I'm lusting after this yummy ruby! It is 1.66 of unheated tanzanian gorgeousness. It even has papers (AIGS)!

Can you help feed my fantasies by posting ideas for the perfect mounting?

My first thought was LostSapphire''s blueberry mounting. Did you know Leon has a strawberry version??

Or, I''d love to have that kind of mounting made with oec stones. Like this one. Could anyone photoshop the ruby onto the ring?

For this I would want very high carat gold (22) and all hand wrought no other stones no melee no paving, something like this

but you do like those halos so how about something like this

How''s about something like this? Similar to what VL just posted.

yeah, I like dat too!

but with more carrots in the metal

This would be gorgeous, and you know how I love my James Meyer!! Imagine the ruby as the center stone with squarish omc diamonds as the accents.

For me I love Amyethst Ruby Ring. I tried to create my own version but mine doesn''t look nearly as good. I have 1.0ct diamond total on mine and she has 1.6ct i believe.
Her ring:

Oooh I love the Leon that Uppy posted!

LostSapphire's ring is one of my favorites! Its gorgeous and very classic. I love its pear sides leading into the shank as well.

ETA: I''m excited to see what you all come up with as the perfect ruby ring because my SO and I are considering a ruby for an engagement ring.

OMG! Look at that!

Sylvie, that is AMAZING!!!!!

Here''s another JM that would look pretty gorgeous with omc sidestones.

Stci, that looks gorgeous.

Well done Sylvie!

I cant download the pictures from Christie''s website of the upcoming Important Jewels sale (april 22) but there are some ruby rings there you should have a look at. Actually there is a lot that everyone should see. www.christies.com

Beautiful suggestions! Are you thinking pendant or ring dearest?

I''d forgotten all about this yellow gold pave setting until I came across it in my favorites folder. I think the ruby would look stunning in it!

I agree, due to the glowy appearance this ruby would IMO work better with melee stones than larger ones (larger in this case being anything above 2 mm). And since in this ring many diamonds are angled and are not sparkling directly when looking from above, it would be a wonderful, subtle design. But do what'll make you happy

Here''s Allisonfaye''s ruby ring. Its one of my favorites and one of the first ruby rings I fell in love with.

Yes it will look great in that setting.
And I don''t even like pave, except in streets!

I like this setting best too; it gives the stone a lot of presence without looking too dainty and the colour of that ruby won’t be overpowered by the halo.

Uppy,
Before you buy the ruby, please ask the vendor if it has fluor. I suspect it does based on that fact that iron tends to turn these stones brown, and I don't see any brown in that stone. Iron kills fluorescence in a gem.

I like the three stone idea.

Is iron good or bad? Is fluoro good or bad? I love the sleepy look of this stone. That and its unheated nature are what have drawn me to it.

There is a three stone ring from Tiffany that I really like; I don''t remember what it is called, but its a three stone diamond ring set similarly to Kismet''s LM demantoid ring. It has bridges which are paved, and then a small three leaf petal detail on each side. I think that if that ruby were more elongated it would look great in a three stone similar to Kismet''s.

In rubies and pink sapphires, iron is bad (makes the stone brown) and fluoro is good (makes it glow in sunlight!!).
