For about 50 bucks I can get 9 paper lanterns. 3 in orange 3 in green 3 in white... all round but in different sizes to hang from the ceiling of the reception room like this....

What do you think? Yes, no? This is my actual reception room, so it's obviously possible to do it (I have NO IDEA how, but I can call my coordinator and ask if she knows how).... what do you think.
Should I do it? I'd want to put them right under the chandelier like you see here because I dislike the chandelier. John likes the idea, he dislikes the chandelier too.

Or do you think they're not really needed, or wouldn't work with the rest of my decor... or what?

http://shojidecor.com/cgi-local/catalog/catalog.pl?category=PAPER_LANTERNS-1#Even%20Ribbing%20Paper%20Lantern%20In%20Orange I'd get the orange in 16 inch, apple green in 12 inch and white in 20 inch, I'm thinking. Unless you guys have other suggestions.

Thoughts? Anyone know how to string these things up?

Are you going to have them lighted or just for decoration? My friends wedding tent had all round paper lanterns in your colors. It was pretty. I''m not sure how the using different ones would look I can''t visualize it.

If you go here:

Go to the photo gallery (not the slideshow) then click on photos like the first photo, second row on the left.... it shows all the round paper lanterns. I think there''s another photo that shows some different paper lanterns as well. These were lighted though. If you''re going to light them that may get a bit complicated.

I'm thinking just as decorations, not lighted I really love this pic. And the apple green tablecloths. I'm serously considering replacing the orange overlays with solid green table cloths. I'm just afraid they won't have enough punch and presence in that beige hell of a room.

That tent pic is lovely. Seriously, a checkerboard floor? So the photo of your space with the lanterns, that shouldn''t be too hard to do with fishing tackle. Perhaps think about how putting a shade in front of light (no matter how ugly the chandelier) is going to dim the light. The photo you have is of full on daylight. What is the space/light like later? You are getting married outside and then coming in for the food...shouldn''t be an issue, but something to consider. I love the lanterns, the shapes are bold and funky, but yeah, might be hard to hang in a unified way. The variated globes/orbs would be fantastic. Yeah, and not lighting them will cut way down on your effort. Can you ask your florist if he/she could hang them? Or a site coordinator? I guess that would be my big concern if I were in your shoes, would someone be able to hang them properly the day of?

I dont know of this helps at all but here are a few photos i could dig up of their orange and green wedding. Table runners were orange over brown tablecloths. A variety of flowers were short and ran up the middle of the tables. No big centerpieces but smaller ones with a variety of flowers. I think their flower budget was like 4k. It was subtle though... This is the same tent company that I linked in my previous post. This wedding was in napa. Orange can have enough punch to it and does seem to go with brown well. It depends on the shade you pick.

Hrm, I meant to blur out his face but I'm sure he won't know the difference. No biggie I guess.

I don''t know why, but that made me giggle.

Gypsy, those lanterns would look so great in that space!! I wish I could pull that off for our reception! We have the country club ballroom with chandeliers and candlebras galore.

Oh... I just found these and am in TOTAL love. They''re pricey... so I''d just intersperse them.

I''d intersperse them. So the round ones would be at different heights and I''d add these in.

I love these lanterns. I really do.

Love that website! Sigh. I really like lanterns, but they are really difficult.

Gypsy, did you look at the event pics on that Luna site pics there are some really inspirational pics in there. Thanks for getting us all excited about color!

We had two shades of green and white ones in a big cluster on the tent ceiling. I loved (and still love) the look. I sold them on ebay recently and can''t find a photo other than that one saved on my computer so don''t mind the little ebay symbol in the corner...and the misspelled file name!

They were beautiful, I loved them! We were on a very small budget but went for these last minute after seeing something similar in blue in MS Weddings. I never once regretted the money we shelled out to buy them and put them up. We thought one big cluster would make more of an impact than spread out.

Do it! Get the lanterns!

I LOVE the lantern look, Gypsy! I also love the parasol lanterns and stars, but they do seem awfully pricey to me when you can get a lovely effect with just the round lanterns...if you''re trying to save, those seem to be the most reasonable, but I think they would all look great! Let us know what you decide...
