I saw a post where somebody asked about getting a Tiffany Bud ring replica made, but the thread was locked, I was going to ask if the person managed to find a jeweller that made it, and how it turned out in the end?

And a lot (and I mean a lot) less expensive. The Tiffany version is Schumacker I believe, their late designer who's still their most famous designer (by far).

Schlumberger. Not his best imho.

Yep, thanks for correcting my speling!

They have one of his pieces on their website now- a ladybug (apparently that's one of the animal motifs he liked a lot), platinum with four red garnets (I thought this was an interesting choice), gold antennae, on a gold chain. $1450. I thought it was a charming piece for a fair price.

Most of his pieces and most of their Statement Jewelry stuff is astronomical. I think the bud ring, just the setting is like 20-25k? I'm not saying it's not worth it (I don't know) but it's a great candidate for a reproduction.

I have to admit it upsets me to talk so casually about getting a reproduction of a piece that is commercially available. Using it as inspiration, showing a designer the elements you like, etc, sure! That is part of designing and ideas do circulate. Getting a copy made is no different from wearing knock-off Prada bags.

We you the word reproduction on PS everyday. The most famous engagement ring of all is the one Tiffany designed in the late 19th century. What are all of these Tiffany looking rings if not reproductions? As far as I am aware, there are legal standards defining how close to an original under legal protection something can be made and we assume reputable vendors are aware of it.
