I''m confused. If I wanted to look at a diamond from Dirt Cheap Diamonds, do I have to pay the full amount first, then have it shipped to me, have it appraised, decide, then send it back for the refund if I don''t want it? Or is there a certain percent I pay before having it sent to me and deciding? Do I pay at all? I looked at the FAQ''s and payment policies section of the website, but I couldn''t figure it out. I''m a little slow today

Hi IrishEyes,

I can''t confirm that DCD does this, but I believe it is standard practice for online vendors to send diamonds to an appraiser if the customer requests. You only have to pay if you decide to buy the stone, otherwise you just pay for shipping and the appraisal.

You can agree on a local appraiser, or go with www.consumergemlab.com

I would suggest you call Jim Schultz (president of DCD) and discussing the options with him. If you are really interested in the stone, I would think they would send it to an approved appraiser before you pay for it. However, this is expensive for companies to do, so they probably want to know you are serious and real before they agree to do it. Jim is a reaonsable guy, so give him a call and see what works for both of you.

Thank you all for the responses! Very useful information, I was thinking I would have to wire thousands of dollars before even seeing the stone! But now I know I won''t have to, and I''m pretty excited at seeing what I come up with!
