When did you have your first "upgrade"? Or when would you want to "upgrade"?

And I mean the ring NOT the husband!

can you add an "all of the above" button to the poll :)

anytime would be great for me!

I will never upgrade as I have my dream set. Add to my collection? ALWAYS!!!

I agree! I love my engagement ring and don't plan to ever change it. If I want something new or bigger, I will just have to add to the collection!

Speaking as a collector, I upgrade when I see something I like better than something I have.

What exactly do folks think of when they say "upgrade"? It seems like it can mean, change the stone to a bigger one or different shape, or quality, or sometimes it seems to mean change the setting. How about if you get another ring in addition to the E & W rings?

When I hear "upgrade" I think of changing the ring that you originally got when you got engaged or a new ring that you wear in its place. If you are wearing an additional ring in place of your engagement ring then that qualifies as an upgrade. For those who didn't get an engagement ring, an upgrade would mean wearing a new ring on your ring finger that others would reconize as being an engagement ring.

I would happily accept a new ring from my husband, but I would not trade in the original. Maybe I'd put the original center stone into a solitaire pendant.

I am surprised there was not a whenever and how ever often he will let you...I am not engaged so no voting for me, but I dont plan on upgrading.

Hmm unfortunately I can''t really answer two questions with just one poll.

I upgraded before the wedding.

And then after.

And will again next year.

And after that we''ll see.

I vote "any time we can actually afford it"

I''m done, hubby will be soooo happy to hear that, Lol!!!!

Cripes Id hope so...you have this gorgeous one and your beautiufl ASSCHER!

I love my ring. This was what I wanted... exactly what I wanted. It is very special to me... it was a ring that symbolized my commitment... OUR commitment. I can understand if someone had decided to upgrade before getting their ring if they could not afford the one they wanted when they first got together... but I wanted to make aure I had what I wanted... that way it would lasy forever... and ever and ever.

i upgraded 5 months after my proposal

we''ll see whats next!

I got married in 1980 & my original yellow gold set had a .33 carat sparkly "e" colorless diamond. As I put on a "few" pounds, the rings appeared very small on my finger! On my 25th wedding annivarsay I received a beautiful white gold, "comfort" rounded bands set with a 1.15 carat emerald cut solitaire (E, SI1). I love the new set, and had my old set sized to fit my right hand (it''s a contemporary design with 2 baguettes on either side of the .33 center stone). My sister''s 10-yr. anniversary is this November & her husband told me he is going to get her a 1.25 carat asscher or square emerald cut to replace the .25 carat center stone in her platinum band!! Yea for anniversaries & sweet husbands!!

This is a tough one... We worked so hard in finding our set. It''s a bit hard for me to think about upgrading it to anything else. But the question is... WHY upgrade? Why not just ADD more to the collection (if you can). Now, that would be my reference. For as long as I continue to look on Pricescope, I will always want something else, but it doesn''t mean i want to get rid of the one I put on on my wedding date. If I can''t afford a real rock... I''ll take a CZ rock any day so I can still satisfy my craving for a BLING.

Many good looking CZ rings on Pricescope... they made me drool as much as I did w/ the real rock.

I no longer own my REAL wedding ring ;)

I think that for now, and the next few years, the only up"grade" we will do is add pears. We need to make some money materialize for that.

I didn't add an "all of the above" or "whenever possible" option on purpose. I wanted to see if there was a certain anniversary that was most common for "upgrades."

Thank you for all of your replies.

Ame,

If you don''t mind me asking, what happened to your "REAL" wedding ring?

LOL- I agree- All of the above.

I have gone through a few stones but some only lasted a very short time so they don''t count?

Well, I''m "fortunate" enough to NOT have my dream cushion appear. When it does I''m in for a lot of begging.

I''m only going to do it one more time and it has to be perfect. It has to be a 2.3-2.5 cushion with just the right spread and it has to be F or higher Vs1 or Vs2 or totally clean Si1 or whatever. That''s not asking TOO much is it??

I am not sure. I think FI would not be pleased if I wanted to upgrade anytime soon. I love my ring so I would just be happy to get more diamond jewelry. Maybe for a big milestone I''ll upgrade. Only time will tell. I think I will always keep my oringinal diamond though ( maybe make it in a nice pendant

There wasn''t a "when I break it" option. SO I had to choose under 1 year of marriage...

I don''t plan to be breaking again..anytime soon

I won''t ever trade in my diamond, BUT, of course I''d take a bigger one!

If I ever decide to upgrade, my current stone will be made into a RHR.

I think it''s neat to do it on a meaningful occasion for the two of you...doesn''t have to be an anniversary, just something meaningful.

For example, when my parents married, my mom only had a thick, solid, gold band. Then, several years later (and before I was born), my mom had a late miscarriage (after 20wks gest.) While she was in surgery having a D&C, my dad snuck off with her wedding band and stuck a nice pear diamond on it!

Then, when I was 9, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. My dad bought her one eternity band when she started chemotherapy, and another when she finished it, to celebrate!

However, now my mom is convinced that they have jinxed themselves with this whole diamonds associated with making it through tough medical situations...2 Christmases ago, my dad bought her a RB pendant on a Thursday...That Saturday night, my mom started having a horrible stomachache, and ended up having an emergency appendectomy hours later!!! Go figure. :)
