I covered this a month ago - but what the NYT lost was the effect on high quality diamonds - that there will be fewer profitable mines - e.g. Argyle would never have go off the ground when we have $400 a carat 1ct +G VS man made diamonds. Mark my words - within a decade we will.

I just watched a GIA webinar on gem treatments. They started with a simple argument: 99% of ruby sapphire and emeralds are treated. If everyone demanded the 1% that are naturally good enough as mined - then there would be no mines and no gems. So what dos this have to do with Natural and man...
