The problem at hand has to do with children being taken from their parents. It looks as if the pressure has worked and this will no longer happen in the future. The 2500 or so missing children must be found and returned to the parents. I suspect no good records have been kept and this will be a tougher job because of the usual incompetence of this administration.

The admin will be going back to catch and release for illegals entrants. Asylum seekers will be held with their children at a detention center until the administrative judge rules on their petition. If you seek asylum on the east coast or other ports of entry I think that if you have a temp residence with relatives or friends you can stay with them until your hearing. I have always thought that asylum was for political reasons, but that appears to not be so. Whats the problem now that is any different than it was during other administrations. We have illegal entry at the rate of 30-40 thousand people a month. People want it stopped not because they are brown people. Mexicans are some of best workers and family people you could find. The lower states have a high Mexican population. My son just returned from Texas. He said its Mexican. People who are citizens of this country have a say in what they want. They do not have to feel guilty if they don't want a larger Mexican population, many of whom are here illegally. We always have some, including me, who aren't that welcoming of a newcomer. I saw women with the black face covered outfit in my shopping center. I did think , Oh no. Are they bad people. Of course not. I really hope I don't see too many more.

We have probably the best immigration program in the world. Saying No to some things is fine in my book. No more illegals if we can help it. In 1977, the laws were made stricter. I had to check all green cards, and make sure all were legal. That also went by the wayside.

My parents are immigrants. I grew up listening to my father's stories of how it took him three attempts to succeed in escaping from China to Hong Kong. For each time he failed, he was thrown in jail, and sadly he had more food there than his family had at home. When he finally succeeded in swimming to Hong Kong, one of his companions drowned along the way. My father couldn't even talk about that until recently, and it's been decades.

I'm not as informed on the topic as I should be, but I thought the majority of illegal immigrants crossing the Mexico/US border are now from Central American countries (rather than Mexico). Can you point to a link that shows the illegal (also known as "unauthorized") rate is 30-40 thousand a month? I did a quick search but can't back that one up.

Of course illegal immigration ideally shouldn't happen at all, but are we a country that just turns our back on people at grave risk? Does it matter if people don't want them because they are brown or don't want them because of some other wonderfully principled (or pragmatic) explanation? Refusing to help these people is immoral. I won't argue whether or not we should be a nation of unimpeachable morals but at least let's be honest with ourselves. Entry into this country is the only hope for a decent life that most of these people have. If we're going to say enough is enough, we just don't have the resources to help, go back to your country and die, then why not be up front and clear about it. Instead we've demonized these people: implying they are mostly rapists, murderers, gang members, drug dealers and now bad parents for taking children on an illegal trip across the border. I guess this "blame the victims" exercise helps us continue to believe our mythology - "give me your poor, tired, huddled masses."

I don't know what the solution is but I can't help notice the irony in your son proclaiming Texas is Mexican. We've only had Texas since 1845, before that it *was* Mexico. People don't have to feel guilty for their ethnocentric biases but that doesn't mean they have the right to decide where various ethnic groups should live. If they don't like living near Mexicans, they can move north. You wrote "they don't want a larger Mexican population, many of whom are here illegally." This implies that even those Mexican immigrants who are here legally are not welcome.

I can't figure out what you are trying to say about the woman with black face covered outfit. Do you mean she had a black face because she's black or do you mean she was dressed as full face covered muslim? Are you saying you did think she is a bad person? It's hard to tell because then you wrote "of course not" but then you also wrote you hope you don't see too many more.

An Oregon state employee is under investigation over comments she allegedly made about immigration, a state agency announced Wednesday. The comments— which referenced shooting immigrants at the border—were posted on Facebook, but it wasn't immediately clear when.

Oregon’s Transportation Department told KMTR-TV that the post was made by an employee’s account and they were trying to determine if the woman, Lori McAllen, was responsible for the post.

“We're aware of a post that has been rapidly circulating through social channels espousing views offensive & abhorrent to the values of our agency,” the Oregon Department of Transportation in a statement. “There is an active investigation into the matter. Thank you to those who have shared your concerns and we take this matter seriously.”

The post attributed to the employee said: “I personally think they should shoot them all at the border and call it good … it’ll save us hard working AMERICAN’S [sic] billions of dollars on our taxes!! ; )”
