Hello ladies!
Im brand new to the forums and thought id introduce myself! Im 23, and live in Vancouver, BC Canada. I have been with the man of my dreams for a year and we have started talking about engagement.....already, i know it seems like 10 years even though its been only 1! I Never actually thought it would ever happen to me!lol.... I have helped friends plan numerous weddings, been a bridesmaid and MOH, but never thought it would be me!

So over the holidays we talked about engagement and marriage the earliest the engagement will happen is september(he wont be settled until then, and right now we only see each other on weekends). He told me he wants to look at rings and see exactly what i like so the excitement can die down (YEAH, RIGHT?LOL) and when he is ready, then the proposal will be a big suprise. (I love the style of the cartier ballerine ring, while i might get something similar made, we wont be buying from cartier or a tiffany''s)....my suggestion!

Next weekend we are going ring shopping....im very nervous, part of me wants to use my best poker face. He has given me a very broad budget but i dont want to break the bank...I know he wants to get me what i want, but at the same time i dont want to make it difficult for him. BUT...not telling him what i like defeats the whole purpose of the shopping trip!

Have any of you had this problem? Anyways just thought i should say hi! Thanks for such a great forum

Hi SmartBlondie, glad you came to PS! I have yet to go ring shopping with my BF, but I''ve done LOTS of looking online on my own and also shown a style or two to my BF. If I were you I''d definitely show my BF what I liked most but then also show him styles that are perhaps less expensive that you also love and would be very happy receiving

I know exactly how you feel. My boyfriend told me he doesn''t care about the price and he wants me to have what I want since I''ll be wearing it for the rest of my life, but his job situation isn''t very stable and I don''t want to get him into trouble. But he simply won''t give me a budget! What I''ve decided to do was to set myself a budget and be reasonable. I also have to say I''ve decided to give him the XBOX 360 console as his engagement present. I don''t think it''d be really fair if I was the only one of us getting an expensive present, and he''s been talking about buying it this year, so that way he can put the money on my ring, right?

We''ll be going shopping when I''ll go home for Spring Break in late February, and I''ve already found a setting I''m in love with. It''s a White Flash custom design, though, so I don''t think we could find something like it in a store! I don''t think it will be very expensive in two-tone gold instead of platinum, and I''m thinking around the lines of a .5ct center stone and .15ct sidestones. Going shopping will still be fun, and I might see something else that I''ll love!

Everyone here will tell you that you can get great deals by the Internet. Just ask questions and the people here will gladly help you out! I''m sure you''ll be able to find your dream ring and won''t "break the bank"!

I hope this helps a little, and welcome to PS!

Do you have pics of that setting you like? I''d like to see it!
