I am planning on altering this necklace to remove the 6 oval moonstones around the main chain of the necklace. (I will keep the rest of the necklace intact.) Would you keep the dangling pear, or remove it from the center piece?

The figure 8 links are handmade (with the aid of a machine) and the center piece is handmade, with small bezeled diamonds.

I will do something with the stones I remove from this necklace (for another project :naughty: )

I think the pear gives it balance, otherwise without it, the pendant looks like one of those "evil eyes."

It's a very beautiful necklace, as is, but I understand you think it's a bit too extravagant in our last conversation about the piece. I think it looks like it belonged to a Renaissance princess.

Thanks, TL. I agree it's a stunning necklace. I just never wear it. It's a pity to have it sit, so off with it's head! (Trying to invoke the Renaissance princess in me.)

I would wear the pieces, separately. I am considering selling one actually, when this is taken apart because I don't need 2 moonstone necklaces.

Pear it. :)) It makes for a nice focal point without being overpowering.

i love it as is but understand you want it to feel more wearable. have you considered leaving the 2 moonstones closest to the center piece? maybe that would help you feel like the pear was more balanced out without the overall look being so intense?

Love the pear...but I also love the necklace just the way it is so grain of salt. Whatever you need to do to make it wearable and enjoyable for you. It's a beautiful necklace though. I love it.

I just found that one of the ovals is cracked. I will have to make this alteration anyway, or replace the oval, which I do not want to do.

I think you ladies are right. Keep the pear it is. I actually am wearing the necklace out for dinner tomorrow.

I'll see if Julia Kay Taylor has time to repair the necklace. Oh well.

EDIT: I just went to her website and it has not been updated since 2012. Sad. I love her work. I emailed her, but do not expect a reply.

+1 :)

And please take a picture while on your neck tomorrow night!

Oh no! The moonstone or the metalwork? I checked out her website recently and found it inactive. I hope someone has an updated way to contact JKT for you.

Thanks, Chrono. It is the stone.

I just emailed another vendor. So sad that one of the stones is cracked. I don't know why I even care as I was going to remove it anyway. I guess I really love stones.

I hope I can find someone to fix this.

This is my year of making jewelry out of my stones, and modifying pieces. No more gems for me this year ladies! I need to stick to this, or it will be another year of not wearing my unset stones.

How badly cracked is it? If its not noticeable, it might be okay. Sometimes having a bezel redone can be very costly, and make it look worse than the original. I personally wouldn't touch it.

Hopefully you find a good solution for the cracked moonstone. Sorry to hear this. I am glad you will keep the dangling pear! The necklace looks so balanced and elegant with the pear. It's a beautiful piece that will look great combined with a beautiful dress during a nice dinner. But I can totally envision it with a t-shirt and jeans as well. I hope you will wear it often.

How about modifying the pear drop and centre piece, so that you can wear it with or without the drop? :))

I personally like the look with the pear drop in place. However, it may not be suitable for tops with higher neckline.

A removable drop will make the necklace more versatile IMHO.

DK :))

Unfortunately, the crack is very obvious. I am going to take the ovals off anyway from the necklace.

Good idea DK168. The hoops between the centerpiece and pear are very small, so it may be difficult to make it removable. Also, the necklace is constructed with very fine but strong silverwork, and I think a removable bail may look clunky?

I have sent the necklace off to have the ovals around the chain removed. The pear will stay attached to the center piece. I'll update when I receive it back. Thanks for all your input.

Great! I like the pear too.
