The Official TTC Thread!

Hello ladies!!! I hope February is exciting for many girls as well!!! I''m on CD 5 and plan to do the Robutissin route, Preseed, OPKS with my monitor, and just pray I ovulate this cycle. My HSG is scheduled for Tuesday and boy am I nervous. While my OB prescribed me with Clomid, I''m going to wait until next cycle to take it. I want to make sure to get all of the testing out of the way before starting anything new. I''ve made the mistake of reading about HSG''s online and I wish I didn''t. If anyone went through it, please let me know it''s okay. I''ve heard that if your tubes are blocked, then it''s painful. ARGH!!!! I''ll definitely report back the findings in case anyone else has to do it.

I myself won''t be one of those with phantom pregnancy symptoms...I don''t want to jinx anything and get my hopes up. I think I''ll be a silent TTCer...hee hee! I don''t like the pressure of people waiting for me to POAS!!!

Fisher -- my biggest prayers are for you this cycle. You''ve been here as everyone''s cheerleader, and frankly, it''s your turn!

Laila -- are you out there???

Good to see HOU and the rest. Bliss, you are such a joy to have on here. I can genuinely feel you jumping out of your computer screen everytime we get another BFP!

Maybe I will keep my symptoms to myself this cycle as well. A lot of good it did me last cycle talking about my symptoms. I will also be using pre-seed. I might give the instead cups a whirl. Have any of you girls tired eating the core of a pineapple the day after ovulation?

HAHAHAHAHA good luck with that ladies! You saw how "easy" it was for me to keep it quiet, LOL!

:) I prob won''t be able to stay quiet either!

Hi Lanie! Good luck with the HSG! It didn't hurt too badly for me, but my tubes are open. The doctor said it can really be uncomfortable if the tubes are blocked because it's a lot of pressure with the dye and nowhere for it to go. Take some ibuprofen beforehand if you're worried.

By the way, do you watch Guiliana and Bill at all on Style channel? She just had an HSG on the show because she and Bill are having trouble TTC.

HMG and Bliss - ok, that''s really freaky that you guys are totally synchronized.

AllieLuv - what''s this about eating the core of the pineapple? what is that supposed to do?

Helps with implantation.

Is it pineapple juice or the core? I think Pandora mentioned juice...I bet it would be the same thing, but I''d prefer juice!

Laila -- Hey!!!
35.gif
glad to hear it didn''t hurt too much. Which was the most uncomfortable part? I love that show! I haven''t seen that episode but I remember seeing a preview for it. She also mentioned in another episode that Bill''s swimmers were slow or something to that effect. How embarrassing! Side note -- We actually want to name our daughter Giuliana. It''s a family name on DH''s side. But I''m wondering if people will not know how to pronounce it...but good thing Giuliana Depandi is more famous now, so she can help us with marketing of the name!

It''s the core of a fresh pineapple. You''re supposed to cut it into fifths and eat one a day for 5 days after ovulation.

Hi Lanie! No need to worry about the HSG. I thought it was very easy. After it was done, I recall saying something to the technician, like "wow, that was easy!" I asked to see what the catheter looked like beforehand because I was curious. Everyone in the room laughed because I guess the girl before me didn't want to know anything about anything. Everyone is different! Anyway, to answer your question, the hardest part for me was the speculum. After that it was very easy, seriously. There was some very minor cramp-like sensation, but I just exhaled deeply and was not phased by it at all.

Oh, mine was performed at an X-ray type of place. A nurse (from my RE's office) put the catheter in. Once everything was in place, the radiologist or technician (I have no idea) came in to view the dye going through on the screen. I was able to watch too. It was pretty neat!

There was also another nurse and a med student in the room. Oh, and you are lying flat on a table. That's all I can remember. Try not to worry about it. Chances are it will be uneventful!

P.S. I have stopped reading what random women on the internet say. I think that often patients may only hear part of what they are told, or remember things incorrectly, and then report this information as facts. It leads to a lot of unnecessary concern. That's how I'm feeling today, anyway. I am having a D&C on Friday. My DH asked me if I was worried. I said, "not at all." I really haven't read much about it, other than what I've read on PS, and I do think I am better off for it. Hmm, I guess I don't consider PS-ers to be random internet women because I am always willing to listen to what they have to say!

I think we are generally an educated and thoughtful group here, so in that sense, I do consider the information on here to be more reliable than what I might find on random sites. I hope that makes sense. Clearly, I have a tendency to ramble at times.

Yes something about the bromeline (sp?) in the core of the pineapple is supposed to break down some enzyme that aids in the implantation of the egg. You can get bromeline in a supplement, I''ve seen them at GNC.

Sorry I have been MIA for the past couple days, but work has been a bit nutty...

HH, Bliss, and Fisher: Thanks for the interpretations on my crazy cycles. Unfortunately, it hasn''t gotten much better. Fertility Friend has moved my O date from day 13, to day 15, to now day 19. Ugh, this is annoying.
11.gif
Why can''t I just have predicatable/normal cycles...Let''s just hope its only the first month (or two) off birth control.

****

Anywho, I wanted to wish the ladies GFG in February the best of luck! I hope to hear lots of happy stories in the coming weeks
9.gif

Hey Fisher! I hope that this is your month!

So wanna hear something funny--my fertile period is exactly the "loins" and "thighs" days you mentioned. I guess we''ll see if the almanac is right:-)
2.gif

I am exhausted right now and really hope that doesn''t mess up my ovulation. Thank goodness our best days are this weekend and the start of next week b/c I am too tired to think about BD right now. We''re going to try tonight, but unless I get a second wind I need the sleep more!

I''m going to start taking Mucinex today through next Tuesday and that''s it. I''m saving OPKs for my next cycle (the fertile period of which will still be in Feb

so I get 2 chances to go for the gold in Feb--I''m really hoping one works out! I realized if we get knocked up this weekend I''ll be due 2 weeks after my brother''s wedding--anyone know what would happen if we drove to Charlottsville, VA from NYC 2 weeks before my due date? I guess if that''s the situation I''ll just check with my insurance company...

Best wishes to you all. I''m going to try and be chill again and just see what happens I don''t want any imaginary symptoms

Charger!! Hi, you! Hope you''re doing well. How far along are you? And thanks for the thoughts; means the world to us!

I have a feeling many, many great things are in store for us TTCers this year. Yes indeed.
9.gif

Thanks for all the support that''s found here. You girls mean a lot to me. I''m excited to see when each of us gets our baby!

Ooh, and Bella, I''m thinking I may ovulate around the loin/thigh time, too. Hard to tell with me, but if the past couple months have started a trend, I''m thinkin.... I don''t hold much faith in signs at all, but I thought I''d share it here since it''s pretty funny and my friend was serious as all get out about holding your cattle off til the signs are in the loins before you breed them. I figured it may be worth sharing here (even if for just a chuckle!!).

I try not to get excited about when I''ll ovulate, just in case it slips to a later day. Haha.... I really do think the chiro (and perhaps the slightly less stressed I have been in the past few months) has helped with encouraging an earlier ovulation.

HSG--- I was terrified. Like totally anxiety-ridden over the procedure. I''d had a uterine/cervical biopsy just days before and it hurt *so* badly, but it was *so* brief, so I was totally expecting BIG pain. It was unpleasant having the tube put in, but that was all.... just unpleasant. Felt much like having a trans-vaginal ultrasound.... weird, uncomfortable. There is a balloon type thing they pump up once they have the tube (catheter) in place and that is a weird, tight sensation. I didn''t like that and I gasped, although it didn''t necessarily hurt. The dye first going in was a bit of a stabbing pain, but it''s NOT long lived at all. A second... just one jab and that was it. The doctor said I would have experienced a more drawn out stabbing pain if the dye had no where to go and my tubes were blocked. I can understand how someone with blocked tubes would have a lot of pain from the procedure, for sure. For my test, I had to lie down on a flat table, with my hips elevated with a few towels, to get the uterus positioned right. There was a tech and the dr. in the room, both female (thank God!!), and they explained everything to me. They have a big machine with a rubbery "drape" that hangs down that they pull over the table and put down almost onto your body, then they show you on the screen as the dye is filling in.... that was really interesting. You should absolutely watch the screen while they do the procedure!! Text books show the fallopian tubes as these big, thick, only slightly curved tubes, but they''re thin as a hair, and some curl and twist around (one of my was pretty straight, a few curves, and one almost does a cork-screw---the Dr. said that''s totally normal and common---who knew???). Anyway, pain factor was minimal. Maybe a 4 when they put in the speculum, I didn''t really feel the catheter until they pumped the balloon thingy up... that was a 6, but a *brief* six, it came and left fast. And that was all there was to it. Now the biopsy, that was at least a seven (although also *very* brief).

Good luck to you; try really hard not to stress if you''re tense, it will hurt more. I amazingly felt comfortable with the Dr. (who I''d never met) and was relatively relaxed).

Fingers crossed for all of our Feb crew. We are in the BD marathon, but I am having a difficult time telling the difference between CM and uh... you know, my hubby''s stuff. I''m not used to this confusion! The neurotic-ness that accompanies TTC has gotten me, I think. I used to love the fact that my cycles were long when I was stressed, but TTC is a new mindset
3.gif
Who knows when O will happen; don''t suspect I''ll be able to tell grr. Might have to consider OPKs at some point. Really though, this is my easiest rotation of the year by far (only 10 hour days!) so I''d rather just get knocked up now.
3.gif

go ice go
9.gif
BD marathons are fun, but super exhausting!

Ice, you crack me up with the telling the diff between CF and um...DH F:-)

OPKs-So I broke down and bought a pack today even though I think I am going to use them later in the month and trust the almanac and CF for this weekend
2.gif
But, I was thinking...it''s a 20 of Answer OPKs it says they are viable for 30 days after opening the canister. Do you think they''d still be good for 35 days? If so I can use a few now and save the rest for the end of the month...

(I;m schedule to ovulate this weekend or Monday and then again the very last couple days of the month...)

Hey Bella! I am not sure about that answer. The OPT that I bought from the internet come in their own foil wrappers and have an expiration date. Do all of the sticks come in one container for the pack that you bought? I have been using them because I really want to pinpoint when I O. I haven''t had my surge yet!

Mine are all in one canister-I haven''t opened it yet b/c it says they are only good for 30 days after opening the canister so I don''t know if they are individually wrapped. I think we''re just going to wing it now (and cross our fingers for the almanac--that is cracking me up
3.gif
) and I''ll use them at the end of the month...but I''m not sure. I cna''t imagine they''ll be inaccurate just a few days later--usually drug companies have a buffer zone after the recommended time...

Hey Bella...were do you go to see if my loins are going to be fertile during this weekend?

Heehee. I love learning about all of these interesting facts and methodologies on this thread!

Can I ask you ladies a question? This is my first time charting with temps. It sure is fun! But I''m confused about one anomaly in my personal situation. DH wakes up 2-3 hours earlier than I do. (I sleep in!) Should I temp then (have him stick a thermometer in my mouth while I''m sleeping, haha) or temp when I actually get up? He still wakes me up by getting out of bed, no matter how stealthily he does it.
28.gif

When I have tested my temps then, they are surprisingly low. When I temp later when I usually get up, they''re higher and I''m been charting with those temps. Sigh. Sorry for the info overload! I''m just trying to see if I ovulate in my first cycle after the m/c.

dust dust dust!!!

3.gif
Disclaimer, I am too lazy to temp
3.gif

that being said, I have the same issue of DH getting up way before me. For the week I did temp, everything I read said there shouldn''t be a noticeable diff as long as you haven''t gotten up. If yours does seem diff I would just pick one and stick with it. It''s all relative, just measuring a pattern, so as long as you are consistent with one you should be able to see what''s going on on your chart.

Good luck!!!

Bella, thanks!!! Heehee! I was too lazy to temp, too! I only started this cycle because I figured all bets were off and the cycle would be crazy! I''m very curious to see what my chart will look like!

Do you all have BBT thermometers? I got the one Consumer Reports said was best (digi) but I don''t think it''s a BBT. Which one should I order? I wonder if most people just use a really good digi?

So many questions!
35.gif
I''ll be sure to share my wonky chart once I complete it!

Hey Bliss,

I am the Queen of the Wonky Charts. Fertility Friend has changed my O day for the fourth time this month, and its only CD23. Big
29.gif

Anywho, as far as temping goes, I am by no means an expert, as this is only my first time charting my BBT, but I have discovered a few things that might help you. I find that I ususally get up around 4:30 or 5:00 through the help of my sometimes annoying kitty or to use the rest room. My usual wake up time is about 7:15. So, I was not sure whether I should temp myself at my early morning wake-up or when I get up for real. Most places say you should a) take your temp at the same time everyday and b) take your temp after at least 3 solid hours of sleep. Not knowing which was better and what the effect of a midnight temp versus less "solid" hours of sleep would make, I actually temped both when I woke up pre-dawn hours and again at my normal waking temp.

What I learned was my temperature would only adjust about 0.2 degrees Farenheit from the pre-dawn to the post-dawn temp. And, based on a couple later temperatures takings (the weekend), I believe that the general trend is that you get "hotter" the later you temp.

So, in your case, I think it''s your call. If your husband is cool with sticking the thermometer in your mouth for a minute and taking it out after, AND your thermometer has a digital memory (BIG bonus), then have him do that. If he won''t do it consistently, then just temp yourself when you get up later in the morning. Either way though, just stay consistent and use the same timed temperature the whole month (ie no one day early and one day late).

As to you second question about what kind of thermometer, you need to get a Basal Body Thermometer to be more accurate, especially if you have a very small temperature shift. They are really easy to find and both CVS and Target make their own brand, each for less than $10. I have the CVS brand one and it works just fine. Plus, having the last temperature memory is key, so that I don''t have to write my temp down right away, but rather can note it when I am more coherent

Target has a really good BBT thermometer. It''s their own brand. You can also try Walgreens or CVS version. Look for it to specifically say BBT.

dcgator, thanks! I think I will join your reign as Queen of the Wonky Charts!
19.gif
Oh man, I can't wait for FF to start changing my O day around! Do you have corresponding EWCF? Oh boy, I just know that's what I'm in for! We are both charting for the first time! Hooray! Thanks for helping me! The temp memory is key, thank you! With the last one I had, I was forgetting all the time! LOL

I think I need a new thermometer - maybe I will buy a BBT thermometer today. My schedule is like yours except instead of a kitty, I have an early rising DH! I wish your cat could stick the thermometer in your mouth! I'm going to see how it works with DH sticking it in my mouth in the mornings while I'm barely groggy. If it freaks me out too much, I'll just do it myself later when I wake up fully! It is definitely colder the deeper I am in REM sleep!

LAILA, thanks!!! I am going to scope out the BBT thermometers!!!! I will look for one at a Walgreens or CVS!
36.gif
Thanks!

Thanks to all, ladies! DUST

LV and Laila -- thanks for the info. LV, I can''t even begin to imagine the D&C. What a difficult time. You sound really positive...I would hope I''d have the same attitude if I were in your shoes. Thanks for writing all of that.

Bliss -- I second the Walgreen''s BBT thermometer. I gave up temping since I didn''t see a shift, but will start again if I go on Clomid. You are one lucky girl if your DH would stick a thermometer in your mouth for you. Mine would laugh if I asked him.

DO NOT GET THE CVS BRAND BBT. It sucks.

Lanie, thanks! I will get the Walgreens BBT thermometer! There's one near me, I think! Hahahaha on DH sticking the thermometer in my mouth while I'm sleeping! I'm sure he's going to laugh, too!!! I'm sure it will be loads of fun for him to pry my jaws apart to get it in! LOL. He keeps waking me up every morning around 6:40am and I always wake up a little then, no matter how quietly he does it. It'll be nice to have that built in if he can remember to do it. We're going to have to establish a little routine.
31.gif
Wake up, roll over and stick thermometer in wife's mouth. Go about business as usual. Heehee. I'll let you know how it goes.

HH, thanks for the heads up! I'll get the Walgreens BBT! The first thermometer I got was the most expensive one they had and it SUCKS! Then I read the Consumer Reports review on digi thermometers and the best ones were the cheapies! Go figure! I love hearing about which ones work best!
