The Official TTC Thread!

Festy - very restrained of you not to go looking for a substitute. It sucks that DH wasn''t there, and hopefully your body is just faking you out with the O pains. If not, it''s great that you ovulated at a perfect time and knew when it happened, so you''ll be all set for next month.

DD - I''m not sure about multiples, just cause my betas are on the lowish side even for a singleton. I did have two follicles rupture though, and the IUI timing was good, so who the hell knows. Maybe they were just later implanters (though that might not be good, cause I just read a journal article that said miscarriage rates go up for implantations after day 10). Oh well - all I care about is that they keep going up like they should at this point. Woke up to more bleeding this morning, so I''m sure I''ll be heading in for another beta tomorrow. And I won''t be showing up at work looking for an assignment tomorrow! Hopefully I''ll have a better idea which way things are going by tomorrow afternoon when I look up the bloodwork, and can sort out what to do with my Wed call shift by then.

I suppose I''d better quit researching bleeding in pregnancy and surfing the web and get on with some homework. I spent all of yesterday chilling out, now it''s time to get cracking (from my nice leather recliner, that is :) ).

Welcome Cello! Our first month we tried not temping and just kinda letting things happen naturally, but I found myself monitoring my cm so much that it was like we were only bding when intentionally trying anyway, so I gave up on that and just started temping to confirm what I thought my body was telling me. I sometimes wish I could be more nonchalant about it (dh really doesn''t like bding when he feels like the only reason we are doing it is because I think I''m ovulating) but it just didn''t work for us. I hope you have better luck with taking it casually!

Festy, sorry that you think you are missing your window this month. At least you will be getting a clear picture of your monthly cycle to be even more prepared for next month!

Drk, you''re still in my thoughts. The numbers are promising, so my best advice is to try to relax and just let nature take it''s course, whatever that may be.

9dpo here, and I think I''m getting the beginning signs of AFF =(. I''m not really spotting yet, but I *think* I''m starting to get some slightly brown cm, which to me is a sure sign of AFF. These last few days of the 2ww are killers!

I have to buy a thermometer and I don''t know what type to buy. I have seen a digital basal body temp thermometer.. will this be ok? I can''t read the old mercury ones.

What does AFF and 2ww mean?

Thank you!
1.gif

Maisie - how exciting!

I have a digital basal body thermometer, and it''s definitely ok. AFF = Aunt F''ing Flo (menses). 2ww = the 2 week wait between ovulation and testing/expected AFF. Since 2ww is a bit of a misnomer - the average length of time is 2 weeks, but individually for women it''s often at least a day shorter/longer - the 2ww is also referred to as the KC (knitting club) here.

Fishie - yay for ovulation! Is today''s temp high as well?

DRK - good luck!

I really like this thermometer, but it sounds like the one you have can work. This one stores my last temp, which is nice on the weekends when I go back to sleep after temping. Also, you can press a button to get it to light up, so I can read my temp in the dark.

Thank you for the explanations. I need a post it note with all the info on it!

I have ordered my thermometer. I am so excited!!! I just hope I''m not the last one sitting here still trying to conceive! I can just see it now.. Me sitting talking to myself while I wait and hope!!

Don''t worry Maisie, there will always be new people joining.

I get SO jealous of the people here who get a BFP, but I''m also really happy for them.

It will seem hard I guess when people move across to the pregnant ps''ers thread. Maybe I will be the one explaining all the abbreviations to the new ladies coming over. I had better take notice just in case.
9.gif

Maisie (and all other newbies),

Here are a few other abbreviations you'll see a lot around here:

CM-cervical mucus
CF-cervical fluid (this is the same as CM, and they're used interchangably)
BD-baby dancing (intercourse)
DTD-doing the deed (intercourse)
CD-Cycle day (day of the menstrual cycle you're in)
O-ovulation
DPO-days past ovulation
TWW-two week wait (waiting for period to show up)
AFF-aunt flippin flo (period)
AF-aunt flo
FRER-first response early response pregnancy test
EWCM-eggwhite cervical mucus (if you have any questions about what constitutes this, Fertility friend has a great description).
EW-eggwhite (see above)
OPK-ovulation predictors
Sticky-hoping a newly pregnant woman’s baby sticks in there and goes full-term
RE-Reproductive Endocrinologist (specialist)
DH-dear husband
EOD-every other day (doing the deed)
TTC-trying to conceive
FF-fertility friend (website)
POAS-pee on a stick (pregnancy test)
KTFU-knocked the flip up (preggo)
BFP-big fat positive pregnancy test
BFN-big fat negative pregnancy test

There is a longer, more inclusive post (WAY BACK) on this thread with abbreviations, but this is the shortened version of what tends to be stated the most often around here.

Hope that helps!

Thats brilliant! Thank you Fisher!!!

Hey Blen,

I just love it when the preggos come back to check on us. It''s sweet, and since you''ve been there, you''re like mentors. Especially those of you who gathered so much information during the time you were TTCing. I rely that (probably too much and I should look up more for myself!).

My temp today was still in the 98 range. I think I definitely ovulated.

****

Something really interesting happened last night that really has put me in state of mind of being at peace about becoming pregnant. It''s hard to describe, and I''m not sure that I could articulate it right if I tried, but I''m really happy and excited and just at peace about it. Contentment. It''s a great feeling. I don''t know when I''ll be a mother, but it will come. I feel like I can let go of the anxiety, at any rate.

Haha. Not sure if I''ll still feel this way if I''m not preggo soon, but for now, it''s great to have that peace.

****
Sabine,

Are you the next to test?

Hoping good thoughts for you!!

Its lovely to hear you have peace about things Fisher. All I can feel at the minute is excitement and trepidation!! I hope you are pregnant soon!

Aww, Peony,

Just saw your new icon. How cute that is!!! Was it an engagement picture?

Thanks Fisher! Yeah, it was an e-pic. A little cheesy, but I couldn't find much else where our heads were close enough together that you could actually see both of us. I don't like how it's disorted/pixelated though. I even cropped it to 96X96 pixels, as advised. I'll ask the admins about that. Here's the original pic, if anyone cares. :)

Congrats on Oing. I WISH that I could be as zen as you about the timing. I'm taking the MCATS in April, final exams in May, and then I have interviews starting in Sept. It would be SO ideal for us to have a due date in early summer (our earliest at this point would be July 7th). Then I'd get a full year to be home with the kiddo before I start school. Plus, I found our that I'm basically getting laid off in April (the professor I work for is switching unis, and I'm not going to move to another state to follow him). So come May, what am I going to do with myself?
39.gif

Anyway, trying not to think about the timing issue so much these days! I have an o-chem midterm tomorrow so I'm just at home studying, checking in on PS on occasion. I am going to make sure to get lots of sleep tonight since implantation could happen this week.

Welcome Maisie! Good luck! You''ll never be the only one left. There are always new people joining in!

Ebree, yay for your peak reading!

Sabine, I''m not big on surprises, so it really doesn''t bother me that I''ll kind of know it''s coming. Actually, remembering how much I dislike surprises, maybe we will find out the sex when I''m pregnant.

Peony, I think you''re supposed to eat the pineapple core spread out over the 1-5dpo. I really like your new avatar!

Fisher, it really sounds like you O''d earlier this time!

Welcome, Cello!

DrK, your betas sound really promising! I''m still sending good vibes your way.

Festy, thanks for asking about the wedding shoot! It was sooo much fun! I think we worked very well together and the photographer asked if I''d be interested in doing more! Yay! This was her last one of the season, but she''s got a bunch next year. She''s going to make me a disc of the images I shot and at some point in the near future she''s going to teach me a bit about hwo she edits in Photoshop. I definitely have a lot to learn as far as shooting and editing goes, but I think I got some really cool shots. That''s too funny about not running out and finding some sperm. That sucks that you missed the window though
7.gif
.

My temp dipped a bit today. Could be an implantation dip (I''m at 8dpo) or it could just be the dip that I get almost every month. I''ve been feeling kind of yucky for the past few days, kind of nauseous and dizzy on and off throughout the day. I''m telling myself that it''s my cold, which it probably is, but who knows. 2 days until testing!

Robbie, after reading your post I grabbed the pineapple that DH just bought, cut it up, and downed a bunch of it! The core was very tough and fibrous, but hey I want a baby!
3.gif
I''m at 5DPO right now.

So are you testing at 10DPO? I can''t decide whether to do it at 12DPO or another time. I think I''d like to do it on a weekend day, which would be 11 or 12. I just think it would be awful to be surprised at work by my period. I''d rather find out ahead of time at home.

Peony, I''m testing at 10dpo, but really expecting a bfn no matter what''s going on. I just think it''ll soften the blow of seeing one at 12dpo which is a month to the day of my miscarriage. How long is your normal LP? Do you usually get a dip before AFF shows up? My average LP is 11 days, so i won''t test again until 12 dpo and then only if my temp hasn''t dropped.

Hey Robbie,

I have a 14-15 day LP, and I get a dip 1-2 days before I get my period. So I guess I could know from the dip. Hmm, I think I might do it on Sat the 25th, which is 11DPO. I have the ones from early-pregnancy-tests which aren't supposed to be that good, but I liked their ovulation strips.

Good luck to you!! I don't think there's anything wrong with testing early, especially if you have a lot of cheap tests. Then again it can drag out the disappointment, as it did for me last month. By the way, did you ever consult your doctor about your early miscarriage last time? It was so early it did seem pretty straightforward and unfortunately common, but I was just curious.

BTW, is 3982 your birthday, or did you just like the number? :)

LOL...Peony you and Ebree are two of the "originals" who've been here with me since I started this thread last year. I realize we haven't been trying for a year (we were gaining knowlege first), but you two along with myself have been here since the early days!

BTW - adorable avatar!

I had made an appointment for my first prenatal visit, but miscarried before the appointment came around. The practice was really great though (Lysser recommended them) and I had betas drawn to make sure that everything was taking care of itself. My betas were so low that I didn''t need to be seen. My birthday is actually 3/29/83. 3982 was the last 4 digits of my first phone number. Apparently DH never thought about it too hard, and since they''re so close, he thought for the longest time that I used them because they were my birthday even though he''s always known when my birthday is. I guess he never really thought about it in numbers before, LOL
3.gif
. He was born in 82 and is constantly thinking that I was too. I have to scold him and tell him it''s not nice to age me before my time

Haha, that's funny! I thought that we were about a year apart, but we're less than a month apart. I'm 3/2/83. I graduated college in 2004, and I'm guessing you were in 2005? My DH is 7/7/79. He was born in the 70s, hahah! It was cool when it was his birthday on 7/7/07 though.

When did you get married? My date was 6/10/08.

P.S. I'm glad you like your ob/gyn. How cool that someone here was able to rec them, and that they were actually covered under your insurance.

Peony, wow, our birthdays are so close! My DH is a July baby too! His bday is the 18th. I actually graduated in December 2004. Peony actually recommended the group, not the actual doctor, but it seems like the whole group is really awesome.

Oh duh, I see your date! You got married 3 months after me.

Oh, woops, I missed the wedding date question. Actually, if you got married 6/10/08, I got married 9 months before you since I got married on 9/8/07.

In TTC news, my chart is no longer looking pretty

Does the drop in temp mean that your period is going to start Robbie?

Awe, Robbie, I think you''re still okay!

Haha about the born in the 70s thing. I was born at the VERY end of Novemeber in 1979, and I hate that I was born in the 70s, when it''s really so much closer to the 1980s. Aw well, maybe if I ever say that to someone some day ("Hey, I''m a product of the 70s"), they''ll think I''m incredibly young for my age.

***
Robbie, sometimes when you have those odd temps (with the white circles over them), it can make the chart look a little off. I''m hoping that''s what it is.

***
Are any of us TTCers from Georgia? I''m looking into choosing the group that we''ll work with during our pregnancy and so far, the best option looks like Femina Women''s Healthcare Specialists. They are contracted with the hospital that''s known for great prenatal care and follow up care, and the group has two midwives, compared to the others I''ve looked at that only have one, sometimes part time.

Robbie, that''s great that you had a referral from here!

My friend at work is preggo, but she''s fine with having the baby at the local hospital and I want a birthing center, so I have to find a Dr. who''s not TOO far away who is also contracted for the hospital I want to deliver in.

***
Today is 7 DPO. I official really think (haha. officially think. that''s funny) that I did ovulate a full 6 days early this time. Yay! Today''s temp is 98.24. Whoo whoo!

I have one of those coupons that someone sweet here told us about from the FRER website, but I''ve not purchased them yet because I''m confident that I can wait until a respectible time to test. Well, rather, I''m not confident that I can, so I''m waiting to buy them until it has been enough time.

***
In other news, didn''t I tell you that my college friends get pregnant in groups? This one is a doosey!! We have S. preggo with number 3, M. preggo with number 2, R. (my best friend) was preggo with number three, but lost the baby
7.gif
, and I just found out last night that K. is pregnant with her first.

Still hoping to join this baby bubble!!

***
Maisie,

Did you find at thermometer yet? The best placed I found that carries them without running out (at least around here) is Walgreen''s.

***
Sabine,

How bout you, have you decided to wait it out til Wednesday, or are you testing early?

***
Ebree,

How was your weekend? Do you temp? Did you get an increase in temps., to match your OPK?
9.gif

Last cycle, my post DPO temps were in the mid/highish 98s. This cycle, they''ve been a lot lower, I wonder if that''s normal. Fluctuation from cycle to cycle.

Oh wait, my coverline is also lower this cycle, too.

So I guess it''s fine.

Nevermind that post.
9.gif

Maisie, a drop can signify that AFF is coming, and for me it does when it happens from 11dpo on, but it''s too early too mean that for me right now. Just in case my LP is messed up from my miscarriage last month though I''m wearing a liner. Even though it doesn''t mean AFF is on the way just yet, it also most likely means that yesterday''s dip wasn''t an implantation dip (your temp should only dip for one day to be considered an implantation dip). I know that doesn''t really mean anything, since non pregnancy charts can have implantation dips and pregnancy ones can lack them, but I got a little excited thinking that''s what it might have been.

Fisher, the open circle yesterday is because I temped early, but I think the temp was actually spot on. I went back to bed and temped at my regular time and got the same thing. I marked it as the first time though in case waking up messed with the second one. If it had messed with it though, theoretically, it should''ve made it higher than what it should be, not lower. Your temps can definitely run higher or lower each cycle. This cycle mine are a bit higher than normal (but they were pre-O as well).
