the cat out of the bag about the balcony to our friend. Damnit, he cant let the cat out of the bag about when he proposes...lol...
 
its funny because my SO mentioned weddings this weekend on the tv and stuff.
 
can you talk to him about a timeline? So that you know around when it will be coming?
 
I havent talked to him about it this year. He told me last year it would be by the end of this year. Hmmm, i dont want to ask too much because knowing him, he will feel like im pressuring him.BUT if he doesnt ask by thanksgiving this year, i will so be on his butt, like white on rice :twisted:

Mostly relaxing.

I found out about a shooting on the news this morning. Took place in a park just a few miles down the road from us. Usually a pretty safe place. 2 dead, 4 wounded

It looks like the people involved were related to gangs somehow and were from a different city having a picnic in the park. Not too many details still but a few new things sinc this New story.

Started as a fist fight. Grew to some number of fistfights (one-on-one & two-on-two mostly). Some guy had the brilliant ( :rolleyes: :rolleyes: -- note sarcasim) idea of firing his gun into the air to break up the fights and a bunch of the other people pulled out their guns and started shooting.

Hopefully he asks LONG before Thanksgiving and you can enjoy your holidays with a happy-sparkly hand.
 
awwwww... Thanks Too. Im hoping so too, we have a few trips planned before that time so maybe on one of those.

O wow. That shooting sounds scary. Its scary how people can just pull out a gun and shoot someone. A lot of the time, its by standers who get hurt. *SMH* :nono:

Luckily the 2 who died were part of the gang related groups who were shooting at each other. (I'm not saying it is good they died, just that it is less sad when it is one of the gang people and not a child/mother/father/innocent-person just trying to enjoy a day at the lake)

I'm not sure about the other 4 though. (pretty sure they aren't all gang people)

So cute. I love dogs. And cats.

We've got a 70 pound "puppy" (12 years old but still full of energy and thinks she needs to sit in laps). Not sure exactly what she is. Rotweiler & something? Lab & something?
 
8sigh* thats still just bad. The SO has a theory, round up some gang memeber, do a public killing, say by hanging or something(HeHe, im laughing in my head, becasue he ill go on this rant about it) and than round up all the gang memeber, put them on a island, and than put sharks around the island. He firgures since they cant contribute anything to society, that they shouldnt be part of it. I feel the same way in a way, but if they can and wil change, they should allows to be reintroduced into society. SO feels that they cant and should be left on the island and ahve to try and live there. :nono: . SO and their rants.

Awwwww, thats so sweet. Dogs are toddlers that never grow up. Wow...70lbs....i cant do big dogs...espically if they can stand on their hind legs and be as tall as me. Its good she has a lot of energy....it means shes healthy, AND its cute she likes to sit in laps. LoL..i dont know how you do it, but more power to you. :appl:
