The LIW Small Talk Thread

I agree. Still bad. I'm always sad when someone dies. (or gets hurt)

FI has a similar idea -- send all of the gang people to an empty island and let them live there. They can take whatever they want (including their guns/knives/etc) but aren't allowed to leave the island and no one else is allowed on. His idea is that they'd either kill each other and there wouldn't be any more gang problems or they'd learn to be polite and productive.

LOL

Yeah. SO's have some pretty strange rants some days.

Okay, sounds like you SO would get along good with mine. LoL....
I try not to get my SO started on certain rants, and Dear Lord, i hate when someone else does by accident. :nono:

Sentra doesn't really jump up much any more. She's been trained pretty well that it isn't okay to jump up to greet people.

Most of her "lap sitting" is done with hind legs on the floor and front half of her body on a person on the couch now. She used to climb up and actually sit across people (which really was an interesting experience). She'll still sit on you if you sit on the floor with her.

I think living her life with cats left her with some strange habits. The only other dogs she's really been around were little (15 pounds or less).

She gets the saddest look when the cats sit on our laps. Just sitting next to us and getting lots of petting isn't good enough. She's got to get really close. Not the most comfortable thing, but she just looks so happy.

Morning. :wavey:

See you ladies tomorrow. :wavey:

Morning Ladies....
I hope everyone has a good day :wavey:

Hi ladies!

I have something I need to confess.

I bought a wedding magazine yesterday when I was at Costco with my mom. BAD!!!! I'm not even engaged!

BG...thats not bad, i have bought one or two before. Just dont let the SO see them, and we dont even know what your talking about. :Up_to_something:

O, i like costco.....i love how they have HUGE bags of ruits and veggies. LoL....sorry thinking about food and smoothies.

So BG, can i ask your opinion. I have a friend, and we use to be very close, but she had another baby, and i pulled away. Shes a hot mess. She texted me the other day, inviting me to her birthday party this friday at a club. I really dont want to go for a few reasons, such as, she is a mother of 4 and i disagree with her party all the time, and leaving her children at home with her EX-Hubby. She also is way over tattooed, and i ahve nothing against them, but she is almost covered. 2. I dont know this club, and its a lingera party, so half dressed. 3 My SO cant go because he has to wrok Friday Night and Saturday Morning. 4. my Ex will be there( they are still friends) and i cant stand him. What would you say. I mean, i feel bad, because we use to be close, but now, i dont even know who she is.

well... obviously you don't want to go. Can you make something up? I know you're used to be friends with her. If you don't feel comfortable hanging out with her, you won't have a good time when you're there anyways. You don't want her to feel that you're having a good time. That would be weird.

Just make up something nicely. A good excuse.

Thanks, i just hate when people try to make you feel bad for not wanting to go to something ya know, and thats her. *sigh*

Thanks for the advice, and which bridal magazine did you get. Its funny cuz yesturday work was so slow, i was looking online at our favorite casino's wedding chapel and the prices and stuff. HeHe, i made a little dream folder yesturday. Were there good ideas in it for flowers and stuff?

So are you teaching today?

I got Weddingbells. It's a BC wedding magazine. That's good because if I see something I like, I can get them here. I told my bf I got the wedding magazine. He doesn't seem to be that shocked. He thinks it's very normal. I have been flipping through the pictures. There are some dresses that I kinda like. I'm going to read it more thoroughly and mark the pages for my bf to look at.

Teaching at 3:30pm today.

My other friend is going to LV in Aug. She was very very shocked that it's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hot there now. She thought it was some jokes. LOL

O thats cool. HeHe.....hmmmm, im glad you got a local one for you.

O yes, its not jokes. It was 133 over the weekend for the overall city, but some neighborhoods say 115( mine!)...Today the high is only 111....than in winter we get down to 23 or 20.....tell her to come in fall its perfect! LoL...

I think she's still going to go since she only has time off during the summer. I told my bf I want to go to LV during our Thanksgiving long weekend, which is mid Oct for us. I guess the weather should be alright then? I want to go to the outlet malls, watch shows and go to the M & M factory. heehee

I didn't plan to get a local magazine. That's the only one they have. Usually the american one has better stuff and then I'll be frustrated 'cuz I can't find the stuff I like here. :nono: I buy Cosmo at Costco every month. They're 25% cheaper than other places. Do you read Cosmo?

Hey Bg....Mid Oct is prety good. Its starting to cool off, but not cold. Actually October and Nov are my favorite months.

Yes, i sometimes read cosmo, and ia gree with ti being cheaper. *sigh* work sucked today, and super tired. Blah

I'm sorry about work! Relax!!! it's bed time.

how are things with your mom?

She has now decided to talk to me after almost 2.5 weeks of silence. O well...

So you teaching today?

o and BTW.....Morning Ladies :wavey:

Morning :wavey:

Jessie -- congratulations/sorry about your mom talking to you again. Maybe she'll be nice for awhile...
Don't feel bad about not going to the b-day party. You don't owe her anything and it sounds like you've drifted apart. It happens.

BG -- Wedding magazine  . I signed up at theknot.com before we were engaged  . Wedding stuff is so much fun  , why wait? What sort of wedding do you picture? (big, small, indoor, outdoor...)

Jessie: congrats on your mom too. I'm teaching today. Just a few students. I'm going shopping with my mom tonight.

Too: I don't know what kind of wedding I want yet. We're going to a garden on Sat to see if we like to have our wedding ceremony there. I'm so excited...on our anniversary we're looking at venues. I kinda picked a date. I want something with an unique number, like Nov 20, 2011. 11 20 20 11. Got it? It's on a Sunday too! However, it's going to be too cold and rainy for an outdoor wedding. I kinda want an indoor wedding. I'm annoying!

Thanks Too, Thanks Bg

Too- Have you decided what type you two are going to be doing, or what it was like

Bg- Girl, please stop, You are not annoying, your excited, and its understandable. Nothing wrong with changing your mind.

Started with wanting 100 or so guests in an outdoor local park... shifted to the same 100 or so at a local winerly.... then to 20 or so at some pretty (unknown) destination......

The venue FI REALLY likes is a winery that is about 2 hours from here. I've talked with them and they seem like a pretty good possibility (still have a bit more to look at budget wise before we settle on them). We'd do the ceremony outdoors overlooking the Columbia River then probably do an indoor reception in their large room with lots of windows overlooking the river. Start at 6:00 would have sunset/nighttime reception with candles. Vegetarian dinner with wine pairings. FI in tailcoat/ascott. Me in ???. Colors are navy blue and purple. My bouqet and FI's bout. (I think) will be bombay orchids.

the venue
bombay dendrobiums

Too- your venue is just magically. I can totally see what you say about having a sunset/eveing wedding than reception. That is enough to take your breath away. I love the Orchids, very pretty. O wow, about 100 people. thats a lot. My sister had 125...and it just seemed like a lot to me. I really love your venue, i cant stop drooling over it.

Too: that sounds wonderful. When is the wedding date? Is everything pretty much planned?

I'm going to have 2 banquets. We'll have the ceremony and a banquet here in Canada because my bf's family and friends are here. However, since most of my family is in HK. My dad wants another banquet there.

I have a problem. My bf's mom doesn't get along with her family (my bf's dad's side). That means either his mom or his dad's family will come. (I think) His mom is very nice to me and everything. Sometimes I'm scared that once I'm a family member, she'll hate me. LOL. My bf said.. his mom has a weird personality, she's just nice to me because I'm not like a family member. If this make any sense.

Thanks. We went there for my b-day this year (he proposed there on my b-day before going to dinner). The food is amazing and the chef creates menus of whatever you want (his chocolate cake....  .... and the hazlenut cheesecake...) and the wine is just yummy (we tried lots -- had a private barrel tasting -- and I didn't find any I didn't like).

The BIG concern is that it may be too far for people to go. I've heard mixed feelings from people on this. (It would be about a 2 hour drive for everyone) We're trying to get rooms down to $100 for guests but it may be a bit more.

With this place, we'd stick to 80 guests. (the minimum of their package)

My idea of perfection would be:
80 guests show up and check into their rooms then spend the afternoon soaking in their tubs, swimming in the pool, hiking, going to the spa, or joining us for a wine tasting. Then the ceremony looking out over the river on a clear 70ish degree day followed by a delicious meal with nice wine looking out at the sunset. Then music & dancing & fun. Brunch the next day.
We want a beautiful, fun day that everyone can relax and enjoy and be a happy memory for us and our guests.

ETA: I know there will be people who can't or don't want to stay and others who would prefer meat and kids who will (without a doubt) spill/break/tear something, flowers that wilt.....
But as long as we are together and everyone has a nice time -- that is perfection.

BG -- 08/21/2011 (next summer), not all planned we know the venue we want (and are trying to get), colors are picked, general ideas after that. Most things change from week to week. (dress especially, bm's or no bm's?, chocolate or vanilla cake? Raspberry or fudge filling? Professional photographer or students?.......)

2 banquets sounds like a lot of fun & a lot of work. Family challenges are always interesting to deal with. Toss in a wedding and well....

Bg...dont worry. His mom might be crazy but your marrying him, not her. If she doesnt like you, than she doesnt like.

Too- Your wedding is my birthday. LoL...thats so cool. That sounds like a dream. I love weddings like that. Yes, a 2 hour drive is a big thing. But youd be surpised how many people are willing to make the drive

I know with the SO and I, we will have A LOT of out of town guest. At least half if not more will be out of town guests. So dont be surpised if people are more than willing to make the 2 hours drive for you.

Morning Ladies :wavey:

Morning :wavey:

Morning Too....

How did you sleep last night? Good sleep here, bad morning. Ya know what i learned. Check the date on every thing in my moms house, just because its in there, doesnt mean its good. Oatmeal isnt very nice on the tummy when its old.

Old oatmeal

Slept well enough but not nearly long enough. (11:30-4:00). I had homework to finish up for math (due today) and worked on that yesterday afternoon/evening/night until I couldn't make sense of it anymore then got up early so I'd have another 45 minutes to work on it before class. (I didn't put it off, it was just a difficult assignment :knockout: )

Even the dog next door who barks all night can't wake me up when I've worn myself out like that.

Speaking of expired foods....
FI and I drove to CA to help his mother move a couple of summers ago. I boxed the stuff left in the kitchen and was horrified at what I found:

open salad dressing expired 2 years earlier -- and served with dinner the night before
frozen meat -- who knew what -- with sell by dates from 5-10 years earlier (kind of grayish & fuzzy...)
canned soups -- expiration dates (lots of them) 1960's-1970's
dry spices -- use by dates back to the 1950s
pre-beaten eggs -- left on un-airconditioned CA countertop for about 3 hours then re-refridgerated despite being weeks past the use by (mmmm.... -- what a great breakfast that made combined with some of the above mentioned frozen meat :knockout: )

Any plans for the weekend?

BG -- sounds like you've got a nice evening to look forward to Saturday. :))
